Somehow my mobile has been added to a list…. Loads of unwanted calls but these fuckers have rung me four times this morning and eventually I’ve answered (by mistake thinking it was school) and when I’ve said I don’t want to receive cold calls the guy said ‘fuck you - go and fuck yourself and your mother can go and fuck herself…..

I’m already on the telephone preference and I will block the number but feel a bit violated - when I googled the number I couldn’t find anything on the company but loads of others have logged it as a harassment call - do I log it with police or is that over egging?

Also to add - I was not arsey and I didn’t swear - I just said I wanted my number removed and he was shouting ‘30 seconds survey’ but when I wouldn’t answer his questions about whether I own my home he started to swear

This won't be the right number as I get a lot of calls from mobile numbers like this that seem ti be able to hack numbers to make people answer.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/03/2022 11:15

Just block and forget it

If it’s any comfort it’s probably a guy at the end of his rope..

Hexagonmum · 01/03/2022 11:15

That's just awful, sorry you had to go through that.

I've also received loads of cold calls from life insurance etc...and what I've done has worked so far...When they ask for me i ask whose calling and when they say it's so and so from a life insurance company I act all happy and say Ive been waiting for your call as my aunt died and I'm her niece, can you please let me know how much her life insurance payout will be?? They then apologise and condolences and never call again.

I've had no calls since, you can tell them you want to be taken off their list but they never listen so I had to use harsher unorthodox measures.

TheMullerLightOwl · 01/03/2022 11:21

One thing that I've found has worked really well is saying "per GDPR I do not consent to you contacting me and you will be breaking the law if you call me again"
Haven't had the same people call me again after doing that

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 01/03/2022 11:24

blow a whistle down the phone

Whatamesssss · 01/03/2022 11:25

I bought a loud whistle, they never call twice.

I do similar to this. Back in the day I obviously gave away a lot of details. They always have me living at an address I moved from over 10 years so I ask where they got my information as it was obviously prior to me opting in and GDPR. Sometimes they tell me they will remove me from the list. Sometimes they say the call is in line with GDPR. It's all a load of bollocks and apart from report them, you can't do much.

Don't go to the police. They don't deal with much and this is way to small for them to waste their time on.

dfendyr · 01/03/2022 11:30

block and move on

police wont do anything, what do you think they could do? Not being funny, but they dont have the resources to look up numbers

that only works on reputable cold callers

If I'm my name is Dave and I am calling from 'microsoft because you have a problem on your computer' do you think I give a shit about GDPR?

WellTidy · 01/03/2022 11:34

I had a cold call from someone saying he was with Virgin (we are with Virgin which is why I started to listen) and it then quickly became apparent that he was trying it on. I said something along the lines of ‘it’s my husband who sorts out the broadband and I am pretty sure that he hasn’t asked for this [service you are trying to sell]’ and the guy told me that I was an arsehole and that my husband was a ‘very arsehole indeed’

Block it and forget it. It’s a Glasgow number and if you look it up on who-called.co.uk it seems you’re not the only one to g by e targeted by these charmers.

VelvetChairGirl · 01/03/2022 11:39

just breath heavily down the phone and dont say anything

MrsDamonSalvatore · 01/03/2022 11:42

I don’t think it’s a police matter, but you can log the number on various sites like ‘who called me’ so people can see what kind of number it is and block it.

QueenoftheNimbleFlyingCat · 01/03/2022 11:42

I once got told that he was going to rape me and he knew where I lived when I refused to participate.

emmathedilemma · 01/03/2022 11:44

oh I'm sick of those "30 second survey" calls, they've become the new PPI pest calls! One rang my landline last week at 8:20am on a Saturday - they got an earfull!! The problem with blocking them is that they always come through as a slightly different number and often a "local" number despite them clearly being in a call centre in India.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 01/03/2022 11:45

It's appalling that our government and phone industry refuses to address this issue.

TabithaTittlemouse · 01/03/2022 11:46

Sing to them. In your best voice. They usually like Celine Dion.

Lol. Let's have some perspective here. Russia invading Ukraine is "Just Awful".

This is an inconvenience.

StormyWindow · 01/03/2022 11:46

Once I've ascertained I don't actually want/need to speak to them I just put the phone down and block the number, waste of time trying to tell them anything and at least it doesn't give them chance to become abusive. Not nice OP but nothing much you can do other than block them.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 01/03/2022 11:49

Say please hold the line. Your call is important. Then leave the phone next to music/annoying radio channel & walk away. Waste their time & money.
Block when they've hung up.

saleorbouy · 01/03/2022 11:52

I just tell them to hang on the kids are in the bath. Put the phone down on the side and leave it for a few minutes, they're never there when I pick up again. Grin

0141 is a Glasgow number, that's true.

But cold callers of the "have you been in an accident which wasn't your fault" variety, or of the "microsoft/bt/amazon helpdesk" variety regularly spoof numbers.

So it might look like you're being called by someone in Glasgow. They could equally likely be in Birmingham, or Mumbai, or Lagos.
