a bunch of adult men acting like little kids turns my stomach. More worrying is my DH watches the pile of crap.

OP posts:

YANBU. Clarkson is an insufferable tit.

imo

Easywriter · 05/01/2008 22:22

pinkmook - you won't be disappointed. Part of my enjoyment was that it really looked like they were going to get their silly butts tonked by some red necks.

I don't usually condone violence but this is Clarkson we're talking about!

WinkyWinkola · 05/01/2008 22:22

I quite like Top Gear. It's a bit pathetic how scripted it is when they're all sitting about discussing this car, that car.

Jeremy Clarkson is repellant though as are his views on various issues. He also looks like he would have really smelly breath.

MamaD · 05/01/2008 22:23

Love it love it love it. Clarkson for Prime Minister I say!!

pinkmook · 05/01/2008 22:23

yurt1 · 05/01/2008 22:31

pinkmook · 05/01/2008 22:32

"man love rules" cringes at the pubescent humour..

pinkmook · 05/01/2008 22:35

ROFL at lady petrol station owner!

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/01/2008 22:59

the American one is really funny and I also like the flat bed truck one from ages ago (where they destroyed a flat bed truck) Ds likes the caravan one.

mumeeee · 05/01/2008 23:05

YANBU.

catsmother · 05/01/2008 23:24

I love it (which of course has nothing to do with my "weird" crush on James May) and would always have it in my top 10 of things to watch. (Thank god for all the repeats on "Dave"). Very un-PC I know, obviously set up most of the time, but sniggeringly funny, very clever, and I think it's high time they had a female presenter (i.e. me, early 40s (but scrubs up well), reasonably articulate, scathing sense of humour, desire to behave like a kid again and drive lovely cars very fast (only on private roads of course) plus the requisite "funny" hair - perfect).

But you are NOT being unreasonable to dislike it. The fewer females exposed to James May's charms the better so far as I am concerned ..........

Beauregard · 05/01/2008 23:29

I love it,it is entertaining (unlike most tv)and actually very funny.

I LOVE it, i have always loved it and always will love it.

Top Gear is the highlight of my weeks. Its funny, incredibly witty and the bickering that goes on between them all is genuine and hilarious.

If they ever take it off the air i shall be heartbroken!

chocolatedot · 06/01/2008 11:45

Well whatever you think of it, You can't moan about licence payers money being spent on it. Financially, it's one of the Beeb's most seccessful shows with around 350m viewers globally.

Personally I'm amazed that anyone takes it seriously , it's obviously tongue in cheek.

milou2 · 06/01/2008 11:58

We all sit round the tv at 8pm on Sunday nights.

I love the camera work, they are geniuses to make tunnels beautiful, not to mention flat race tracks on overcast days...

The programme will probably end in tears though and we'll probably feel remorseful for having encouraged them. Maybe it should end before there is a death, please. Anyone else feel this?

jezzemx · 06/01/2008 12:09

We love it and all sit down to watch it when it's on.
My DD (8) loves the programme and often watches all the old series and repeats on the Dave channel she thinks alot of the content is hilarious. The scary hing is she can often tell what make and model a car is from 20 paces!!!!! (I wonder if she will be a mechanic when she gets older)
Then again she loves strictly and has asked to go to ballroom dancing classes so it could be a toss up between blue overalls and big net/satin dresss.

Hulababy · 06/01/2008 12:19

I am not particularly into cars but I enjoy Top Gear these days. DH watches it too, and 5yo DD likes the challenges bit as well.

I actually quite like the fact that they don't care what people think, and they just get on with doing what they like doing. I think they are funny most of the time. Yes, the odd bit might be a bit borderline, but they do it on purpose - to see if they get a rise I reckon.

As for "putting his family through it" type stuff - well you could say that about any person who takes on a potential dangerous job couldn't you?

lizziemun · 06/01/2008 12:22

YABU.

I would rather watch a "bunch of overgrown school boys's" doing and talking about something they like then be forced to watch a bunch of cardboard actors in the hours cr*ppy soaps.

But each to their own .

lucyellensmum · 06/01/2008 12:27

YABU!!!!! I love it, i can't drive BUT i am a total petrol head and im sure that it is all jeremy clarksons fault. I do think he is a bit of a twonk though, but a lovable twonk nevertheless.

I am also developing an unhealthy fascination for Richard Hammond.

edam · 06/01/2008 12:27

I'm another non-driver who loves Top Gear. One of the few programmes dh and I both enjoy. And we are so not into cars - have never owned anything less than 10 years old.

It's the funniest show on TV - the writing is fab. Think it's the relationship between the three of them that is the key. They are overgrown schoolboys but they know it and that's what so funny - they are happy to laugh at themselves.

Clarkson is not sexist - one of the very, very, very small group of men who has been criticised for sexism in the distant past and actually changed his ways, dropping all the comparisons between cars and women. I wish more men would follow his example.
