I am shocked to read H&B is owned by Russians and the some Lush soaps are made in Russia will you boycott these stores ?

OP posts:
3peassuit · 04/03/2022 11:24

I don’t frequent Lush as I find the fragrance in their shops overpowering. H and B only seem to sell overpriced and largely unnecessary food supplements. These are my reasons for not patronising their establishments, nothing to do with the nationality of the owners.

Viviennemary · 04/03/2022 11:26

I was shocked at H&B. They sell themselves as such a wholesome sort of company. Hmm

Bringinglightandpeace · 04/03/2022 11:30

Why would you boycott Lush for being a Russian company? If anything, boycott establishments which are highly linked to Punto. Your being ridiculous- you may as well boycott anything to do with Russians.

notacooldad · 04/03/2022 11:37

I boycott them by default!
Lush because my nose starts itching just walking past the shop and H&B as it has evolved into a supplements store rather than whole foods and slightly alternative foods as it used to be.

VelvetChairGirl · 04/03/2022 11:39

I already boycott Lush for there gynophobia and I dont buy at the other place they have been over priced for years.

used to buy stuff in H&B in the 90s but not for a very very long time.

NameGoesHere · 04/03/2022 11:41

Can’t stand Lush…refuse to shop there already.

Suzi888 · 04/03/2022 11:43

@3littlerabbitsss

Run by Russians? Right. Do you have any Russian neighbours? Maybe next step would be to hound them out?
^No.

Why are there so many posts about boycotting shops. Confused
Who works for these companies? If you did, would you quit?
No of course not.

Don’t be so ridiculous.

Maxxxie · 04/03/2022 11:45

Lush (or Thrush as I call them) are awful anyways. And HB are over priced.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 04/03/2022 11:58

Of course not! Just because putin is an utter twonkleberry. It doesn't mean we should tarnish every single Russian with the same brush by boycotting stores or refusing to by other products made in Russia. There's going to many innocent people in Russia suffering because of this as well

VelvetChairGirl · 04/03/2022 12:02

Hay if we are boycotting Russian owned things can everyone please boycott the Tory party, how much Russian money has been donated to keep that afloat?

Hedgecog · 04/03/2022 12:05

@betwixtlives

how are these threads allowed? pure stupidity to equate anything Russian with evil. Absolute idiotic ignorance
I agree, surprised they let it stand.
betwixtlives · 04/03/2022 12:56

@Hedgecog I reported it and they said they’re ‘looking into it’ but clearly aren’t @mnhq

TellMeMoreHellebore · 04/03/2022 12:59

I'd be disappointed in MNHQ if they ban threads on this

It's trade and business related. It filters down to mumsnet and becomes all about punishing the Russian people! It's not

TabithaTittlemouse · 04/03/2022 13:15

Why would people boycott Russian companies/companies that make things in Russia? @abigailsnan?

TabithaHazel · 04/03/2022 13:16

@FrodoAteMyRing

RUSSIANS ARE NOT PUTIN! I know this is hard to grasp for some who also believe the UK can do know wrong and is oh so different in their own invading countries (to this day) Hmm
Yes but the point is if the oligarchs start losing money they might put pressure on Putin to pull back a bit. Is that something hard for you to grasp?
Somethingsnappy · 04/03/2022 13:24

Well, my best friend is Russian, so unless I'm planning to boycott her too, I'll continue to use those stores occasionally as normal. I have no problem with the Russian people. I feel for them, with a leader like that.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 04/03/2022 13:33

I'm a regular customer of lush and I won't be boycotting, they're a British company from Poole and the vast amount of products are made there.

TabithaHazel · 04/03/2022 13:35

Is your friend an oligarch who has influence with Putin? If not then it's not really relevant to why people might be boycotting oligarch owned businesses. I don't think anyone on this thread has any kind of problem with Russian people in general.
VelvetChairGirl · 04/03/2022 13:54

he gave them power I doubt they can put pressure on him for anything, they are rich because he let them get rich.

GreenPepperRed · 04/03/2022 14:01

Lush are a British company. China have been doing very controversial things for years but do you boycott everything made in China? Good luck with that.

Reporting this dumbass thread.

ThinWomansBrain · 04/03/2022 14:20

Lush were very supportive of a campaign to free a fiend kidnapped and held by the Ethiopian govt a few years ago (now free) , and a small charity that I volunteer with - I do think that they are a fairly ethical organisation.

My understanding is that the russian plant is to manufacture stock for sale in Russia - hopefully they will close that soon.

I don't think they'd notice me boycotting them - the only product I use is "ultrabland" - probably the only one that doesn't stink, and a tub lasts for over a year.

ThinWomansBrain · 04/03/2022 14:23

friend, not fiend

DuesToTheDirt · 04/03/2022 14:47

This is getting ridiculous. My boss is Russian, should I quit my job in protest?

Somethingsnappy · 04/03/2022 14:52

@TabithaHazel. Not really relevant? I beg to differ. The OP talks about some Lush products being made in Russia. No mention of oligarchs there, unless I'm missing something.

Marmelace · 04/03/2022 14:53

Don't shop in either anyway, I'll be fooked if it's Amazon though.
