To go back to hairdresser and say this isn't ok?

Whathefrick · 28/02/2022 21:06

This is the picture I showed her. My hair was a bronde balayage but grown out for a good 8 months so the top half was quite dark and the bottom was very blonde. She said that she would do a dark root melt and then bring some blonde up to the top but that she would also add some lowlights to add dimension like ok the picture

So what the fuckety fuck has she done to my hair? I was very clearly not happy I was holding back tears but just wanted to get out of there. This isn't good enough though right?

Yes! And if it's 'impossible' to achieve then the hairdresser should explain that and suggest something else, not just slap paint-by-numbers highlights on and leave you looking like it's 2002.

Pics when it's fixed please!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/03/2022 14:10

I don’t have hair anymore but I’ll keep it in mind should it ever grow back, thanks.

Thing is, you can’t just post a snarky comment with no explanation, and then say “oh I’ve no longer got hair”. That’s springing a trap for someone. If you’d said “I’ve no longer got hair, I have had treatment for cancer/ have got alopecia (whichever is the case), so I’d give anything to be in your shoes”, people would take the point on board.

OP - I can see it’s not the same as what you asked for. Go back and ask them to do it again/ put it right.

whoruntheworldgirls · 01/03/2022 14:12

Good luck OP!

I've no idea which is the before or after pic so cannot comment
It's quite clear if you can read. Why be so rude?
SNUG2022 · 01/03/2022 14:23

Good luck! I was going to advise getting money back but not letting her touch it again. Fingers crossed 🤞

FateHasRedesignedMost · 01/03/2022 14:25

Your hair looks much finer and wispier than the hair in the photo you showed her, I don’t think she could get it looking the same without extensions.

The model’s hair has been styled, waved and probably touched up with high gloss products. She may also have had bleach and Olaplex added and probably paid a lot to have that sort of hand painted balayage.

Even if the tone, colour and distribution of blonde/brown were the same, it would never look like the model’s as the texture, cut and density is completely different.

A good hairdresser could easily do what the OP is asking for, a mediocre hairdresser will never get it right because they don’t take the time and effort required to continue their training after qualifying.

Good luck OP, although I hope you haven’t gone back to the original colourist.

Well you're a bit thick then aren't you. Maybe the glam model posed gives a tiny insight into which is the Inspo photo and the OP in her jumper on her sofa lets you know which one is the real person. Just a wild guess Hmm
Imabouttoexplode · 01/03/2022 14:49

@Whathefrick

I've been hear 3 hours already! There's a lot of bleach involved Blush
Oooooo, fingers crossed then. There's always a lot of bleach involved. You can't achieve change without it! Hope it turns out well 💇‍♀️🤞
Silversprinkles · 01/03/2022 14:50

I agree I wouldn't be happy with that OP. It's more 90s All Saints chunky lights than balayage. And red tones! I'd definitely ask for a correction or a refund.

Gonnagetgoing · 01/03/2022 14:53

@Heytheredemons

I think your hair looks lovely. What you also need to remember is that most of those pictures like you showed your hairdresser are photoshoped and edited. Everyone also has unique base tones on their hair, so you can do an identical colour on 2 people and get very different results. Anyway, your hair looks lovely and a great colour coming into spring and summer. You are within your rights to complain, but I think they may not be interested as there's nothing wrong with it.
@Heytheredemons - not necessarily. I've known very good hairdressers post photos like this with no or very few photoshops or edits.

If it's styled then yes it always looks nicer at the beginning but OP's hair looks nothing like the photo!

Hope you get it fixed OP.

Whathefrick · 01/03/2022 14:56

I came in this morning just to talk to the hairdresser, the one from yesterday wasn't in and the manager was which is hopefully for the best. I was worried about being awkward but the manager took one look and said she'd do it then and there as they'd had a cancellation and she didn't want me leaving like that.

I paid a lot for a balayage and olaplex too, I didn't expect my hair to be magically thicker no but the colours looked nothing like the photo. I walked in with blonde hair and walked out with pink orange hair! Thankfully the manager agreed it's not acceptable and is fixing it. To be honest this is the worst/thinnest my hair has ever looked it wasn't a good cut or colour. Normally it looks thicker after a hair cut!!

Ooh glad you're getting it fixed OP, it wasn't terrible but you've paid for a service and walked out unhappy so there's no reason not to say so.

Whathefrick · 01/03/2022 15:02

It's been a mix of foils and hand painting today. The root melt was done as I expected unlike yesterday. They are alternating toner now to add dimension or something (rather than dying my hair orange again - I hope) Have the last of the toners on now. Nervous!

WorkHardPlayHard1 · 01/03/2022 15:05

Honestly think it looks nice. The chunkier blonde streak can be split when you make it wavy like the original pic. I like the depth of the mix of colours but am no expert in hairdressing just that it looks good to me x

ClemFandangoo · 01/03/2022 15:06

Fingers crossed sounds like it’s being done correctly now Smile

TarcasticSwat · 01/03/2022 15:07

Glad you're getting it fixed and I seriously can't understand the previous comments saying it looks good. The colour is all wrong. Your hair looked much better before their work, you are correct! They left you with those horrible 00's badger highlights and with a red tinge, the blonde should predominantly be along the tips and worked up and they are just chunky strips through your hair with that horrible pink/red!

Hopefully they correct your hair for you OP!

Roselilly36 · 01/03/2022 15:09

Well done for going back, I hope you are happy with it OP.

KStockHERO · 01/03/2022 15:11

I'm really, really, really proud of you for going back OP. That took guts. Seriously, kudos and well done.

I'm so excited to see the end result.

grlwhowrites · 01/03/2022 15:14

I completely see where you're coming from, it looks like you've got 90s stripy streaks as opposed to a blended balayage. It doesn't look bad but it doesn't look like what you wanted. This happened to me the last time I went for a top up after a good few months and my hairdresser always gets my hair spot on but I felt like I'd been transported back to my teenage years with chunky bumblebee stripes! Yours is nowhere near as bad as mine was but it's not what you asked for - maybe all the covid closures have got some hairdressers out of practise?
If you're upset, just call and be honest. You've paid for a service and we all know it's not cheap. Just tell the hairdresser it's upset you and you'd like them to rectify it for you. Mine was fixed with an additional root melt, then a toner to bring down the harshness of the streaks. It ended up looking like a honey blonde balayage, which is what I wanted. It'll continue to upset you if you don't say something and it's not unreasonable to go back and get what you paid for.

grlwhowrites · 01/03/2022 15:16

Sorry, just seen you went back for it to be fixed in your updates, good for you! Looking forward to seeing the end result and really hope you're happy with it. Well done for going back.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/03/2022 15:29

I can't wait to see the reveal pictures after this!

I hope the manager has a quiet word with her stylist/colourist after this so that no one else has to go out disappointed after an appointment!

Cantleave · 01/03/2022 15:30

I didn’t like the way your hair looked after yesterday. You were definitely right to go back and complain, and the manager obviously agreed, when she said she would redo it there and then. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

ScreamingSauvignon · 01/03/2022 15:36

The professional pic you used is a very common one handed to colourists. In my experience only the talented few can achieve it, plus there is a really good blow dry and professional photo involved.

Good luck, hope you are now happy.
