Harry suing the home office

Does he realise where the money they would have to pay him if he was successful in suing, would come from?

The British public

Thanks Harry.

@Blossomtoes Do you honestly think that money makes everything better? Seriously? That it makes up for them being hounded and harassed. If money made everything better no rich people or celebs would be depressed or commit suicide. Saying 'well they had an expensive wedding' (like as if they had a choice) and expensive homes so they have no worries, is very shallow imo. Money can't buy happiness or mental health.

What do you think they’ve been “put through”? Seriously.

Migrainesbythedozen · 18/03/2022 19:23

@Blossomtoes If your question is genuine and you really haven't followed the abuse Meghan and Harry have copped for the last few years, then I don't know what to say....

HRTQueen · 18/03/2022 19:24

It’s not a job it’s his life he can’t just ever step away from the interest in him

He along with William have the highest profiles after the Queen and Prince Charles that will never change for him

I also read that on his last visit he was chased by paparazzi. Have we forgotten how his mother died

Peaseblossum22 · 18/03/2022 19:24

@Migrainesbythedozen

I say good on him! I hope he sues the whole damn lot of them, after what he and Meghan have been put through.
He's not suing 'them' though he's suing us. He is suing the Home Office. Actually he's gone for judicial review but if they were to rule that the security decisions need to be made by a new board it will be us that pay, the British taxpayer
JinglingHellsBells · 18/03/2022 19:26

@TooEarlyForMe home office

I thought you meant the shed at the bottom of the garden.

Then I realised you meant the Home Office

FloBot7 · 18/03/2022 19:26

I haven't read the full thread so this might have been mentioned before. If royal protection offers discovered a threat to his family I can't imagine for one second that they'd sit on it and let him go about his day. He's asking for 24/7 close protection which is a huge expense when there's no credible threat. I don't think it was unfair to withdraw close protection. Princess Anne is the only royal to have an actual near-miss and even she doesn't get 24/7 protection.

Migrainesbythedozen · 18/03/2022 19:27

@Peaseblossum22 Well then maybe if the government and taxpayers get sick of paying for this, it might prompt rules within the Home Office to change.

To me, whingeing about Harry suing the H.O and complaining it costs taxpayers is like someone suing the NHS for a valid reason but someone always pipes up 'but we taxpayers are paying for your win!'

Sometimes a stand needs to be made.

They’ve had a bit of hostile media coverage. So what?

justjuggling · 18/03/2022 19:40

Harry is the equivalent, or will be, of Anne, Edward & Andrew ( although the less said about him, the better!). They don’t currently get the level of protection he’s asking for so I don’t see how the ‘he’ll be the son of the monarch’ holds any sway.

He chose to step away from being a working royal and he has a new life in California. I’m assuming he made that decision based on what he thought would be a better life, and surely considered issues such as security when weighing up how his future would look?

Agreeing to what he’s demanding would open the floodgates for dozens of similar requests and feels wrong based on him being where he is because of decisions/choices he made.

It feels muddly - wanting to be a private citizen and live a private life but every five minutes he/Megan are on a stage somewhere, or promoting something or giving very public, high profile interviews. Sometimes you just can’t have everything you want and perhaps a quiet life, living on the huge inheritances from his mother and great grandmother, rather than trying to remain relevant and prominent as the duke & duchess of Sussex would have been the better option.

Blinkingbatshit · 18/03/2022 19:40

It’s very simple - he wants the protection then he goes to stay with family with whom he’ll automatically get it🤷🏼‍♀️. They claimed they wanted a quiet life away from the limelight…..why are they still desperately trying to stay in it?!

Peaseblossum22 · 18/03/2022 19:40

Why should they change to suit the whim of a spoilt Prince. He wants to be classified as a person of international importance which wuold mean that he would get constant protection by right regardless of risk anywhere in the world. Frankly he is being ridiculous.

UniversalAunt · 18/03/2022 19:41

‘… whose mother was killed on a route away from photographers.’

His mother was passenger in a car not wearing a seat belt in a car driven recklessly by someone who was under the influence of alcohol.

Sadly, road traffic accident injury & death happens all too often on our roads when there are neither papps or other vehicles in pursuit.

Diana died a premature & mundane death.

HRTQueen · 18/03/2022 19:42

A bit of hostile press Hmm

Underlying racism and allowing terribly racist remarks to stand in the most read online paper is not a bit of hostile press it’s uttelry disgraceful

And the the tv presenter who is absolutely obsessed with Megan allowed to rant on tv again and again

justjuggling · 18/03/2022 19:44

@Blinkingbatshit I totally agree! I wonder if this is all let of the need to be seen as still being part of the royal family, because let’s face it, without that, he and Megan have not much else to trade on.

UniversalAunt · 18/03/2022 19:44

Previous posters have covered the judicial review & this is where the detail lurks.

Harry really is scraping the barrel of his relevance to the Great British Public.

HRTQueen · 18/03/2022 19:45

Now we are playing down the paparazzi involvement in Diana’s death

How low shall we go …

Peaseblossum22 · 18/03/2022 19:45

Also his mother was offered protection and she turned it down because she believed that it would compromise her privacy. She was also not in the UK but in France. It doesn't change the fact that it was awful but it had nothing to do with the protection that Harry is asking for.

There is a shortage of Police Officers in the UK. It's not right that that they can be 'purchased' by the wealthy, which would ultimately reduce the amount of officers looking after us.....so I agee that his request for 'police protection' was refused (even if he wanted to pay for it.) But what is happening now is that he's pissed off that he can't have his own way...and he's going to sue the home office. Either way the UK lose! We lose police numbers, or we lose tax payers cash! The winners are his legal team, who het a healthy cut of the money....money I worked my arse off to pay!

I am sick to death of this shite! I've rolled my eyes previously at all the 'drama' that the royal family gets itself involved in....but I must say, for the first time I openly want to scream! How dare they sue a government department because they were simply told 'no.' But its likely that the damage is already done....the legal wheels are in motion....
And you know what? They might even win...so they get our police officers, and they can pay for them using the compensation from the legal battle! The only people that lose is the UK tax payer!

This guy is not winning any popularity contests in this house! And I am getting far too your company sweary, so I'm going to leave it there!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/03/2022 19:55

Not sure why this has cropped up again, but I didn't understand it last time and I'm no clearer now ... because the security services have said he'll get security if deemed necessary and that it'll be decided on a case by case basis

So if he's not expected to carry on unprotected in the face of any known threat, what's his problem exactly?

Migrainesbythedozen · 18/03/2022 19:55

Absolutely! I had to shake my head at the absolute ignorance of that poster. Even if you don't like Harry and Meghan, writing it off as mere 'a bit' of hostile press is racist, ignorant and completely tone-deaf.
Migrainesbythedozen · 18/03/2022 19:56

@Blossomtoes Saying they've had 'a bit' of hostile media and "so what?" is incredibly ignorant, regardless of whether you yourself are ignorant or not.

coodawoodashooda · 18/03/2022 19:58

@DrManhattan

Yeah, he just needs to go away now.
Totally agree.
