Used to be a stand up comic and actor, and was the voice of Paddington bear when Ukraine dubbed the film!

What good things have made your jaw drop recently?

@Polyanthus2

Today Putin was shown discussing goodness knows what with a load of Aeroflot air stewards - all female. What the hell. He's nuts.

Someone said that he has possibly been taking steroids and it has affected his brain - I know you aren't supposed to take them long term and he has a puffy look to his face.

But I wonder if those at the top in Russia (who must have a good idea what is going on and not be blinded by Putin's lies) are going to sit by whilst Putin pushes the nuclear button - because you can be pretty sure that the US will have more of them and better aimed ones. I think the US has some sort of shield. And with much of the western world against this war it won't just be the US who strikes Russia.

Are his side kicks really just going to stand by and wait for the blinding flash to annihialate them

The man has balls of steel

@Buzzinwithbez

I wonder if the mothers of 18 year old boys who have been not allowed to leave think he is hot.
@Buzzinwithbez

Most countries with conscription do not allow those who are eligibile for conscription to just leave the country without permission.
Since Ukraine is in all-out war and all (in this case) men of working age can be conscripted, it makes sense they wouldn't be allowed to leave.
It is very sad and I would be horrified for my own children too but it's not a crazy or outlandish thing to do in the circumstances.

Servant of the People is on Channel 4 tonight at 10.30

Ponchek · 07/03/2022 09:57

Well he has just delivered his most extraordinary speech yet, which made me cry with pity and admiration.

Whatever happens, thank God for such a person as him. And all those Ukrainian soldiers carrying babies and protecting their people as best they can.

Indeed. Every speech he gives is stronger than the last. Incredible.

This is a transcript of today's speech.

blueshoes · 07/03/2022 18:05

thepiratequeen that transcript brought tears to my eyes.

Velensky has an impossible decision to make - whether to give in to Russia's demands now so as to end the slaughter and evacuation of his people. His speech makes it seem he is not going to budge. I hope he does not because I feel that Russia is at the tipping point but god save the people of Ukraine.

DappledThings · 07/03/2022 18:11

www.instagram.com/zelenskiy_official/?hl=en has the speeches from every day. They have started appearing twice; the second one a few hours later with subtitles. Today's has subtitles on the one version available.

FangsForTheMemory · 07/03/2022 18:14

I hope he's not because after Ukraine, it's Moldova, Georgia, Poland, the Baltic states. Putin will not stop.

@thepiratequeen thank you!

I don’t know whether he has compromised his ideals as much as most politicians, he probably has, and I’m sure he’s as flawed/corrupted as some, but he’s a brave man.
And he really is showing leadership. The Queen maybe is this devoted to duty but I cannot imagine Johnson, Raab, Patel, Reese-Mogg et al wandering the carpark presumably potentially exposed to snipers, exhausted and unshaven, trying to reassure people.
