Wedding breakfast is at 4:30pm.

Evening food will be wedding cake and some cheese.

AIBU to think I am going to have to bring along a sandwich and some late night snacks?

@Notcontent

Can anyone explain why it’s called a breakfast?
First meal eaten after the wedding.
BOOTS52 · 06/03/2022 18:00

Pass no heed Aztec as the food police seem to be on here ready and happy to make assumptions. I know at weddings here everyone is starving at 11pm as dancing having few drinks and when they bring out the mini burgers and fancy chips/sandwiches and other bits everyone digs in and it helps soak up the alcohol. Usually wedding cake you get is tiny anyway. I remember as a kid my parents would always bring home the wedding cake in a napkin for us kids and we loved it. Enjoy the day, bring a George Foreman and plug into wall and put on a few sausages haha....

Wedding breakfast 4:30. By 8pm you will be hungry cake and cheese aren’t going to be enough by midnight you will be super hungry especially if you have had a drink and been dancing. I would bring food in your bag. No evening Buffett? Sounds crazy!
I’ve been to a wedding where it was at 5pm and a Buffett at 7:30 which was out until 10-11pm. And I’ve been to a wedding at 6pm and three course sit down meal at 8pm which saw us through. But 4:30 with no evening Buffett seems crazy.

twominutesmore · 06/03/2022 18:02

@Wheresthebeach

I always travel with snacks. You just never know....def take something.

Ignore the rude competitive 'non eater' comments.

I'm definitely not a non-eater. I'm saying a three course meal plus cake plus cheeseboard is probably enough of an evening.
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/03/2022 18:02

I don’t think a block of cheese is gonna cut it

It's hardly going to just be a block of Cathedral City on a plate to split amongst 100 people is it?!

EthelTheAardvark · 06/03/2022 18:03

Why can't you get lunch? Even if you're travelling isn't it possible at least to grab a sandwich?

PinkSyCo · 06/03/2022 18:03

Blimey I love my grub but I think you’re being a bit dramaticOP. Were you expecting them to lay on another full meal at 10pm or something?

The trouble is you never know. I went to one wedding where all the evening buffet had gone but the time we got to the front of the queue. Having an emergency sandwich is sensible.
NinaDefoe · 06/03/2022 18:04

Loads of food at 4.30 followed by even more food just a few hours later?
I think I’d cope.

As others have said, if that’s not enough for you, order a takeaway later on.

irregularegular · 06/03/2022 18:05

Sounds perfect to me! If I have a big/late lunch I quite often have a cheese plate in the evening. Christmas pretty much works like that too. A good cheese board is a wondrous thing!!!

irregularegular · 06/03/2022 18:07

Wedding breakfast 4:30. By 8pm you will be hungry

Seriously?? They probably won't really be finished with the meal until nearly 7...And even if they were actually finished at 4.30, it is NOT normal to be hungry for a big meal 3.5 hours later!

Bacon sandwich? Fish and chips?

You'll be stuffed from a 3 course dinner, you're not going to want more than cheese and biscuits and cake later. Just make sure to have lunch before the ceremony.

OnceaTeacherAlwaysOne · 06/03/2022 18:09

Ridiculous.

If you eat lunch of some sort, and then have 'tea' of cheese and cake, you won't need much else.

Put a banana or apple in your suitcase and you will survive.

irregularegular · 06/03/2022 18:09

It's actually the waiting until 4.30pm I'd be more worried about. Make sure you get lunch before the ceremony!!

So if you have dinner at 6pm by 9.30pm you need another full meal?
Aztecprint6 · 06/03/2022 18:14

Can't be bothered reading the whole thread but I suspect "a bit of cheese" is just your p.a. way of describing the evening buffet?

Nope. I wish there were an evening buffet!

Its mumsnet that piece of cheese should do you all week
I normally try and have a good breakfast when i go to weddings and don't always know what food is and if I will like it, plus last couple i have been too the portions were tiny , even the bride and groom were not impressed considering how much they paid
But my mum recently went to a wedding where they had cheese and she said loads of different cheese, biscuits , fruit etc
But then if you Don't like cheese
If staying at venue have a few snacks in your room that you can nip up and grab

PinkNails1 · 06/03/2022 18:14

Why is everyone saying they’d be “full” after this “substantial meal”? OP doesn’t know what the meal will consist of! I’m underweight and if the wedding breakfast consists of a dry chicken breast, some veg and a dessert then I too would be hungry later on. Especially as there’ll be alcohol and dancing! What if OP doesn’t like cheese?

PinkSyCo · 06/03/2022 18:15

Bacon sandwich? Fish and chips?

Fish on chips a few hours after a 3 course meal? Shock
I agree a bacon sandwich might be nice though, but probably not that much more filling than cheese and crackers/bread.

Roussette · 06/03/2022 18:15

I've always found it just odd that people can't get on a plane for 2 hours or watch a film for 2 hours without feeling the need to stuff their faces.

OP you won't starve!

I've been to a wedding with cheese later on and it was really wonderful. Grapes, fresh figs, celery, every type of local cheese imaginable, loads of different crackers, sourdough lightly toasted, chutneys, pickles etc...

bedheadedzombie · 06/03/2022 18:15

I once read somewhere that you should eat a full English breakfast before attending a wedding because you don't know when you'll be properly fed.

Works for me.
