Tuesday as a middle name?

227 replies

coolyeraeroplane · 10/03/2022 19:29

DH wants to give our daughter the middle name 'Tuesday' (won't go into the reasons why). I actually don't hate it but don't love it either but I know it would make him very happy and his parents. I just think will people think we're mental using Tuesday as a middle name? Like teachers etc? I feel it's very alternative.

Her name would be Jessica Tuesday Jenkins.

Middle names are kind of irrelevant anyway really. I think it’s a bit weird if they aren’t born on a Tuesday in the same way I find it odd when winter born children are called Summer.

MurmuratingStarling · 22/03/2022 10:09

@VillanellesOrangeCoat

Why are posters insistent that there should be a good reason for it so DD isn’t embarrassed when people as why? Surely “my parents liked the name” will suffice?
@VillanellesOrangeCoat

Whilst I think 'Tuesday' is OK, the parents liking the name is not a good enough reason to give any old name to a child. We're talking about a name a person has to live with for life. Why not call them Gengiskhan Smith, or Planetarium Jones, or Yorkshireterrier Jackson.

You can't give a child a name just because you like that name.' Think about the child, and the fact he/she has got to live with that name for life.

@FajitaFriday

I was very nearly named Tuesday (I was born on a Tuesday tbf) my full name would’ve been Tuesday Thompson - which I think sounds pretty cool and superhero-y - but I’m not cool enough to pull a name like that off Grin in the end my parents agreed on a very boring vanilla first name which I can’t even pronounce properly because I have a glottal stop Confused😛
Tuesday Thompson is brilliant! Grin Sounds like a detective. A no-holds-barred maverick who takes no prisoners, but has a heart of gold, and a dog she takes everywhere! Grin

My niece sponsors two African children called Wednesday and Saturday. They are brothers.

SheWoreYellow · 22/03/2022 12:15

@coolyeraeroplane

What about Amelia Tuesday Jenkins?
Lovely. I agree that Jessica Jenkins is a bit hard to say.
caringcarer · 22/03/2022 12:17

Child will probably end up as JJ. Don't know why but people who's name begins with J often have that happen to them. Eg J Lo. I know a JK and a JD.

BigFatLiar · 22/03/2022 12:26

@user1471447863

It's better than Wednesday

Nothing really wrong with it, there are many much worse names out there

Wednesday would be great, dress her in black and teach her to click her fingers.
VampireMoney · 22/03/2022 12:30

I was named for the day of the week I was born on. I love it. It's not Tuesday though but I love that too!

crosstalk · 22/03/2022 12:57

In West Africa it used to be a thing to call your children for the day they were born (with other names attached).

So Monday could give you Kojo, Jojo and others, Friday Kofi, and Saturday Kwame. With multitudes of others. A bit like the names given to Christians born on all the saints days (of which there a few for every day!).

Mintine · 22/03/2022 13:09

I love it, but they would have to have been born on a Tuesday for me

TheOriginalEmu · 22/03/2022 13:12

I love it. But I’m biased as it’s my child’s middle name.

Florence97 · 22/03/2022 13:13

I think its a beautiful name - and why not if it makes him happy?

UniBallEye · 22/03/2022 13:39

I think it's great and if it means something to your family why not? I cannot imagine in 2022 that anyone would bat an eyelid at Tuesday as a name?
There are some incredibly conservative views being aired on here! I'd love to know the names of the children of the people saying it's weird - lots of top 10 names I'd guess.
Our dd has unusual names both first and surnames and she LOVES them. Not once has she been bullied or teased due to her name.

VampireMoney · 22/03/2022 13:48

My kids all have 'out there' names (by MN standards anyway!) and have never been picked on for them.

The most I ever got for having a day of the week as a name was occasionally some smart arse kid would call me by a different day like it was funny. But that's about it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pbbananabagel · 22/03/2022 14:34

That is a seriously Badass full name, love it!

AbleCable · 22/03/2022 15:04

I dont hate it but I wouldn't be mad about it either. Would your DP settle for Ruby?

Nicholethejewellery · 22/03/2022 15:32

I wouldn't do it myself, they'll inevitably pickup the nickname "See you next" when kids find out about it at school.

BubblesThaDragoon · 22/03/2022 16:25

I love it - I knew a girl called Tuesday when I was a teenager - always thought it was a cool name!

Whatsonmymindgrapes · 22/03/2022 18:23

No way it’s silly

VampireMoney · 22/03/2022 18:33

@Whatsonmymindgrapes

No way it’s silly
Why? My first name is a day of the week and I've never had anyone call it silly!
NETSRIK · 22/03/2022 18:34

Tuesday is a gorgeous name. I'd love it if I had another girl.

again2020 · 22/03/2022 18:40

I love it!
My daughter was born on a Tuesday and im actually annoyed I didn't think of this as a potential middle name 😊😂

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 23/03/2022 05:50

I went to school with a girl called Tuesday, after Tuesday Weld, the actress. I don't think she was teased for it, AFAIK. I think it's pretty.

SatansHelper · 23/03/2022 06:11

I love it, but then it's my daughter's middle name although spelt slightly differently. It was also a compromise as he father wanted to call her Tuesday as a first name. Now in her teens she says the only issues she had growing up with it is her friends asking if she was born on a Tuesday (she wasn't).

DoobryWhatsit · 23/03/2022 06:15

If he desperately wants it and you don't hate it, then I'd go for it. Kids are called much weirder shit than that these days, no one at school would raise an eye row.
