Wedding breakfast is at 4:30pm.

Evening food will be wedding cake and some cheese.

AIBU to think I am going to have to bring along a sandwich and some late night snacks?

I agree... there's enough to see to with catering for allergies etc. As I said before, some people seem to loathe weddings because they think they won't get fed every two hours. They really ought to decline the invite, it would be much easier for them.

Agreed. If the idea of a three course meal spooks you because "It'll be small portions of fancy cuisine food! Not BIG enough!" you'd be doing everyone a favour by going to Wetherspoons instead.

Because if this is how you react to wedding invitations then I dread to think what your table manners are like.

Yes, that's because all people who don't declare themselves full to the brim after a few mouthfuls of carrot and a sliver of lamb all have their elbows on the table, forks in the wrong hand and swig their champagne and belch the alphabet
Or something 😂
Bonkers

You really haven’t bothered to read any of the posts from those of us who have had bad experiences in the past with wedding food being small portions (or just bad). How is someone taking a sandwich in their handbag linked to bad table manners?

TheKeatingFive · 08/03/2022 15:13

after a few mouthfuls of carrot and a sliver of lamb

That's just as bonkers. No one is advocating that.

I honestly don't think they have, or they're not taking it in

I know I was using hyperbole but this response takes the cake, to coin a phrase.

Also, I'm so excited as I've just got close to being called a competitive underwater on MN!

rainbowmash · 08/03/2022 15:19

*undereater not underwater!!!

(I prefer champagne to water anyway)

DropYourSword · 08/03/2022 15:34

If thinking that a three course meal and then a cheese platter and cake is more than sufficient makes me a competitive undereater then fuck me, I must be a gold medalist!

Gwenhwyfar · 08/03/2022 16:01

"Even if I'm getting ready for a large formal event, I'll still eat at least once if I know the first meal served will be at 4. Even with a hair appointment and an outfit crisis. It's reasonable for the hosts to assume that guests will arrive having eaten."

Of course. I can understand not wanting to get food on your formal clothes before leaving the house, but it's your own responsibility to eat when you're at home.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/03/2022 16:03

"And you’re right, “big” portions are not usually served"

I've had big portions at every wedding I've been to.

Lucky you.

You’ve only got to read a few wedding threads on here (including this one) to see that’s not universally the case.

Shouldbedoing · 08/03/2022 16:27

I've been at a wedding where the buffet food was eaten by the first 3/4 of the guests while the rest got nothing

@EeeICouldRipATissue I’ve definitely taken it in. And I still think that wanting more than a cheese course and cake just a few hours after what is likely to be at least three course wedding breakfast is greedy 🤷‍♀️
WhatHaveIFound · 08/03/2022 16:42

@EeeICouldRipATissue

Also the weddings that are most remembered are the ones that leave their guests hungry, we still all talk about one from around 20 years ago but not for the right reasons lol
This!

Can still remember the one where we had to go to McDonald's between the church and the reception because they'd allowed over 3 hours for photographs!

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/03/2022 16:49

@WhatHaveIFound HAD to go to McDonald’s?! You didn’t HAVE to go to McDonald’s. You wouldn’t have died from hunger you could have waited, you chose not to

TheHaka · 08/03/2022 16:49

In true MN style take a massive salad in a cool bag, decorate it with flowers so everyone will think it’s your designer wedding bag.

I read them, I just refuse to believe the problem lay with the hosts quite as much as they wanted to believe
balalake · 08/03/2022 17:12

I hope OP that only on Mumsnet you exaggerate. You will be hungry perhaps, and can make preparations to counteract that.

What? And not bring the mumsnet chicken? Heresy!

Happy to see such an easy to solve, happy AIBU! Stuff some maltesers in your handbag. Voila!
Baconandmaplesyrup · 08/03/2022 18:08

I’m honestly stunned how much food sone folks need to eat and am hugely envious they are all slim. Honestly if five courses wasn’t enough for me and I needed to eat more on top I’d have a signficant weight issue.

What strikes me is many of the people who are saying this is more than enough and generous, all love their food and are saying they overweight in some instances, but it would still be enough food for them .

But every poster who needs more is slim/healthy weight with no food issues, they just need to eat vast quantities of food.

Wish I could. 😂

LimeSegment · 08/03/2022 19:57

The greed on the this thread is quite sickening, starving a few hours after a three course meal, can't leave the house without a bag of food Confused

And I'm overweight and pretty greedy myself, I often eat a latge amount of food, but this is way to much even for me.

If you are ever invited to a wedding in Australia OP, immediately decline. Weddings here are typically similar timings but there is no evening buffet. Cake and tea/coffee is served at 8/9pm, that's it.

PurpleDaisies · 08/03/2022 20:00

And I'm overweight and pretty greedy myself, I often eat a large amount of food, but this is way to much even for me.

And I’m a size 8. I wouldn’t judge you for what you’re eating. I don’t appreciate you judging me.
