I am shocked to read H&B is owned by Russians and the some Lush soaps are made in Russia will you boycott these stores ?

OP posts:
Birdy474 · 04/03/2022 14:56

Lush are fucking horrible anyway, over priced soap. Just use Dove or imperial leather etc, £1.00 from everywhere.

Marmelace · 04/03/2022 14:56

Do any of the Brits on here feel responsible for Blair taking us into war, think about that when you start demonising anything Russian

KittenKong · 04/03/2022 14:57

Lush have been on my ‘Nono’ list for a while now.

Unpopular37 · 04/03/2022 15:09

@Siameasy

Ditto. I was already boycotting Lush due to the potential to catch thrush from the products and H and B are so expensive it’s unreal
Thrush? Where is the research or science to prove this? I hate Luch with a passion, but can see no physiological reason for such products to cause thrush...
KittenKong · 04/03/2022 15:11

Itching is probably just the glitter on your flange.

DS liked it when he was little - he was once dyed purple (Little Blue anyone) with some stupid bath bomb so that was also a reason I stopped going there.

Their woman hating stance finished me off. Same with Body Shop.

CarlyJ91 · 04/03/2022 16:56

I get thrush using lush bath bombs.
No idea why but I do. Every single time I used them.

Made me very sad as I loved their products ☹️

FluffyBooBoo · 04/03/2022 17:02

@3littlerabbitsss

Run by Russians? Right. Do you have any Russian neighbours? Maybe next step would be to hound them out?
Only if, like the directors of h&b, they have direct links to Putin...
MilkWasABadChoice · 04/03/2022 17:17

Run by Russians = H&B is owned by an investment firm called LetterOne. LetterOne is just under 50% owned by two Russian billionaires, both now the target of EU sanctions.

They have both resigned from the board and been frozen out.

So yes it has links to Putin-linked oligarchs, but those links are now broken.

Feel free to boycott it because it sells overpriced crap including homeopathic nonsense, though! :-)

MilkWasABadChoice · 04/03/2022 17:20

H&B also, if you care, has a huge huge pile of expensive debt due to be repaid in 2024.

So there’s some question about what happens next for the company. It did well during lock down as it was deemed essential (!) but not doing so well now. Wouldn’t be surprised if some of their stores close.

stimpyyouidiot · 04/03/2022 17:25

Never shop there anyway.

SarahBellam · 04/03/2022 17:27

I've been boycotting them for years.

KitBumbleB · 04/03/2022 17:36

A migraine from walking past Lush? Thats nothing, I once heard there was one in town and I collapsed on the spot!

Honestly.... what are you expecting? Putin to pull back because Mandy from Shropshire has stopped buying Snow Angel?

KittenKong · 04/03/2022 17:47

No but people can choose which shops they want to support.

Lush dump on women and were recently offering a binder pick up service to girls from their store in Paddington station (so ideal for girls on shopping trips to London with their pals to stop by to collect their brown paper bags from under the counter - so your parents don’t see). I wouldn’t give them a penny.

DixonD · 04/03/2022 17:49

Russians are not the problem- it’s their leader.

YABU.

Spottybluepyjamas · 04/03/2022 20:00

I boycott Lush anyway since they started selling breast binders to girls with no age limit, and without parental consent or knowledge

Alconleigh · 04/03/2022 20:08

As many PP said, Lush hate women (actual women) so I don't buy from them anyway. But the sentiment behind this is definitely questionable.

bellac11 · 04/03/2022 20:15

I love Lush but cant afford to shop there, lovely stuff though, makes the bathroom smell great

What is gynophobia?

They're a long term UK company, I remember them when they were the previous named company even though I cant remember their actual name?!

Ormally · 04/03/2022 20:40

It was Cosmetics To Go.

The original factory was in Poole and still is, but a lot of their raw materials are sourced from all over the world and there are now a couple of factories abroad running on the same kind of lines to be closer to overseas markets. There was an interview that suggested 'The Factory' (and workers) would move to Germany after Brexit because of so many Lush EU workers having better prospects and welcome there. I don't know if that is actually under consideration now. I would be fairly sure that quite a few workers (in the UK factory and stores) will be from Russia, Ukraine, and countries close by. These are not the people to punish.

An earlier poster is right, there will be many industries - e.g. the power industry - and funds like pension funds that didn't just drop all their investments within days (and won't now be able to sell them anyway). Is there something positive that can be done for people at the sharp end of this, rather than waving a bargepole about?

KindlyKanga · 04/03/2022 20:56

It's confusing to know what is best to do is there a list somewhere.

deragod · 04/03/2022 21:11

Putin has backup of more than 60% of Russian society. Children are being send to prisons, 'misinformation about Russian Army' is going to be 15years imprisonment.

No, it's nothing like Blair's Britain.

KittenKong · 04/03/2022 21:25

The new misinformation law (with the 15 year tariff) was passed unilaterally by parliament. That’s every single one of them.

bedheadedzombie · 04/03/2022 21:35

@FrodoAteMyRing

RUSSIANS ARE NOT PUTIN! I know this is hard to grasp for some who also believe the UK can do know wrong and is oh so different in their own invading countries (to this day) Hmm
So what is your proposal to make the russians miserable enough to end the regime?

It's not just Putin. If it was all these generals, soldiers, journalists, camera men et cetera simply wouldn't listen to him and do what he asks.

YouSetTheTone · 04/03/2022 22:06

I boycott Lush anyway because of their stance on women’s rights and child safeguarding.
There are reports of Ukrainian women being raped by Russian soldiers. People always know who women are in a war zone don’t they… Will Lush stand by these women? Will they recognise that women need to remain defined as adult human females in language and law?
Like hell they will.

Plantstrees · 04/03/2022 22:23

www.retail-week.com/health-and-beauty/holland-and-barrett-russian-oligarch-backers-stand-down-from-investor-board-following-sanctions/7041445.article?authent=1

Although they have 'stepped down' from the board, the oligarchs still own the company and will eventually take the profits so they wont be getting my business.

Never liked Lush anyway.

Fairislefandango · 04/03/2022 22:36

Lush are a British company. China have been doingverycontroversial things for years but do you boycott everything made in China? Good luck with that.

^This. I already boycott Lush (even though I really like their products) for the various other reasons already posted. But not because they have Russian links. Russians aren't evil.
