For the past two weeks I’ve had a persistent headache which is absolutely relentless. It’s an excruciating sharp shooting pain in one side of my head which just will not go with OTC painkillers and it’s been present non stop all this time. Contacted my GP last week who thought it could be a migraine (no other migraine symptoms, not made better by darkness etc) but the maximum dose of migraine medication doesn’t touch it either. Noticed the pain is getting more intense over time and tried my GP again, who can’t fit me in for another appointment for another week. I’ve barely had headaches before and certainly not a persistent one for this length of time and I’m seriously concerned about the fact it’s getting worse rather than better and is impacting me both mentally and with my work (I’ve barely been able to work since this came on 2 weeks ago).

Spoke to DP this morning as I’m at my wits end and considering contacting 111 for some urgent help/investigation. DP says it’s clearly a migraine and I shouldn’t waste time contacting an emergency number and should wait out my GP appointment. Would appreciate your thoughts, I don’t want to waste anyones time but I really am at my wits end with this pain Sad, surely this isn’t normal?

Sorry ,see DP not DH .But sentiment the same .

bringincrazyback · 06/04/2022 09:40

Hope you're OK, OP.

OMG12 · 06/04/2022 09:41

It sounds like sinusitis but it definitely needs checking out. You are not wasting a doctors time with such ongoing unexplained pain

MayMorris · 06/04/2022 09:49

Why would a migraine last for more than a few days at most? I’ve had migraines all my life, visual disturbance plus headache and nausea- done and dusted in around 7-8 hours though admittedly my are mild compared with some peoples. But I’ve never met anyone whose migraines last more than a few days.
So, either ask for urgent GP or call 111 - you shouldn’t have headache for 2 weeks and need to get to why..it is most likely something benign like some of suggestions here , but you need to know that anyway to get the right treatment,
Especially if it’s impacting your ability to work
Your DH lacks empathy- but you probably know that anyway. Ignore him. And remember to remind him on his lack of empathy when he is I’ll next time.

Juniper68 · 06/04/2022 09:54

Hope you're ok OP.

BellePeppa · 06/04/2022 10:03

I’ve been plagued by migraines for 30 years but they always last no more than 2-3 days and are heavy, fuzzy pains rather than sharp pains. Can’t believe how dismissive your partner is over your health😕

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 06/04/2022 10:05

I hope you have called 111

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 06/04/2022 10:05

Its certainly not wasting there time. I would have been at A&E by day 5 if i was not prone to migraines etc

Cap89 · 06/04/2022 10:10

This was my main symptom of Covid. I could have written this OP. One side of head, piercing pain, painkillers didn’t touch it. It was excruciating. Mine was sinus related I think, the pain made my teeth and ear hurt too. It went away after a couple of weeks. But I’d definitely seek medical help if it lasted longer. The only other time I had something like this before it was sinusitis and needed antibiotics to clear it up.

BlueOverYellow · 06/04/2022 10:21

I hope OP is ok....

mickeypillow · 06/04/2022 10:41

@SoTiredNeedHoliday

I hope you have called 111
She did. 3 weeks ago. This is a long running thread.
GroovyGroovy · 06/04/2022 10:53

Thread nearly three weeks old now and no further update from OP. What happened ?

GroovyGroovy · 06/04/2022 10:54

OP did seek more medical advice 3 weeks ago but did not update as to result.

Phobiaphobic · 06/04/2022 10:57

That doesn't sound like a migraine. You definitely need to get that properly checked out asap.

flower277 · 06/04/2022 11:02

Hope OP is ok - @Tulipelle??

CannibalQueen · 06/04/2022 11:06

Could be anything from a trapped nerve or muscle issue in your neck to something more serious, like a tumour. (Which is probably what you're thinking, eh?) It needs checking out.

marqueses · 06/04/2022 11:24

Has read the OP's posts stopped working? Why is everyone posting as if she hasn't already been to A & E Confused

Icouldabeenalawyer · 06/04/2022 12:13

@SteakExpectations

I’ve been thinking about this thread ever since OP went to A&E and check back occasionally to see if there’s an update. I really hope she’s okay.
Me too 😕

@marqueses

Has read the OP's posts stopped working? Why is everyone posting as if she hasn't already been to A & E Confused
Because they’re too important to read the thread, or even just the OP’s posts before jumping in with their opinion Grin
Tdcp · 06/04/2022 16:44

I really hope you're OK op, I can see I'm not the only one that's been thinking of you Flowers

SpringsSprung · 07/04/2022 09:40

@Tulipelle Hi OP, how are things going? Are you ok? Thanks

me4real · 07/04/2022 17:55
