Wedding breakfast is at 4:30pm.

Evening food will be wedding cake and some cheese.

AIBU to think I am going to have to bring along a sandwich and some late night snacks?

They’ll start serving at 4:30, starters will be done by 5:30, mains served at 6, pud at 7. Cheeseboard with crackers/bread hopefully - at 10pm. You’ll probably be okay I should think

Roussette · 07/03/2022 21:28

I've no idea why some people on here bother going to weddings if they're so shit and awful.

I've never ever felt like that about any wedding I've been to, because I'm not that fussy and I'm there for reasons, other than the food.

LuckySantangelo35 · 07/03/2022 21:40

@anotherheadache I would make sure guests are fed and watered well of course, that would be one of my priorities. But catering for the minority who would want more hot food just a couple of hours after a three course meal…nah I’m not shelling out on that, it’s unnecessary.

NETSRIK · 07/03/2022 21:40

Starving?

endoflevelbaddy · 07/03/2022 21:50

Seriously, take food. If you're staying overnight a subway waiting for you in the hotel room will always get eaten.

I've been to dozens and there's only a couple we were well fed at 😂

TheKeatingFive · 07/03/2022 21:54

I know right? I feel sorry for these brides and grooms inviting ungrateful MNers to their weddings. And as for deciding the food will be 'shit' apropos of nothing. How childish.

anotherheadache · 07/03/2022 21:56

I don't think anyone has suggested that weddings are shit or awful, just talking about how frustrating it is to be hungry in the evening because it's not been properly catered.

TheKeatingFive · 07/03/2022 22:00

In what universe is a three course meal, followed up by cake and a cheese board a few hours afterwards 'not properly catered'?

Roussette · 07/03/2022 22:07

anotherheadache

A pp said the food for this wedding sounded 'shit'. I'm only repeating what they said

Sharnydubs · 07/03/2022 22:08

Any wedding I've been to we've never actually eaten at 4.30. By the time everyone finds their places at the table, cake is cut, speeches made etc. It's often around 5.30 before the first course is being served. Sometimes it's touch and go whether the meal is finished in time for the band / disco arriving at 7.30

EeeICouldRipATissue · 07/03/2022 22:14

Half 4 start is early for a main meal.
You'll be finished about what, 6.30?
In my experience those who say stuff like there'll be loads of food!
are those who serve up a three course main meal comprising a starter of a bowl of soup, a main course of a few prettily arranged pieces of vegetables and a dessert of fruit.
Nowhere near enough substantial for drinking on, by 8pm you're absolutely ravenous and a few chunks of fancy cheese and crackers just isn't going to cut it 😂 (especially me who can't even eat cheese)

EeeICouldRipATissue · 07/03/2022 22:15

Also the weddings that are most remembered are the ones that leave their guests hungry, we still all talk about one from around 20 years ago but not for the right reasons lol

TheKeatingFive · 07/03/2022 22:16

I doubt it. 7 at the earliest. Then more food in a couple of hours.

You're just making up bollocks now, just who is proposing a meal like this?

EeeICouldRipATissue · 07/03/2022 22:20

You're just making up bollocks now
I seriously wish I was! 😭😂
Alas, no.
I'd go into more detail but the story has been told in RL before so potentially outing

anotherheadache · 07/03/2022 22:20

I'm getting the feeling @TheKeatingFive that you might have served cheese and crackers as your evening buffet?!

Aztecprint6 · 07/03/2022 22:22

I will be sure to update you all… 🧀

And you'd be totally wrong.

I just don't see where this idea of a three course meal, followed up by a cheese board and cake is 'under catering'. It's just ridiculous.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 07/03/2022 22:22

Then more food in a couple of hours.

Yes, some cheese, yay
All the cheese board people I hope you served some alternatives
I'd have had to have started gnawing the table legs 🤣

TheKeatingFive · 07/03/2022 22:23

Yes, some cheese, yay

Almost certainly with bread, crackers, fruit and possibly other bits like pate.

Then cake.

giggly · 07/03/2022 22:25

Is a wedding breakfast an English thingConfused
I mean why is it called a breakfast in late afternoon, what’s that all about then?

TheKeatingFive · 07/03/2022 22:25

I'd go into more detail but the story has been told in RL before so potentially outing

Without requiring you to go into your terribly outing story, I'm sure you can agree that a wedding meal of just soup, veg and fruit would be extremely unusual.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 07/03/2022 22:26

OK, just a plate of crackers for me then.
That'll soak up all the day drinking

TheKeatingFive · 07/03/2022 22:27

That'll soak up all the day drinking

Just ignoring the meal then?

And I dont think the couple can be wholly responsible for people who don't eat bread, cheese or cake.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 07/03/2022 22:30

I went to one wedding where we got about 3 Prawns for starter, a slither of pork with 1 potato and a tablespoon of veg for main and 2 profiteroles for dessert.
When you throw in copious amounts of booze it is absolutely shite

Exactly
I bet they thought they'd absolutely stuffed you with a substantial meal too

LuckySantangelo35 · 07/03/2022 22:33

@EeeICouldRipATissue
What do you propose to be adequate catering then?
