Tuesday as a middle name?

coolyeraeroplane · 10/03/2022 19:29

DH wants to give our daughter the middle name 'Tuesday' (won't go into the reasons why). I actually don't hate it but don't love it either but I know it would make him very happy and his parents. I just think will people think we're mental using Tuesday as a middle name? Like teachers etc? I feel it's very alternative.

Her name would be Jessica Tuesday Jenkins.

To be honest it won’t make a huge amount of difference. As a first name I’d say no but I think the middle spot is the perfect place for a name like that.

What would put me off is that her day to day name will be ‘Jessica Jenkins.’ It’s a bit Marvel.

Kanaloa · 22/03/2022 00:52

@scrivette

There was a Tuesday in the Point Horror book 'Freeze Tag' and I have always liked it since then.

Jessica Jones is an awesome name.

Case in point for it being a bit marvel 😂
hazandduck · 22/03/2022 00:57

Ah I love it. And my youngest daughter was born on a Tuesday night! Wish I’d thought of it 😄

Onthedunes · 22/03/2022 01:00

Love it.

Your husband has good taste and his parents.

Tuesday Weld is mentioned in the song New Frontier by Donald Fagin.

An actress considered extremely beatiful in the 60's.

beinggreen · 22/03/2022 01:03

Appreciate you don't want to share the details here... but are the reasons for naming her Tuesday reasons she'll feel comfortable talking about when people inevitably ask her when she's older?

Assuming it's not something private to you and/or DH, I actually don't hate Tuesday as a middle name. I'm surprised by that. Grin

Threeboysandadog · 22/03/2022 01:11

I know a Tuesday. It’s a great name and really suits her.

It's not a name it's a day of the week!
4timesthefun · 22/03/2022 01:26

I think it could work if there is a good story to why Tuesday…… I think Friday or Sunday make much more sense if you are just plucking a random day of the week, particularly given the whole ‘c u next Tuesday’ thing is the most notable joke about a weekday.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 22/03/2022 01:30

I really like it.
It would be great to have as a quirky middle name.

ForeverSingle881 · 22/03/2022 05:43
  1. Reminds of the Adams Family
  2. Tuesday is a terrible day, worst day of the week if you have a 9-5 standard job
garlictwist · 22/03/2022 05:59

I work with a woman called Friday and a friends daughter is called Wednesday. So Tuesday is no different.

Relentlessrose · 22/03/2022 06:07

Tuesday is a great middle name, so long as her first name isn't Margherita or Taco

TenoringBehind · 22/03/2022 06:40

I think ‘anything goes’ with middle names, provided the first name is less controversial, However, I’d only use it if you’re prepared and happy to give the story behind it to people in real life because they will definitely ask. If it’s in any way personal/private to you as a couple then I wouldn’t saddle a child with that burden.

TenoringBehind · 22/03/2022 06:41

And contrary to many posters here I think Tuesday is one of the best days of the week. I much prefer a busy Tuesday to more aimless weekend days,

DearMallorie · 22/03/2022 07:12

I think it's lovely.

Del73 · 22/03/2022 07:27

I loved the name and bf said ok if she’s born on a Tuesday..she was but he changed his mind quickly 🤨 decided on the name Talia instead and 21 years later she says she would have hated being called tuesday so all turned ok I guess, but I love the name 😊 as middle name no problem!

Ellmau · 22/03/2022 08:13

As long as her first name isn't Ruby...

It's a bit eccentric but not completely outlandish, and most people won't know anyway.

HoveringDonkeyofKnock · 22/03/2022 08:28

I don’t really get why you would call someone a day. As others have said Tiw, Tyr, or Mars maybe. But why a day? Day of someone. It’s too literal for me.

CruCru · 22/03/2022 08:38

I much prefer Jessica to Amelia - mainly because Amelia is so popular it’s become a bit dull.

Tuesday as a middle name is fine. I’ve met lots of people with “odd” middle names - no one cares.

Jumpalicious · 22/03/2022 08:41

Such a cool name!

burnoutbabe · 22/03/2022 08:52

I'd assume conceived on a Tuesday which isn't a nice thing to think about a child /their parents. (I mean it's awkward of chatting and you are trying not to think about them having sex on a special Tuesday and why is Tuesday sex day? )

LadyEloise1 · 22/03/2022 08:58

Is it nicer than Monday ? Or Friday ?

Jumpalicious · 22/03/2022 09:14

Tuesday = sex day 😂. I would never make that connection.

I’d assume the kid was born on a Tuesday, or maybe that the mother or father was. Or I’d assume something special about the day.

Or that she was a bit feisty…

“Old English Tīwesdæg ‘day of Tīw’, a Germanic god of war and the sky; translation of Latin dies Marti ‘day of Mars’, the god Tīw being equated with the Roman god Mars. Compare with Swedish tisdag .”

VillanellesOrangeCoat · 22/03/2022 09:19

Why are posters insistent that there should be a good reason for it so DD isn’t embarrassed when people as why? Surely “my parents liked the name” will suffice?

FajitaFriday · 22/03/2022 09:41

I was very nearly named Tuesday (I was born on a Tuesday tbf) my full name would’ve been Tuesday Thompson - which I think sounds pretty cool and superhero-y - but I’m not cool enough to pull a name like that off Grin in the end my parents agreed on a very boring vanilla first name which I can’t even pronounce properly because I have a glottal stop Confused😛
