Wedding breakfast is at 4:30pm.

Evening food will be wedding cake and some cheese.

AIBU to think I am going to have to bring along a sandwich and some late night snacks?

OP posts:
needingpeace · 06/03/2022 19:23

Have a huge late lunch/brunch at about 2pm

Sunnierdays · 06/03/2022 19:23

If that’s your only worry at the moment I envy you !! Perhaps you should look at the wider world and stop being so self absorbed!!

BitOutOfPractice · 06/03/2022 19:26

Ah, there’s the real problem!

vincettenoir · 06/03/2022 19:32

YABU unless the ceremony starts at 11am or something.

Synchrony · 06/03/2022 19:33

Worst wedding I went to was one which was at 11.30am (so I didn't have lunch) and then the only food was cream tea (aka a scone and jam).

The couple weren't wealthy and I wouldn't have minded if I'd known in advance! But I didn't, and I was sooo hungry!

For me, would depend on the destination. Eg in France I'd expect "cheese" to mean substantial cheese, fruit, crackers etc. In the UK I'd probably go prepared, just in case, because it's impossible to tell from your description if I'd be hungry or not. I know for sure that I'd need a big breakfast to get to 4.30pm without any lunch.

For the sake of the rude pp, I do eat dessert most days. Yum.

bellac11 · 06/03/2022 19:36

Unless I read the OP wrong, I assumed this to be a lighthearted tongue in cheek thread about the vagaries of never knowing what sort of food you get at a wedding and not wanting to get giddy if you havent eaten enough

people seem to be taking it very seriously to the extent that there have been a number of food issue diagnoses and view that the OP shouldnt even have been invited!!

Mustreadabook · 06/03/2022 19:37

One wedding we went to has a cheese cake that is a cake made of theirs of cheese. All the guests stuffed themselves with cheese all night and we still didn’t manage to finish it. It was great.

Shouldbedoing · 06/03/2022 19:39

I'm going to stick up for @Aztecprint6 and say, what if the cake and cheese is a piece of cake and a piece of cheese, Yorkshire style? Pack some snacks, OP. Choc chip brioche/cereal bars are my usual back up

lap90 · 06/03/2022 19:44

You might... might not.

The evening guests might be a bit peckish though!

@Shouldbedoing And? So what if it is? Most people wouldn’t want any more than that following a wedding breakfast just a couple of hours before
Hankunamatata · 06/03/2022 19:45

@WorriedMillie

Shove a packet of quavers in your handbag and you’ll be reet!

I beg to differ. And when you're stuck in a hotel you can be very stuck.

WetLookKnitwear · 06/03/2022 19:49

I’d bring a snack in case. They should provide you with enough food though.

ThatsNotMyGolem · 06/03/2022 19:50

One of my rules in life is this:

Always take food to a wedding.

It has served me well.

SarahBellam · 06/03/2022 19:51

You’ll sit down about 4.30pm - it’s unlikely you’ll get food before 5pm and it could go on for a couple of hours. I once went to a wedding where there were 7 big courses and it went on for about 3 hours. I was almost weeping with pain at the amount of food I’d eaten. If someone had suggested cheese and cake at 9pm I’d have punched them.

@Shouldbedoing yeah and what’s the big deal? You might be a bit hungry at the end of the night but then you’ll be going to bed and going to sleep! Problem solved
Mushypeasandchipstogo · 06/03/2022 19:52

Can’t believe that so many think that YANBU! How much do you actually eat during one day? Couldn’t you just have a brunch at about 11am ? Your wedding breakfast would, no doubt, be substantial and go on until about 6.30pm . Would you then really be in need of cheese and cake later too? Taking snacks and sandwiches would be ridiculous!

Baconandmaplesyrup · 06/03/2022 19:53

It’s clearly not just going to be a block of cheese 😂 not least becayse the cheese is the most expensive part of cheese and crackers. They want people to fill up on the crackers.

Op. Just take food with you and put it in your room, and don’t stress, it means if you get hungry you can always go to your room and eat.

stevalnamechanger · 06/03/2022 19:53

My friend and I often take a secret collection of snacks to eat at weddings just incase . Often underfed and don't want to drink after a light meal

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 06/03/2022 19:56

What just cheese, Grommit!
No crackers?
I wouldn't call that 'evening food' would you Grommit?
[Grommit shakes his head silently and looks dispondent]

Donson · 06/03/2022 19:59

Um ..no.
The wedding breakfast will start at 4.30pm but will be a 3-4 course meal for probably about 2 hours, then cake and cheese later in the eve... why would you be ‘starving’?

Tatapie · 06/03/2022 20:00

@Fairislefandango

If you eat a decent-sized meal at 4:30 and then cheese (and biscuits/bread, presumably) and cake in the evening, I can't remotely see why you'd be starving. Just eat plenty of cheese and cake. They are pretty calorific, filling foods tbh.
Exactly, plus have a mega brunch in the morning, that's 3 meals!
Pebble55 · 06/03/2022 20:03

Just get drunk.

Actually, the more important question at weddings is will there be enough booze? If not take your own hip flask/six pack/bottle(s) of wine

mrsm43s · 06/03/2022 20:04

Bloody hell! I had a roast dinner at about 3pm, and thought I was set for the evening. I've been thinking too much about this thread, and now i need cheese and crackers!

RowanAlong · 06/03/2022 20:06

But you’ll have eaten a three course meal at 4.30, which you wouldn’t usually do, so there’s no way you’ll need dinner and pudding again at 7, surely?
