to think I am going to be starving at this wedding?

Wedding breakfast is at 4:30pm.

Evening food will be wedding cake and some cheese.

AIBU to think I am going to have to bring along a sandwich and some late night snacks?

YABU to use the word “starving”. Pretty offensive to those who genuinely don’t have enough food.

SilverDoe · 06/03/2022 20:40

I eat way too much and this would be more enough for me. A wedding breakfast is usually a 3 course meal. It's not a bowl of coco pops.

A 3 course meal then cake and cheese a while later, at an event where you are drinking and socialising and generally being up and about? Don't know why you would want to be stuffed full at a celebration.

FixTheBone · 06/03/2022 20:41

Wtf is a wedding breakfast?

Aztecprint6 · 06/03/2022 20:44

@ThatsNotMyGolem

One of my rules in life is this:

Always take food to a wedding.

It has served me well.

I'm going to take a roast chicken.

You may normally eat at 7, but you probably don't have what I am assuming is at least a 3-course meal at 4.30.

You will not be starving. This is ridiculous.

SweetPotatoDumpling · 06/03/2022 20:46

Only on Mumsnet 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Jesus fucking Christ OP...you'll be fine!!

me4real · 06/03/2022 20:49

YABU to use the word “starving”. Pretty offensive to those who genuinely don’t have enough food.

@Lalliella it's a metaphorical/informal usage meaning very hungry.

I would feel the same @Aztecprint6 , I'd probably have something more substantial before I went.

Creameggs223 · 06/03/2022 20:51

@RandomBasic

So you have lunch, at 1pm daily then dinner around 6,7,8.

This thing will be done by 9 so then have a takeaway on the way home.

I've never been to a wedding and it be over by 9pm
LuckySantangelo35 · 06/03/2022 20:52

@Aztecprint6
“I'm going to take a roast chicken”
So were joking all along OP, good one. Had some of us genuinely baffled that you could be worried about being ‘starving’

kittensinthekitchen · 06/03/2022 20:53

That was as the only food that was going to be served at that wedding. It wasn’t pizza in addition to a three course wedding breakfast. Maybe improve your compression skills if you plan to search posting history.

@MyDcAreMarvel

Firstly, I didn't search. I had not long read that thread and remembered a few comments, yours was one of them.
Secondly, the OP never once said they would be having a three course meal. Maybe improve your "compression skills".

Kiopa · 06/03/2022 20:54

I don't think you'll be hungry. I expect the meal will last 4.30-7ish. cheese will probably get putout at 7ish. In my experience evening 'cheese' at a wedding means an enormous amount of cheese (either a few massive wheels or lots of different types across a huge board) with loads of crackers, fruit, nuts, chutneys etc. I've been to three weddings that had that set up but with an earlier meal and was plenty full.

LuckySantangelo35 · 06/03/2022 20:54

@HereComesTheSum hardly living on a lettuce leaf to be fine with a full wedding breakfast at 4.30 followed by cheese and cake later on.

Kiopa · 06/03/2022 20:54

Cheese at 9ish that should have said

1forAll74 · 06/03/2022 20:55

Fill up with some gin, or champagne, then you will be happy, instead of hungry..

Woeismethischristmas · 06/03/2022 20:55

Cheese is substantial though I quite happily skip dinner in favour of cheese and chutney some nights. Couldn’t do it a lot as I’d be massively fat! Take some oatcakes to bulk it out.

Baconandmaplesyrup · 06/03/2022 20:56

A roast chicken 🤣🤣🤣

BSideBaby · 06/03/2022 20:57

I think you'll probably get by OP, somehow.

Satansballsacks · 06/03/2022 21:03

@Baconandmaplesyrup

A roast chicken 🤣🤣🤣
God, yes, hilarious. Confused
MyAnacondaMight · 06/03/2022 21:05

I get it. By 10pm I’m ready for a burger or something to soak up the booze.

Think of the wedding breakfast as an early dinner and not a late lunch. You have to find time (and a place - in the car if needed) for lunch beforehand - that’s not the hosts’ responsibility to sort out for you.

I also take snacks whenever possible. A little bag of nuts in my handbag if travelling light - or more substantial food in my overnight bag if staying at the venue.

WeBurnedSoBrightWeBurnedOut · 06/03/2022 21:05

I'm with you OP, the last wedding i went to, the portions were teeny. Couldn't wait for the buffet.

3Daddy31982 · 06/03/2022 21:10

It's a wedding breakfast as it's the first meal since your marriage. Its literally breaking (ending) the fast.

Ours was at 1pm. We had three courses and an evening buffet.

Genuinely not cricket to starve one's guests

PaperMonster · 06/03/2022 21:18

We had this and did late night chips in paper cones!

Davethecat2001 · 06/03/2022 21:19

Have a massive salad and you'll be reet Grin

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 06/03/2022 21:20

lol it never fails to amaze me the women on mn who exclusively only live on half a handful of trail mix a day and still get terribly bloated
I'm with you OP
Cake and cheese . If you can't afford to feed your guests well don't have a posh wedding

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 06/03/2022 21:22

I remember travelling a substantial distance on a Friday evening after I'd been at uni all day and being served one singular white roll contained one sliced sausage inside
No wedges or anything with them. Big posh hotel as well paid bar drinks about 60% of your pub mark up cost
