For the past two weeks I’ve had a persistent headache which is absolutely relentless. It’s an excruciating sharp shooting pain in one side of my head which just will not go with OTC painkillers and it’s been present non stop all this time. Contacted my GP last week who thought it could be a migraine (no other migraine symptoms, not made better by darkness etc) but the maximum dose of migraine medication doesn’t touch it either. Noticed the pain is getting more intense over time and tried my GP again, who can’t fit me in for another appointment for another week. I’ve barely had headaches before and certainly not a persistent one for this length of time and I’m seriously concerned about the fact it’s getting worse rather than better and is impacting me both mentally and with my work (I’ve barely been able to work since this came on 2 weeks ago).

Spoke to DP this morning as I’m at my wits end and considering contacting 111 for some urgent help/investigation. DP says it’s clearly a migraine and I shouldn’t waste time contacting an emergency number and should wait out my GP appointment. Would appreciate your thoughts, I don’t want to waste anyones time but I really am at my wits end with this pain Sad, surely this isn’t normal?

Thinking of you OP, I hope you were seen quickly and all is well x

Zonder · 14/03/2022 23:15

Hope you are ok.

Comeoverfordrinks · 14/03/2022 23:21

Hope all is ok 💐

whyayepetal · 14/03/2022 23:26

Please get it checked OP - you’ve done the OTC painkillers and given it a bit of time, but nothing is resolved yet. Now you need a bit of help. Perfectly reasonable!

doitbelieveit · 14/03/2022 23:27

How are you OP? Thanks

whyayepetal · 14/03/2022 23:29

Oops - didn’t read the full thread did I ?! Still, glad you’re getting it checked out OP

zhivagodr · 14/03/2022 23:36

Keep us updated OP

Mandatorymongoose · 14/03/2022 23:47

Glad you are getting checked out OP.

Good rule of thumb for medical attention for headache is if it is the first or worst you've ever had and it certainly sounds like this meets that criteria. (Even if it wasn't first or worst it's persistent and that alone is worth a check over)

Hope it all goes OK and you are in less pain.

definitely correct to go to a&e after that long if not usually prone to headaches. hope they get to bottom of it.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 15/03/2022 06:52

Hope your well OP.

I’d seriously be having words with my “d”h if he treated me in this manner.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/03/2022 07:19

Can you give us an update when you can?

What is up with all these posts asking for an update / how OP is?

She went to A&E, she's under no obligation to update a forum on the internet, regardless how well-meaning posters are. 🤨

SheAndHerAreWomen · 15/03/2022 07:46

@EarringsandLipstick because she asked for advice. We gave it and now we just want to check she's ok. Quite reasonable I think Hmm

They are just asking how she is, and showing concern.
Indoctro · 15/03/2022 07:49

Very similar thing just happened to my family member, turns out he was a bleed on brain and he was airlifted to a larger hospital and still there now. Absolutely get this checked out.

EricScrantona · 15/03/2022 07:53

Your DP sounds like mine. What a hero 😂

How did it go at a&e?

sausagesandchamp · 15/03/2022 08:07

How are you today OP?
I had a horrific headache over one weekend and went to a&e. I did have an anomaly on a scan- it's definitely worth checking out properly from my experience.

NinaDefoe · 15/03/2022 08:14

@Blueeyedgirl21

I’d go to walk in/urgent care
I honestly wouldn’t bother. You will be referred back to your doctor or told to go to A&E. They deal with minor injuries or problems and send everyone with more than a graze to A&E where I am. I seriously doubt they will help with your persistent migraine issue.
NinaDefoe · 15/03/2022 08:16

‘Read the thread!’ Ok! 🤣

NinaDefoe · 15/03/2022 08:18

Just on a side note, 111 are linked with the walk in centre practitioners here. So, when you phone 111 you speak to someone at the walk in centre. Who then tell you to go to A&E.

It really isn't!

If OP comes back that's fine, but posters asking for an update is totally unreasonable.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/03/2022 08:41

They are just asking how she is, and showing concern.

Over & over again? While the poster is in a&e with a significant issue?

EveryCloudIsGrey · 15/03/2022 09:23

Hope it went well OP.

Juniper68 · 15/03/2022 11:09

EarringsandLipstick because believe it or not some people actually care about others.

AryaStarkWolf · 15/03/2022 11:49

Hope you're OK OP and everything went alright at A & E
