DH says I’m wasting NHS time. AIBU?

For the past two weeks I’ve had a persistent headache which is absolutely relentless. It’s an excruciating sharp shooting pain in one side of my head which just will not go with OTC painkillers and it’s been present non stop all this time. Contacted my GP last week who thought it could be a migraine (no other migraine symptoms, not made better by darkness etc) but the maximum dose of migraine medication doesn’t touch it either. Noticed the pain is getting more intense over time and tried my GP again, who can’t fit me in for another appointment for another week. I’ve barely had headaches before and certainly not a persistent one for this length of time and I’m seriously concerned about the fact it’s getting worse rather than better and is impacting me both mentally and with my work (I’ve barely been able to work since this came on 2 weeks ago).

Spoke to DP this morning as I’m at my wits end and considering contacting 111 for some urgent help/investigation. DP says it’s clearly a migraine and I shouldn’t waste time contacting an emergency number and should wait out my GP appointment. Would appreciate your thoughts, I don’t want to waste anyones time but I really am at my wits end with this pain Sad, surely this isn’t normal?

Glad you’re getting checked out OP. Hope you can get sorted soon.

Bossbaby12z · 14/03/2022 19:37

Please go and see someone ASAP.. my husband was misdiagnosed with migraine. Turned out it was a bleed in the brain.

ememem84 · 14/03/2022 19:40

I had this But turned out it was sinuses playing silly buggers. Shockingly painful though. Best call is to get medical advice which I can see you’ve done.

Fingers crossed it’s something as minor as sinuses and nothing too scary xx

jytdtysrht · 14/03/2022 19:45

I hope it’s something minor. Your dh was VU to expect you to ignore these symptoms.

Juniper68 · 14/03/2022 19:54

Thank goodness dr listened.

SouperNoodle · 14/03/2022 19:57

I hope everything went well xx

maddening · 14/03/2022 19:58

Yanbu, my dbro had viral meningitis, the Dr said any headache lasting over a few hours and not improving with pain killers should be seen by a Dr.

Siriu5Black · 14/03/2022 19:59

Might be worth it seeing a physio or a chiro a lot of my migraines were exacerbated since lockdown and working from home. They are due to tension in back/ sitting too much, muscular imbalances etc hope this helps

Candlecassie · 14/03/2022 19:59

Hope you’ve had some treatment and are doing ok.

Tethersend01 · 14/03/2022 20:02

Definitely needs to he checked. Look up Giant cell arteritis, rare but if its this needs prompt treatment with steroids.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/03/2022 20:04

good luck op

SheAndHerAreWomen · 14/03/2022 20:04

Hope you're ok OPThanks

Wheresthebeach · 14/03/2022 20:06

Glad you’re being seen. Sorry your DH is being a dick

Crystalvas · 14/03/2022 20:06

Hope your ok OP. Glad your getting it checked out. Never dismiss pain especially if its persistant, its an indication that somethings wrong.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 14/03/2022 20:14

Glad you're going to A&E. your partner sounds awful. Can't believe he's happy to see the person he's supposed to love and care for in pain.

womaninatightspot · 14/03/2022 20:15

I had a similar headache, weirdly turned into facial paralysis on one side and then a hemifacial spasm on the other. Lots of tests, mri, lumbar puncture, ct scan bloods. Not entirely sure what caused it but it was inflammtion causing pressure on the nerves. Not sure what medication you've tried but Naproxen (strong anti inflammatory) really helped (you can buy it over the counter in boots for period pain).

ClinkeyMonkey · 14/03/2022 20:15

Very glad you were advised to go to A&E. Although you will hear of people who have migraines lasting a couple of weeks, it is very unusual. I hope you get some answers and some reliefThanks

Speakuptomakeyourselfheard · 14/03/2022 20:16

I think if you were suffering with a migraine OP you wouldn't even be able to look at a screen from my experience, so I'm glad to hear that your GP has now recommended a visit to A&E. Do let us know how you get on.

CambsAlways · 14/03/2022 20:18

You need to be seen, I think your husband is being a unsympathetic idiot! I’d be going to a walk in centre or failing that A& E, I would have gone there within a few days of it not calming down, good luck

Sapphireskies · 14/03/2022 20:20

How are you doing OP

LemonDrizzles · 14/03/2022 20:22

Dp is wrong. Look after yourself. Seek help now.

All the best

Bignanny30 · 14/03/2022 20:23

Phone the doctor’s back and insist on seeing someone. - tell them how bad it is. Don’t play it down or let them brush you off.

Clarabe1 · 14/03/2022 20:24

Get yourself to the doctors and ignore DH. It’s not his head that’s hurting. You are most definitely not wasting NHS time. You are in pain and it needs investigating

What is it with people who think what they have to say is so important, they just have to get it in there despite whatever else has been said, and how much time has passed.
