DH says I’m wasting NHS time. AIBU?

For the past two weeks I’ve had a persistent headache which is absolutely relentless. It’s an excruciating sharp shooting pain in one side of my head which just will not go with OTC painkillers and it’s been present non stop all this time. Contacted my GP last week who thought it could be a migraine (no other migraine symptoms, not made better by darkness etc) but the maximum dose of migraine medication doesn’t touch it either. Noticed the pain is getting more intense over time and tried my GP again, who can’t fit me in for another appointment for another week. I’ve barely had headaches before and certainly not a persistent one for this length of time and I’m seriously concerned about the fact it’s getting worse rather than better and is impacting me both mentally and with my work (I’ve barely been able to work since this came on 2 weeks ago).

Spoke to DP this morning as I’m at my wits end and considering contacting 111 for some urgent help/investigation. DP says it’s clearly a migraine and I shouldn’t waste time contacting an emergency number and should wait out my GP appointment. Would appreciate your thoughts, I don’t want to waste anyones time but I really am at my wits end with this pain Sad, surely this isn’t normal?

I would think this is trigeminal neuralgia

milcal · 14/03/2022 20:29

Maybe speak to an physiotherapist. The pain could be coming from a muscle on your neck that goes up the side of your head.

@kittensinthekitchen

What is it with people who think what they have to say is so important, they just have to get it in there despite whatever else has been said, and how much time has passed.
Hangry?
Clarabe1 · 14/03/2022 20:35

Oh I am so sorry! Thank goodness the thread police are here. I am punching myself in the face because I such an idiot. Thank you so much for pointing it out. I hope it’s made you feel big.

Ddot · 14/03/2022 20:40

🤣

kittensinthekitchen · 14/03/2022 20:41

Ah, @implantreplace have you returned to talk us through your personal experience with leaking CSF?

Nah, tigertigertigertiger said it definitely isn't.

Much, thanks.

And @implantreplace - am always hangry, thanks for asking.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 14/03/2022 20:47

I had a trapped nerve that caused head pain, but it was much more acute, so felt like someone had stabbed me in the head when it occured and it wasn't constant.
I hope you have been seen OP and all is now well with your head.

I actually find the thread police far more annoying than the comments that haven’t realised it’s moved on! They’re the equivalent of the ‘do not reply all’ people that reply all to tell you Grin
tinkywinkyshandbag · 14/03/2022 20:49

My first thought was trigeminal neuralgia very painful

Cloverforever · 14/03/2022 20:50

@Speakuptomakeyourselfheard

I think if you were suffering with a migraine OP you wouldn't even be able to look at a screen from my experience, so I'm glad to hear that your GP has now recommended a visit to A&E. Do let us know how you get on.
This is definitely not always the case. My dd suffers from migraines, as diagnosed by 2 consultants, and she can still text/snapchat like a teenage pro! Migraines aren't always like we imagine them to be.
MrsPerfect12 · 14/03/2022 20:52

Hope you've got some answers and are at home resting. Flowers

Firkinhavinalaugh · 14/03/2022 20:55

OP - not sure what stage you are currently at but if you are still struggling for an answer after today, please see a dentist. This could be referred pain x (just as another option)

And to reiterate what @Cloverforever said - ever had a silent migraine? You can still do these things and sometimes, just sometimes you can carry on with life - it’s not nice but necessary if you are a regular sufferer of migraine.

glittereyelash · 14/03/2022 20:56

Sounds like a cluster migraine I've had a few and they are so debilitating. You are always better to get checked out especially if you don't normally suffer with migraine. If it is migraine try and get an injection rather than tablets a lot of those meds are really hard on your stomach. Hope you get sorted and it's nothing serious.

Cece92 · 14/03/2022 21:01

I have no advice but I'm glad your getting it checked out. I hope you are okay. X

KneadingKitty · 14/03/2022 21:03

Im glad youve gone in.

I can't think why you would waste time asking your DP. Ring 111 now. After their discussion with you, they will also email the details of your enquiry and their advice to your GP so he'll know how worried you are.
If you feel that they may not be of help after talking to a clinician, then go to A&E but don't be put off by people telling you it's just a headache. As you're worried it might be more, just go to A&E. Better safe than sorry. It could be serious. Good luck. 🍀

RampantIvy · 14/03/2022 21:15

The OP went to A & E several hours ago @LoisLane66.

AliceAbsolum · 14/03/2022 21:17

Best go to A&E op 😂

CactusFlowers · 14/03/2022 21:17

@Datafan55

Definitely get it checked out. People access services for SO much less...

(The worst headache I've ever had - for weeks, and agonising - was from a trapped nerve in my neck. I had had it worked on just previous so it wasn't out of the blue - stupid bloke managed to crick it wrong)

Same here.

Hopefully it is something like this, if so volterol gel on your neck may help. Hope you don’t have to wait too long at A&E.

LoisLane66 · 14/03/2022 21:18

@RampantIvy
Yes, I realised that thanks. I did read most posts on the thread but not her last update.

WouldBeGood · 14/03/2022 21:18

Definitely not wasting time @Tulipelle. Hope you get it sorted
