DH says I’m wasting NHS time. AIBU?

For the past two weeks I’ve had a persistent headache which is absolutely relentless. It’s an excruciating sharp shooting pain in one side of my head which just will not go with OTC painkillers and it’s been present non stop all this time. Contacted my GP last week who thought it could be a migraine (no other migraine symptoms, not made better by darkness etc) but the maximum dose of migraine medication doesn’t touch it either. Noticed the pain is getting more intense over time and tried my GP again, who can’t fit me in for another appointment for another week. I’ve barely had headaches before and certainly not a persistent one for this length of time and I’m seriously concerned about the fact it’s getting worse rather than better and is impacting me both mentally and with my work (I’ve barely been able to work since this came on 2 weeks ago).

Spoke to DP this morning as I’m at my wits end and considering contacting 111 for some urgent help/investigation. DP says it’s clearly a migraine and I shouldn’t waste time contacting an emergency number and should wait out my GP appointment. Would appreciate your thoughts, I don’t want to waste anyones time but I really am at my wits end with this pain Sad, surely this isn’t normal?

@Juniper68

I care & have checked in to see if the OP is okay

I absolutely agree with @EarringsandLipstick though that it's poor form to harass a poster in hospital to reply. They do not owe us anything & unfortunately I think some posters feel entitled to an update when we are not & it can get a bit full on on here for that at times & just comes across as bloody nosey & treating someone's real life as a soap opera for entertainment

Try some different OTC medication, some of it has a headache as a side effect to you take the pill for a headache that gets worse, so you take more and it gets worse again.

Both aspirin and ibuprofen can cause headaches.

Oh and drink lots of water.

OP has gone to A&E...
girlmom21 · 15/03/2022 13:35

@EarringsandLipstick

They are just asking how she is, and showing concern.

Over & over again? While the poster is in a&e with a significant issue?

Well she might not be in A&E anymore... if you don't want to see people asking how she is unwatch the thread
WellThisIsShit · 15/03/2022 14:24

I hope everything went well at a&e and you have gotten some relief, whatever the cause x

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 15/03/2022 14:35

I've been thinking of you. I hope all is ok.

Glad that shit was deleted but the quotes aren't! OP doesn't need to see that if they come back.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 15/03/2022 16:14

Yes, I've reported my post as well Blush

Sapphireskies · 15/03/2022 16:46

Just glad OP has gone to A and E. absolutely disgusted with that poster whose message has now been deleted, what a horrible thing to say.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/03/2022 16:49

@Juniper68

EarringsandLipstick because believe it or not some people actually care about others.
🙄 it's not 'caring' about someone to repeatedly post asking for an update. On an Internet forum.

Seriously.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/03/2022 16:50

Comments like this are so facile.

I posted my opinion on a thread, the exact purpose of the forum.

You don't have to agree.

Doesn't mean that I'm not entitled to express that view and should unwatch the thread.

You don't have to express it repeatedly and you can accept that others disagree too 🤷‍♀️

I get migraines. You would t normally have a migraine for two weeks. Are you taking pain meds every day. If you are then you could be having medication overuse headaches. It’s very easy to get into that cycle, and not easy to get out of it.

I would press your gp for some investigation. I know in my area though they won’t refer you to a neurologist until you’ve tried at least four preventative meds. Hope you can get sorted. Nothing worse than head pain 💐💐

Benjispruce5 · 15/03/2022 18:01

I think if posters are able to report back it can be useful for others going through similar issues. These threads hang about for years and I’ve often searched things up to get real life experiences. I’m sure if OP is able and willing she will eventually update.

someone pls explain this very british behaviour of "wasting a doctor's/Nhs time" bollocks.

They are being paid to look after people who have not gone to medical school and got their diplomas in medicine. They are being paid (by us btw) to help out and answer our questions.
It is not a waste of time if you feel ill to go to the doctor. This is what they are there for.
All this crap about not wasting the doctor's time is bullshit. They are not some holy gods who us mere mortals can only rarely see and only in case our head has been half cut off. They are professionals doing their jobs. And we are their jobs. So if you are feeling meh, or have a concern: GO!
Nobody ever thinks twice about wasting a plumber's time when a tap is dripping. Because we pay them upfront. we see money moving, have an exchange. Having this in the background, through our taxes doesn't change this. And they are trained for this. Usually we are not.

And yes, there should be a balance, but of common sense and not this false sense of not being worthy enough for their time.

Where did I not accept it? 😂 I explicitly said 'you don't have to agree' 🤷🏻‍♀️
