To go back to hairdresser and say this isn't ok?

Whathefrick · 28/02/2022 21:06

This is the picture I showed her. My hair was a bronde balayage but grown out for a good 8 months so the top half was quite dark and the bottom was very blonde. She said that she would do a dark root melt and then bring some blonde up to the top but that she would also add some lowlights to add dimension like ok the picture

So what the fuckety fuck has she done to my hair? I was very clearly not happy I was holding back tears but just wanted to get out of there. This isn't good enough though right?

@crazycatgal

I keep reading the comments saying the hairdresser has done a good job and checking back to the pictures wondering if something has gone wrong with my eyesight.

I can absolutely see why you are not happy. The brown/auburn colour is very wishy washy and there are streaky blonde highlights at the top of your hair. Not what you asked for at all.

Me too, it's very weird.

It's obvious which is the op and which is the model. I don't know how much it cost (should cost a lot), but that is not good.

ChampagneLassie · 01/03/2022 08:53

I think all the comments prove the subjectivity of this. You're nit happy, go back and have a chat. I had a very similar experience once, I couldn't face going back there. It was my longterm hairdressers too, that was end of that

Mollysocks · 01/03/2022 08:53

I don’t think it’s bad OP but there are some highlights in there that I feel are a little too blocky. I wouldn’t be happy but then I rarely am leaving the hairdressers.

starfishmummy · 01/03/2022 08:54

It's a bit stripey but then so is the picture you used. Yours also looks like it needs a good cut and maybe will Improve if actually styled.

burnoutbabe · 01/03/2022 08:57

Is in fact bablylage just a weird fad that can only be done by very high end salons by only a few people? And only looks good in the styled photos with the curls in exact right place (and hard to recreate at home)

Seems like most places should not even offer it as it's never going to look like the model pics.

fleurpots · 01/03/2022 09:04

I think it looks nice, but admittedly not what you asked for. If you don't have the confidence to go back, go somewhere different to get it covered up as if you're really upset about it it will just make you feel rubbish!

Londontown12 · 01/03/2022 09:07

It’s the red I can see it !! Use a toner with a green base an ash that should sort the problem but it’s only temporary! I think she has used a warm low light where and ash probably would have been better xxx

Gonnagetgoing · 01/03/2022 09:50

I agree with you it doesn't look right. Your original hair does look better and it's nothing like the balyage pic.

However I also agree with other posters that balyage isn't cheap so if you pay a cheaper price they'll try to do similar but not the same.

When I've had balyage (I don't really like it) it's come out well. Either you go back and they may ask you to pay more or you get a partial refund.

No. It is a harder technique than foils, and hairdressers should have specific training in balayage if they are going to be offering it. But, it absolutely does not need to be curled to look good. A well-done balayage should work on straight hair too. If you Google "straight hair balayage" you can see that.

Frauhubert · 01/03/2022 10:11

It looks like a work of a village pet groomer working from her garden shed in the 90’s. You must go back and complain.

KylieCharlene · 01/03/2022 10:29

Was this the work of a salon OP or was it the work of some kind of own business working from home cowboy?
How much did you pay?

diddl · 01/03/2022 10:53

I quite like the colourings on the first pic, although I can see that it's too red compared to the pic that you took in.

The 2nd pic doesn't seem to match the first!

What does it look like from the back?

PigeonLittle · 01/03/2022 11:02

Your hair before you went was much nicer! So sorry, it looks like bad 90s highlights.

TheDuchessOfMN · 01/03/2022 11:07

It’s not awful, but it’s not what you asked for.

I can see red, and one streak of blonde is too wide (not sure how else to describe it).
It’s the blending that’s wrong.

I’m sure it can be corrected

catscatscatseverywhere · 01/03/2022 11:28

It's very poorly done. If you're confident enough, go and tell her, maybe she can do something about it.

Ivyonafence · 01/03/2022 11:42

They've done a bad job. The blending is non existent, it's all kind of pinkish (unless that's your camera). I don't think it's good enough and it's not like the photo.

Would you feel comfortable returning and asking for it to be rectified?

What did you pay for this?

Heytheredemons · 01/03/2022 12:03

I think your hair looks lovely. What you also need to remember is that most of those pictures like you showed your hairdresser are photoshoped and edited.

Everyone also has unique base tones on their hair, so you can do an identical colour on 2 people and get very different results.
Anyway, your hair looks lovely and a great colour coming into spring and summer. You are within your rights to complain, but I think they may not be interested as there's nothing wrong with it.

SlashBeef · 01/03/2022 12:08

Yanbu I can see what you mean. It's very harsh looking and a bit year 2000. Please go back. I know it's so hard when you just feel you have to smile and pretend you love it but she can't improve it if you don't give her a chance. I don't really know about hair but it's probably fixable.

LittleGwyneth · 01/03/2022 13:21

What on earth are people seeing that they think looks good?! It's WAY too chunky. I wouldn't pay for that. It 100% looked better before.

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 01/03/2022 13:32

OP - YANBU. At all.

I know! OP your hair looked much better before you had this done. What you've ended up with is dated, horribly done and not a nice colour. For those saying it's impossible to get it like the picture, it really isn't, I used to have my hair done exactly like that! I didn't have extensions or special styling either, just a nice blow dry. I have naturally very dark hair but my hairdresser managed to get it like that without any red or orange tones. It was expensive but very possible!
Whathefrick · 01/03/2022 13:43

Being fixed as we speak. Wish me luck Blush
