For the past two weeks I’ve had a persistent headache which is absolutely relentless. It’s an excruciating sharp shooting pain in one side of my head which just will not go with OTC painkillers and it’s been present non stop all this time. Contacted my GP last week who thought it could be a migraine (no other migraine symptoms, not made better by darkness etc) but the maximum dose of migraine medication doesn’t touch it either. Noticed the pain is getting more intense over time and tried my GP again, who can’t fit me in for another appointment for another week. I’ve barely had headaches before and certainly not a persistent one for this length of time and I’m seriously concerned about the fact it’s getting worse rather than better and is impacting me both mentally and with my work (I’ve barely been able to work since this came on 2 weeks ago).

Spoke to DP this morning as I’m at my wits end and considering contacting 111 for some urgent help/investigation. DP says it’s clearly a migraine and I shouldn’t waste time contacting an emergency number and should wait out my GP appointment. Would appreciate your thoughts, I don’t want to waste anyones time but I really am at my wits end with this pain Sad, surely this isn’t normal?

Thinking of you @Tulipelle

Hope all is ok and you’re not waiting too long. Some of these anecdotes are scary. Flowers

AllTheWeetabix · 14/03/2022 21:27

I hope you’re okay OP. I suffer with headaches and they can seriously be debilitating

polkadotpjs · 14/03/2022 21:28

Good luck - it sounds awful for you 😞

homemadecookie · 14/03/2022 21:29

Hope you're in less pain and they're getting to the bottom of your headaches. Flowers

Ddot · 14/03/2022 21:32

Summerfun are you ok

Arghhconfused · 14/03/2022 21:32

Hi, just wondered how you're getting on?

Ddot · 14/03/2022 21:36

Write down on a pad how the pain feels and in which areas. Whether it's worse morning time or evenings. I always loose my train of thought in hospitals and this helps

Sproutpie · 14/03/2022 21:36

Hope you’re feeling better Flowers

CoastalWave · 14/03/2022 21:36

Personally, I would be booking in for an opticians appointment.

They can quickly rule out anything sinister.

Hope you get to the bottom of what's causing this.

littlefireseverywhere · 14/03/2022 21:44

Hope you’re finding out what it is.

Summerfun54321 · 14/03/2022 21:48

@Ddot I think you need to ask @kittensinthekitchen she wrote that 😂 maybe YOU need to read the thread 😂

me4real · 14/03/2022 21:50

The GP has advised I go to A&E for a neurological assessment so I’m heading off there now. Still can’t help but feel I don’t necessarily need A&E but since it was advised I will go along and see what they have to say.

Even if it's just a precaution @Tulipelle , it's one you're right to take. Best wishes and hope all goes ok xx

SeraphinaDombegh · 14/03/2022 21:56

I hope you're getting good care and a diagnosis, OP Flowers

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 14/03/2022 21:56

2 weeks? Bloody hell. I had one for 4 days once and it drove me crazy. Glad you've gone to get it checked out

Minfilia · 14/03/2022 21:59

I had this, went to a GP after 4 weeks…

It was cervicogenic headache caused by a musculoskeletal issue, felt like a constant migraine but strong painkillers and physio cleared it.

Hope yours is something similar, it wasn’t pleasant but it went away when treated.

BuddhaAtSea · 14/03/2022 22:01

Hope you’re better @TulipelleFlowers

CanuckBC · 14/03/2022 22:11

I hope A&E is able to help you. Headaches can be horrific

WhiteJellycat · 14/03/2022 22:24

I hope you have been seen by now. I had a two week headache that nothing would touch. On day 11 I had a suspected stroke. Eventually they said it was bells palsey but I'm not convinced it was as my face 100% recovered after 3 days. Still no idea what it was but I am a migraine sufferer and not had a migraine since 10 ten months ago now

Bagelsandbrie · 14/03/2022 22:27

Hope A and E can help and find out what’s wrong. Sounds awful.

Itwasntmeright · 14/03/2022 22:33

Get your eye pressure tested.

justasking111 · 14/03/2022 22:37

@Itwasntmeright

Get your eye pressure tested.
I did was Lasered three weeks later then Lasered again, both failed . Four weeks later I'm going under the knife double cataract and tube surgery for glaucoma.

I did think of this for OP but mine isn't a constant pain the pressure goes up and down

justasking111 · 14/03/2022 22:42

@Tulipelle you still at the hospital ??

longcoffeebreak · 14/03/2022 22:45

Hope all is well

Tonsiltrouble · 14/03/2022 22:53

Glad you’re being checked.

One friend of mine went to a&e with a persistent headache which was actually a brain tumour.

Another ended up with a diagnosis of cluster headaches.

It really is worth getting things checked out.
