Used to be a stand up comic and actor, and was the voice of Paddington bear when Ukraine dubbed the film!

What good things have made your jaw drop recently?

There isn't loads of disinformation in the UK media. There's bias, sure, but it's very unusual for there to be outright lies.

There's been plenty of reports in The Guardian, the FT and other broadsheets about this bloke's offshore activities. His anti corruption stance is similar to Putin in that he uses it to denounce his rivals and concentrate state power in his own hands. He sacked his own speaker when the guy spoke out about it. His main backer's luxury yacht has just docked in Montenegro.

Thanks for joining Mumsnet today with the express purpose of re-educating anyone who thinks the president of Ukraine is a good guy.

Your opinion is important to us. xx

I guess The Guardian journalists are Russian bots?

JuliaSways · 05/03/2022 00:59

Yes, I'm all for actual facts about him. Please link to a reputable source and I will happily read and digest the information.

New accounts on Mumsnet telling me he's corrupt.... I'm going to take it with a pinch of salt for now. I'm not for one second prepared to believe any political figure is holier than thou, but I need some reputable sources giving me info that I can trust. Google isn't helping, I've tried.

BookkeeperBobby · 05/03/2022 00:59

And The Washington Post?

Of course, that completely unbiased publication called The Guardian.

BookkeeperBobby · 05/03/2022 01:00

Seriously there is plenty out there about him. It's just that a lot of people in the UK weren't paying attention to Ukraine at the time.

You're the only person mentioning Russian bots.

Again, thanks for joining MN after midnight on a Friday night to educate us all about the shady back-story of the President of Ukraine.

Mad Vlad (as I heard him called on the BBC about 25 years ago) is clearly a finer man.

Actually a lot of the reporting indicates similarities to Putin and other Russian big names that seem to be up to the same. Including those commie fools at the BBC:

JuliaSways · 05/03/2022 01:07

Yes, he's clearly as bad as Putin. Deserves everything the Russians are throwing at his country.

BookkeeperBobby · 05/03/2022 01:08

[\shrug]

You wanted reputable sources.

Admittedly mine aren't in the same league as posters on Mumsnet chatting about Paddington but there they are nevertheless if you wish to read them.

Again, thanks for joining Mumsnet tonight to educate us all about the shady back-story of the President of Ukraine and to tell us about a BBC story from last year.

I read them.

I'll take him over Putin in the unlawful invasion of the Ukraine though, thanks for your input.

JuliaSways · 05/03/2022 01:11

Putin is basically Hitler. Hardly comparable to Zelensky cooking the books.

BookkeeperBobby · 05/03/2022 01:12

Nobody deserves war. But Ukraine has been a mess for a long time.

JuliaSways · 05/03/2022 01:13

Oh that's OK then, totally justifies the unlawful invasion by a dictator.

Thank god you're here to explain it all to us.

Meltinthemiddle · 05/03/2022 01:16

He really is incredibly brave and very sexy! I'm just in awe of him as a leader to be honest. What a guy just so genuine and passionate.

JuliaSways · 05/03/2022 01:16

I love that Russian sympathisers have bothered to come on to our little corner of the net to convince us that :Ukraine bad. Russia good.

BookkeeperBobby · 05/03/2022 01:16

I'll take him over Putin

Why 'take' either of them? Their power struggle is getting people killed.

JuliaSways · 05/03/2022 01:18

Because Putin is this generation's Hitler. He won't be stopping with at Ukraine.

Anyway, you're boring me now. Consider yourself ignored.

BookkeeperBobby · 05/03/2022 01:22

I think he's more like this generation's Kaiser Bill and Zelensky is its Ferdinand. Just substitute royalty for oligarchy.

Niahm · 05/03/2022 01:28

@GlitterSquid

Fred Dibnah laddering a chimney. Absolutely unbelievable. What a guy.
What did he actually do? I used to live a few doors down from his house and never understood why everybody always commented on it
RoseRedRoseBlue · 05/03/2022 01:32

There are some right plums on these threads tonight.

blueshoes · 05/03/2022 01:36

The Afghan president melted away and abandoned his people to live on his wealth when the West pulled out.

The Ukraine president is holed up somewhere at constant risk of assassination defending and keeping the morale and fighting spirit of his nation up and rallying the civilised world against the aggressor Russia and doing a darn good job of it. Many times I did not expect him to survive the night.

Could anyone be more inspirational. If he was truly corrupt, why do this when he could just retire to his mansion for a life in comfortable exile.
