Not to want to take DM out when she is refusing to wear dentures?

AIBU? DM is refusing to wear dentures because she says they feel odd so she now has a permanent gap in the front.

I think it looks so horrible!!

I used to take her out to nice restaurants etc quite a bit but no longer want to do so because I find it horrible to look at her while eating and she seems a bit underdressed without teeth!

I’ve had lots of supportive conversations with her about options, but she says she prefers to leave it.

Honestly I find it quite repellent. I try not to do so but I can’t help it!

AIBU not to take her out to nice restaurants anymore?

YABU. Your poor Mum.

Baaaa · 16/03/2022 12:28

You are so shallow

MsMiaWallace · 16/03/2022 12:29

Wow! It's your mum!

I work with a guy. He's only in his 40s.
No teeth at all. Won't wear dentures. It's not a problem you get used to it.

So your relationship with your mother is directly related to how she looks.

YABU. And very shallow

WTF is wrong with you? What are you going to do next, tell her what to wear, what to say?

RockinHorseShit · 16/03/2022 12:30

Christ you are shallow, your poor mum Sad

Ofc YABU, but bloody hell, you actually had to ask Confused

superram · 16/03/2022 12:30

My mum can’t feed herself very well anymore, people stare in restaurants. Fuck them!! We still go.

Houseofmirth66 · 16/03/2022 12:30

Underdressed without teeth Everyone will say you’re awful but I don’t blame you. No teeth no dinner. Seems reasonable.

ilovesooty · 16/03/2022 12:31

I can't believe someone feels like this, let alone posts it on a public forum. Your poor mum.

I’ve read some of your other posts on other threads and this is either a reverse or you seem to have a terrible relationship with your direct family

Iputthetrampintrampoline · 16/03/2022 12:32

Really sorry OP but of all the people I know who have dentures there is not one seriously not one who is happy and comfortable with them. They are a nightmare for most people.I hazard a guess she is not being awkward but indeed highly uncomfortable with them. They take such a long time to get used to and they can be painful. Are you really saying you are embarrassed really? Would you love her and be proud of her any less due to this? If you do its such a shame.

Are you serious?
Picklerickflag · 16/03/2022 12:32

Waiting for the people posting to tell you to be grateful you still have a mum.

My mum uses dentures and she takes them out to eat and has them sitting on the table. That's gross.

MrsWOLF1 · 16/03/2022 12:34

This has to be a joke ...your poor mum .When my dear mum was still alive she had no teeth , riddled with cancer and tbh skeletal I wish she was still alive so I could take her out .You need to take a look at yourself and count your blessings , take her out to dinner

Mamamia7962 · 16/03/2022 12:35

You're making this about you OP, and how embarrassed you are by it, but if your mum feels fine about this then who cares what other people think.

What if your mum lost all of her hair, would you not want to be seen in public with her then?

It does sound very shallow.

springforce · 16/03/2022 12:35

Your poor mum. Why not try and emphasise with her.

ThoseTallTrees · 16/03/2022 12:37

Ok I’m hearing you.

The irony is my DH used to feel this way about his mum and I used to think he was really mean. But now it’s my mum I feel exactly the same way. It’s really visceral.

Nasty.

Sally872 · 16/03/2022 12:38

Yes, I would still hang around with my mum as normal no matter how she looked. Can't believe you have to ask.
