a bunch of adult men acting like little kids turns my stomach. More worrying is my DH watches the pile of crap.

perhaps it is the mans version of that bloody awful daytime thing where women sit around talking, loose women? Loose, id have to be the loosest end ever to subject myself to that shite!! Love top gear though.

moljam · 06/01/2008 12:29

dd and ds1 just watched childrens programme were little boy designed a car/rocket and the stig was the test driver they thought it was fab as they love top gear!

charliecat · 06/01/2008 12:33

I love Top Gear so do my dds. Bizarrely its the only thing they will sit and watch other than the Simpsons.

pointydog · 06/01/2008 12:46

Just read op. YANBU. I don't like it. It's very 'little excited kid' as you say, Shaneice. And orgasmic about speeds that only signify danger and death to me.

chenin · 06/01/2008 13:55

What's wrong with 'little excited kid?'... surely there is nothing better..

and if we stop programmes like this cos fast speeds signify danger and death, we also need to get rid of soaps (drinking/pubs = alcoholism), reality programmes like Big Brother (agression and swearing).

Television is gonna become so sanitised if we are not careful... I don't want to look back in a few years time and think 'remember what fun Top Gear was, shame there isn't anything remotely like that on telly now - a bunch of overgrown schoolboys having fun with fast cars'.

And it cuts across all of society... young and old, male and female like it...

beautifuldays · 06/01/2008 13:57

i love top gear it is the best programme on television at the moment.

i love it for it's silliness, hunour, wit and especially for its un-pc-ness. can't beat it.

motherinferior · 06/01/2008 14:06

Mr Inferior, being a good environmentalist and all...is addicted.

I have to admit I like it very slightly, despite myself, in a kind of hating myself in the morning way. Despite the fact I absolutely loathe cars and their effects.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 06/01/2008 18:18

Clarkson says a lot of stuff for effect and for a wind up.

Though funnily enough I was taling to a professor who lectures on Polar Environments who agrees with Clarkson that Global Warming due to pollution is rubbish.

I love the programme.

And you've got to remember that Hammond nearly died because of a tyre blow out not because of speed or stupidity. I've been in a car that had a tyre blow out on a busy road and luckily didn't hit anything as we ended up in the ditch on the opposite side of the road. You have more chance of dieing on a normal road than a race track.

DoubleBluff · 06/01/2008 18:26

It is one of the few progs that we all watch as a family and really enjoy.
I like it because it is so un-PC and refreshing.
Clarkson talks so much sense, he should be PM!

Shaniece · 06/01/2008 18:34

Clarkson as PM - oh god forbid - i will be emigrating .

MrsJohnCusack · 06/01/2008 18:58

Love it, and really miss it here in NZ

And I fancy Clarkson, FWIW

micegg · 06/01/2008 19:15

YANBU as we all have our likes/dislikes. Personally I love it! Really hate soaps and reality TV though.

Tutter · 06/01/2008 19:18

haven't read thread but am guessing it can be summed up as:

  • yes there are plenty of reasons why one would hate top gear
  • irrespective of the above, loads of love it. because we like to indulge in the inane/daft/flippant from time to time
Tutter · 06/01/2008 19:19

(maybe could rather than would)

helenhismadwife · 06/01/2008 20:29

YAB totally U especially tonight as James Blunt is on

PippiCalzelunghe · 06/01/2008 20:36

YANBU. I don't mind the programme itself. In fact I quite liked it at first. What I hate is DH becoming completely unavailable for that hour - the house could burn down and he would not move an inch!

meglet · 06/01/2008 20:38

I love Top Gear and I'm a bit of a eco-chick. It is very silly, but lots of fun. Unfortunately I now think my life is not complete without a Bugatti Veyron.

But YANBU, I can understand why it drives some people up the wall.

pointydog · 06/01/2008 20:42

I think the thread shows that people all ahve different ideas about what is daft, flippant and amusing.

I am not anti-humour. I spend three quarters of my life (at least) finding things humorous. Top Gear just isn't one of them.

KatieScarlett2833 · 13/01/2008 19:20

I secretly fancy James May, am I weird?

23balloons · 13/01/2008 20:23

YANBU Dh loves it and watches all of the time I hate it & I cannot stand Clarkson.

CatIsSleepy · 13/01/2008 20:30
