To ask how to dispose of sex toys?

Bananananaa · 16/03/2022 19:33

NC for obvious reasons.

I have some old toys I've been holding on to ages because I don't know how to get rid of them.

At the moment I'm living with some family members so am very reluctant to put it in household waste even if it's directly in the bin outside.

One of the toys has a plug as well so I'm not even supposed to dispose of that in household waste. When I Google it says to take it to a local recycling centre...really??

How do you get rid of toys? Especially those with plugs?

Daily mail is garbage on earth (incase there's any of them lurking here looking for things to repost on their tragic site)

I’m a cleaner, I’ve seen sex toys, I’ve seen dirty sanitary towels that have sat in the bin for two weeks and smell to high heaven none of this bothers me but what does bother me is a massive Unflushed jobby! Can’t deal with them at all, make me heave!

Dinoteeth · 16/03/2022 21:18

Realistically how much of electrical items is recycled?

I had one of those kids electric ride ons the guy at the tip took the battery out it and said put it in general waste.

So really I'd remove the batteries and maybe cut the cable of the powered thing and stick the rest in the wheelie bin inside a couple of bags.

Take it, the plug ones are the wands ? Or is it the Sybian one ?

@Mosaic123

Put in a couple of carrier bags and place in a public bin when you are out?
This.

You are seriously overthinking

LampLighter414 · 16/03/2022 21:52

Dump then in a bush in a woods for some teens to find and giggle at like the porn stashes back in the day

Tiddlesthecat · 16/03/2022 22:08

You just set your alarm for 5am and creep out and place them in someone else's curbside recycling bin. There's bound to be someone annoying who lives close by?

Tiddlesthecat · 16/03/2022 22:09

Alternatively, have you asked if your local charity shop takes them? 😉

DixonD · 16/03/2022 22:32

Damn it…wrong thread…sorry🤷🏻‍♀️

Not far off though!

TheRealityCheque · 16/03/2022 22:40

I've listed mine on facebay. Some went for more than unpaid new!

ShoutyAnge · 16/03/2022 22:41

Can't you recycle them internally?

TheRealityCheque · 16/03/2022 22:42

Do NOT cut the cables off things. Where on earth has this terrible advice originated from?

If you do, then the part with the plug on is fatally dangerous if someone (a kid, maybe) finds it and plugs it in.

antwacky · 16/03/2022 22:49

Take a look at this site, I've found it very useful.

Notanotherwindow · 16/03/2022 22:49

Do you get it back out of the skip when your alone at work? 🤷🏻‍♀️

With how dead quiet it is lately, I'd seriously consider it. 😂

It's ideal for getting rid of stuff I don't want seen though. It all goes in together so no separation of recyclables to consider and I have sole access to it one day a week. Failing that, I'd stick it in a pringles tube and hide it as far down the bin as possible.

DuvetHugger · 16/03/2022 22:52

Whatever you do, don't take them to the tip. I put mine in a black bag with other rubbish and took to the tip, where I was politely asked to open the bag to be checked.

My local council are bastards for checking your recycling and black bags. I don't know who was more embarrassed

I meant cut the cable off so the cable could go in the electrical bin at the recycle centre. While the other bits went to landfill. Not leave it lying around for kids to play with

Using that, it turns out I was right - Curry's do take WEEE, including electronic toys.

I really don't think there is anything to be embarrassed about these days, they sell this stuff in Tesco now!

cravingmilkshake · 17/03/2022 00:07

Ann summers use to take them for recycle. Might be worth it!

Bohemianwannabe · 17/03/2022 00:15

Fgs wrap up em up on a carrier bag cut the plugs off (never heard of sex toy with plug sounds more like torture instrument but whatever) and go and dump them in a public bin somewhere noone will ever know (as long as there's no cctv)

StarlightLady · 17/03/2022 06:26

Firstly, every woman should own at least one, they have significant stress release benefits and it’s all about you. 💓

Secondly, they allegedly outsell washing machines; they are nothing to be embarrassed about. Sisters really should be doing it for themselves.

Thirdly, the mains rechargeable ones are not unusual and usually have more oomph! But it’s different strokes (literally in this case) for different folks.

Finally, some shops have recycling bins for small electrical (Google it for local to you) if you cant get to a tip. Just take them out of a bag and pop them in. You don’t have to do a lap of honour and go on a parade first.

And importantl, make sure you have replacements!

Do the responsible thing and take them to a recycling centre. Nobody will give a shit what it is.

MindfulMarch · 16/03/2022 19:42

Just cut the plug off! Put them in a couple of carrier bags & then in the rubbish bag in the outside bin - surely your family isn't going to go through your rubbish?!?!?!

This. Why so much drama?!

KissedintheDark · 29/04/2022 10:23

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 16/03/2022 19:44

@StScholastica

Put them in a bag in the attic and forget about them so that when you move himself the new occupants have to deal with them Angry Yes I'm looking at you previous occupants.
Or, as someone did last year near me, bag them up and leave them on the doorstep of your local church.
