to think I am going to be starving at this wedding?

Wedding breakfast is at 4:30pm.

Evening food will be wedding cake and some cheese.

AIBU to think I am going to have to bring along a sandwich and some late night snacks?

@Mellowyellow222 Lots of people (I'd argue most) wouldn't have an evening meal if they've had a 3 course meal at 4.30pm, and then snacks.

I thought for a minute the OP was one of our wedding guests, except our meal is at 5pm Wink

Grilledaubergines · 06/03/2022 17:44

Presumably if it’s a destination wedding you’re staying over at the venue? Or nearby in a hotel? So just take a few snack type things and put them in your room fridge.

toomuchlaundry · 06/03/2022 17:44

For those saying it will be a substantial meal, that might not necessarily be true. A wedding we are going to the couple want it to be informal so not having a formal meal and just having light nibbles for the wedding breakfast

TolkiensFallow · 06/03/2022 17:45

I always have a sausage roll and a twix in my handbag at a wedding. I’ve been to too many where I’m not fed enough.

Woollystockings · 06/03/2022 17:45

@cuno
That’s not strictly true. It not that it’s the first meal after marriage. It’s that it’s the first meal after the Eucharistic mass (when weddings were performed) and people would have fasted before that religious service.

WutheringHeights66 · 06/03/2022 17:45

We went to a wedding last year and it was similar timing, the evening snack was pizza slices and chips and bread buns. I like food but I was genuinely ok without the evening food.

If you’re worried put some mini packs of crackers in your handbag.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 06/03/2022 17:46

It’s not JUST going to be cheese though op and you know that. But nothing like exaggerating to have a dig.

You also won’t be starving, you’ll be hungry. And there’s nothing wrong with being hungry, take a snack in your bag or buy some crisps at ether bar. stop being hyperbolic, it makes you sound dramatic.

PurpleDaisies · 06/03/2022 17:47

It is a bit miserable feeling hungry though, especially at an event and it’s not a great combination if you’re also drinking and dancing.

Fuckin’ ‘ell. Nothing like breaking open a Ginsters during the cake cutting.
Blossom64265 · 06/03/2022 17:48

It’s a really typical schedule for weddings near me, but the evening would just be the cake and coffee. No cheese course. While I have often wished for a little something, especially if the cake is an unappealing flavor, I’ve never been starving.

Grilledaubergines · 06/03/2022 17:49

Are these people who take food in their bag to a wedding also the sort who have dinner on the table at the same time every night or all hell will break loose?

No. I just know I get hungry and I’d rather not be totally pissed if I haven’t had enough to eat.

This thread is gold.Grin

@Aztecprint6 I’m a glamorous size 12 @MyDcAreMarvel** I said you had food issues not that you were obese.

bluepeacock · 06/03/2022 17:53

Can't be bothered reading the whole thread but I suspect "a bit of cheese" is just your p.a. way of describing the evening buffet?

At my wedding we had a 3 course meal at about 4.30pm and then a buffet consisting of pork pies, meats, crackers and yes, cheese etc at about 7pm.

It was substantial and delicious. If you can't survive on all that and have your digestive regime slightly disrupted for one evening then either don't go to the wedding or shove a couple of Mars bars into your handbag?

mrsm43s · 06/03/2022 17:55

OP, how many three course evening meals do you normally eat in one evening?

I'm sure one three course meal plus a (not so) light meal of cheese, crackers and fruitcake is plenty for one evening.

I'm actually quite flabbergasted that anyone would think that they needed more than one three course meal and a light second meal in one single evening! Presumably OP will also be eating breakfast and lunch before turning up at the wedding?

In any case, take snacks in your handbag if you really think you need a third evening meal that day.

ifonly4 · 06/03/2022 17:56

OP doesn't seem to know that wedding breakfast is. It'd normally be a three course meal or a good buffet. Also, it's not known that it'll be just cheese - again it'd be the norm to add biscuits, nice bread and/or grapes and celery. Unless you've been particularly told that you won't be getting what you'd normally have, there really isn't any need to worry. Even if it's just a three course meal, a couple of pieces of cheese and then cake, that's more than enough.

WutheringHeights66 · 06/03/2022 17:57

@Aztecprint6

I’m a glamorous size 12 *@MyDcAreMarvel* and I think you’re getting a bit over-invested in attacking me a lighthearted thread.
Don’t listen to them OP, I’m like you, some days I don’t eat until 14:00 but I do like a good evening dinner and pudding and as I’m an early riser I’m usually in bed at 21:00 so staying up for a wedding until probably midnight would mean I could well be peckish in the evening.

my eating habits are much a 16:8 diet without trying.

twominutesmore · 06/03/2022 17:57

God knows why they are even inviting you. I can't imagine being invited to celebrate someone's wedding and then bitching about the choices they've made.

Very usual to have the ceremony during the afternoon, followed by the wedding breakfast at about 4:30. You can eat breakfast and lunch as usual, then have your three course dinner from 4:30 onwards. I doubt you'll be finished until 6ish.

Then, in the evening they're serving cake and a cheeseboard. It's all typical. It's weird that you think it's weird. If you have dietary requirements that require you to eat more into the evening then by all means take a snack or get something on the way home without complaining about what they're offering, which I'm sure has come at considerable cost.

Ask them for Dominoes like the other wedding thread 😂

@Tdcp

God yeah I'd be starving aswell. Absolutely bring some food or if you can, order a takeaway later on... It's very unfair to not be fed adequately when it's a destination wedding and it's costing so much to attend!
How is a three course meal plus cake and a buffet not substantial?

Amazed at how many daily calories people need.

bjjgirl · 06/03/2022 17:59

Wedding meal is at 430, why would you need a further meal???

Wheresthebeach · 06/03/2022 17:59

I always travel with snacks. You just never know....def take something.

Ignore the rude competitive 'non eater' comments.
