How many house plants do you have?

I have 20 but I know people who have 80. How many house plants do you have and AIBU to say that having house plants is good for mental health and wellbeing?

  1. Peace lilies are really easy to keep alive for those of you that struggle! Only water them when the leaves droop. Leave well alone other than that!
itsnotdeep · 05/03/2022 22:15

I'm new to houseplants, and have about 15 I think (plus about 10 spiderbabies). I just got an aspidistra which I'm very excited about.

One of my peace lilies is also dying, but the other one is fine. Both on the same mantelpiece.

OutdoorType · 05/03/2022 22:31

None. I have a slightly weird phobic thing about having plants indoors!

ThisBloodyNoiseInMyHead · 05/03/2022 22:33
  1. An orchid (dead, I think) and a cactus. I can't be bothered to look after indoor plants but I do like a vase of flowers
SunscreenCentral · 05/03/2022 22:46

None. My ds has two. I've read recently that fake ones give you the same mental happiness as real ones so I think I will invest.

Kitkat151 · 05/03/2022 22:46

15

Proudboomer · 05/03/2022 22:47

I have 18 in the lounge and about another dozen dotted around elsewhere. I also have a heated Propagator on the kitchen windowsill with about 25 succulent babies in.

  1. I've had a spider plant since 2007. I do very little to maintain it, and it just refuses to die. I bought it from ikea and have repotted it twice

@MacraMee

26. Yes I do find looking after them good for my mental health. I love gardening so my houseplants get me through the winter months. Every Saturday morning they all get a shower and I like to potter around misting them and moving them around the house for optimum light. My username comes from my obsession with making plant hangers, its very therapeutic.
Can you possibly recommend a basic macrame plant hanger make? I've only ever made the very basic ones but I have loads to tshirt yarn & need at least 3 hangers.
DropYourSword · 06/03/2022 09:52

None. I could probably kill a plastic cactus!!

Lagarthatheviking · 06/03/2022 10:07

@thehighsandthelows

Trying to keep them alive is not good for mental health and wellbeing
This!
MintyGreenDream · 06/03/2022 10:16

None I've managed to kill unkillable Bamboo before

OldTinHat · 06/03/2022 10:17

Only two, both were gifts. I hate house plants and wish I could throw these away! 😬

wearewizardsofoz · 06/03/2022 10:45

7 real and 12 fake (In places they'll get forgotten ie kids rooms or lack of light as I live in a town house with no windows in corridor/landing areas)

DomesticatedZombie · 06/03/2022 11:08

I got DD to count. We got to 50 and I asked her to stop.

I think I have a plant problem.

CounsellorTroi · 06/03/2022 11:09

A basil from the supermarket on the kitchen windowsill and an amaryllis.

VenusClapTrap · 06/03/2022 11:25

Sixty odd in the house. Plus about fifty carnivorous plants in the greenhouse - mostly Venus Fly Traps.

ukborn · 06/03/2022 11:30

Five, but I currently have four vases of flowers (two of daffodils, one of tulips, and one mixed from my bouquet subscription).

singlepringlenotbychoice · 06/03/2022 11:39

None. I kill even the hardiest of plants, I even managed to see off a cactus, not sure how I managed that.

Newnamefor2022 · 06/03/2022 13:16

@DangerousMouse

About 3-400 Blush
Wow, that sounds glorious! Would you be happy to post pics? Flowers
Newnamefor2022 · 06/03/2022 13:16

2 but I do a lot of outdoor gardening.

deadlanguage · 06/03/2022 13:21
  1. I keep having problems with flies living in the soil(?) and having to ditch them.
Fernandina · 06/03/2022 15:59

@deadlanguage

5. I keep having problems with flies living in the soil(?) and having to ditch them.
They are called fungus gnats and are fairly easy to get rid of. There was a thread only the other day I think. You don't have to throw the plant away.
jay55 · 06/03/2022 15:59

Zero, I don't have any windowsills.

LovelyRita1 · 06/03/2022 16:02

None! I love them, but I'm allergic to a lot of plants. I get hay-fever beginning in March which lasts till September at least and I'm allergic to Christmas trees 🤦‍♀️

If anyone knows some idiot proof, allergen free plants, please tell me!
