To think fcuk all is being done to combat climate change

getdown2021 · 06/03/2022 15:48

Most people don't seem to care and I rarely hear of it anymore despite being told months ago of the dire warnings. Aibu to think no action is being taken either by governments or by the average person?

@mummykel16 the models correlate very well with reality. Oh, and you will be getting a heat pump the gas is going to get switched off at some point.

harrumphs · 08/03/2022 17:42

@mummykel16 so are you saying that there is research that proves your point but you nor I can access it? Ok then, I'd be happy with you showing me evidence of that deadplaforming, the sackings etc. Because you must have read it somewhere on what I would hope is a credible source.
Because just saying "it's out there but no one can see it" really isn't convincing anywhere.
It's like antivaxxers who try to convince people that there has been research done to show that vaccines are dangerous or that they have killed thousands of people, but just shout "do your research!" When you ask them for actual proof.

woodhill · 08/03/2022 18:04

David Bellamy definitely complained at being dropped by the BBC because he wasn't convinced about Climate change at the time

Daftasabroom · 08/03/2022 18:18

@woodhill David Bellamy is not a climate scientist, one swallow does not a summer make, and he has since recanted.

woodhill · 08/03/2022 18:20

You make it sound like he was accused of witchcraft

Daftasabroom · 08/03/2022 18:27

Which are the kind of arguments deniers use TBH.

woodhill · 08/03/2022 18:31

Sure, I'm still not convinced

Like others I do what I can and try not to be wasteful, eat less meat l etc but I think it is being used as a stick to beat us with in the UK and tax people heavily

I really won't be getting one, I don't use gas anymore so they can turn it off for all I care

It's another money grab pure and simple. Watch skillbuilders comments on heat pumps and look at the price of them, then look at the kind of properties they are actually meant for, then look at who has heavily invested in them after fleeing the cladding sector.

I bet he has.

harrumphs · 08/03/2022 19:45

Btw David Bellamy died in 2019.
This is interesting

I recommend people watch Perfect Planet on iPlayer. It is, of course, stunningly done as it's by David Attenborough. But it also shows very clearly and heartbreakingly what is happening to our planet. The final episode "humans" is particularly hard to watch.

How much of it is fake this time duck?
harrumphs · 08/03/2022 21:00

@mummykel16 ok ok I get it. You think it's all a big conspiracy and there is no convincing you otherwise.
It just makes me so sad that we've reached such a privileged position that people can just chose to completely ignore / deny facts. But here we are.

Privileged position, jeez

I don't deny facts I have just yet to see them.

All the bleating about changing weather and worse summer/winter Wednesday ever, does nobody have a memory that goes back more than four years?

I really don't see what difference it makes wether I believe the agenda or not, when the real question should be "do I think the massive amounts of pollution in all its forms need sorting?"
Heat pumps though, that's just being silly.

Never mentioned conspiracy either, because it's just the usual greed.

Daftasabroom · 09/03/2022 09:00

@mummykel16 why are heat pumps "silly"?

Tulipomania · 09/03/2022 09:12

Mummykel Do you think that gas is less polluting than a heat pump?

Tulipomania · 09/03/2022 09:14

Or do you have family who work in the fossil fuels industry? That can often influence people's views.

mummykel16 · 09/03/2022 12:05

@Tulipomania

Mummykel Do you think that gas is less polluting than a heat pump?
I don't know over it's lifespan but I doubt it, the real difference being that gas works.
mummykel16 · 09/03/2022 12:07
@mummykel16 why are heat pumps "silly"?
I already said why in a prior reply.

mummykel16 · 09/03/2022 12:09

And good luck getting people who have no money already to buy a heat pump that unless your house is fantastically sealed won't work anyway, and I believe are expensive to run

mummykel16 · 09/03/2022 12:14

After a quick Google it looks like for a small house a heat pump uses about 12000 kWh py, no idea how much that costs.

Daftasabroom · 09/03/2022 12:40

@mummykel16 I suggest a longer Google. Our medium sized house only uses 4000kWhr.

Daftasabroom · 09/03/2022 12:46

@mummykel16 could you post a link to the 12000kWhr? I think you've made a mistake, 12000kWhr would be the output from the ASHP, the input would be 4000kWhr or less.
