To go back to hairdresser and say this isn't ok?

Whathefrick · 28/02/2022 21:06

This is the picture I showed her. My hair was a bronde balayage but grown out for a good 8 months so the top half was quite dark and the bottom was very blonde. She said that she would do a dark root melt and then bring some blonde up to the top but that she would also add some lowlights to add dimension like ok the picture

So what the fuckety fuck has she done to my hair? I was very clearly not happy I was holding back tears but just wanted to get out of there. This isn't good enough though right?

It doesn’t look awful at all - it just looks like traditional highlights.

Go back, but unless there is someone there who can actually do what you want, there’s no point asking them to re-do it. See if you can get a refund or vouchers if they have a beauty salon attached.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/02/2022 23:12

@Aubrrgin

I was holding back tears

Here’s a grip for you.

@Aubrrgin

I’m guessing the OP paid a lot of money for this. They didn’t do what she asked. She’s going to have to pay a lot of money again for someone else to fix it, and bugger her hair up a bit by over processing.

There’s nothing wrong with being upset about this.

CourtRand · 28/02/2022 23:13

The colour is the same ish just looks greasy and terribly styled tbh

bluebell34567 · 28/02/2022 23:16

op, they dont look they are experienced in coloring hair. i wouldnt go to them again.

tkwal · 28/02/2022 23:16

Your hair looks lovely to me and would probably look even better with a good blow dry and some volumising mousse etc BUT it's not what you wanted so yes, you should complain and see if they are willing to make amends. Far too many of us do what you have done and leave feeling less than happy , take a deep breath and a firm but polite approach and ask for something much closer to the original pic

groeggmeg · 28/02/2022 23:19

I really like the colour she’s achieved. You don’t have the same hair as the model, hers looks very thick- likely extensions and heavily styled. I used to always take photos of hair to a salon but stopped as I realised it was the thickness and cut or style that I like and I couldn’t ever achieve that as my hair is thin and wispy and nothing like the woman in the photo so I always felt disappointed.

slightlysnippy · 28/02/2022 23:19

It's not a good cut or colour I would go back and get your money back or fixed, Although I would only get it fixed if they offered a more senior and experienced hairdresser to fix it.

Krabapple · 28/02/2022 23:21

I think it looks lovely. It’s not like the picture - not as blonde. What does it look like curled as the still on the pic is quite different? I think this is the stylists best attempt but agree it’s not what you wanted so you should complain. Don’t think it looks bad though as lovely.

Luckingfovely · 28/02/2022 23:21

I have a bespoke balayage and root melt on mine, and what you've had is definitely a really amateur version. The highlights are badly done and very uneven. It shouldn't be that red - this desperately needed a good toner on it, which they clearly haven't done.

Interested to know how much you paid for it - I love mine but it is not cheap - £160 a time. Because it's done so well, I only need it done every three months though, as the blending is perfect and it grows out really well.

(Not trying to be smug or make you feel worse - but understanding what you wanted and how disappointed you are with what you've got. I'd definitely complain).

user1493494961 · 28/02/2022 23:21

I prefer the first two photos.

FelixViolet · 28/02/2022 23:23

You wanted the top darker than the bottom.

You wanted a balayage not the foil-higjlight look.

You wanted the highlights to blend into the root melt.

You didn't get any of those three criteria.

Of course YANBU. Confused

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/02/2022 23:28

It's nothing like you wanted OP and I'm not surprised you were holding back the tears.

Ring back first thing tomorrow and ask for the most senior colourist to fix it or a refund and go elsewhere. I wouldn't want the same person trying to re do it.

pradavilla · 28/02/2022 23:31

That's really bad compared to ur before and what u asked for. Reminds me of old fashioned highlights (very thin bits of hair like the cap u used to get in home kits). Not a balayage at all. It's nothing like what u asked for and colour is a bit auburn especially compared to your hair before.

I hope you didn't pay a lot of likely for this. I wouldn't trust them to try and fix it.

LilacPaisley · 28/02/2022 23:37

I think tbh the inspo pic you took is probably hair extensions or someone with really thick hair that’s just been styled and curled

I agree with this. A style is going to look a lot different on two people with different thickness of hair. I had my hair done and a friend liked it so much, she booked the same hairdresser to do the same style for her a week later. It looked completely different even though she took a pic of mine along with her to jog the stylists memory. Her hair is fine and mine is coarse. It's going to look different.

LadyPropane · 28/02/2022 23:39

I quite like it!

But if you don't like it you should go back and ask them to make some changes.

peachy3 · 28/02/2022 23:44

Definitely go back, that’s not right at all. Looks like old school chunky highlights.

Walkingalot · 28/02/2022 23:49

The first pic doesn't look too bad and with a bit of styling, would look a tamer version of the third pic. However, the second pic - far too much orange tone to it. I wouldn't be happy. Trouble is, any correcting is going to damage the hair further. I know, I've been there. Was a total disaster. I shouldn't have gone back in hindsight. If they couldn't do it right first time ......

TatianaBis · 28/02/2022 23:53

Was it the same hairdresser or the same salon that did the previous work?

It doesn't look terrible OP, it's not worth crying over, if just looks like an indifferent highlights job, which is not what you asked for.

Niahm · 01/03/2022 00:06

It looks like early 2000’s hair😶 Deffo go get it fixed, you should end up with the hair that you paid for!

PurplePansy05 · 01/03/2022 00:17

I think tbh the inspo pic you took is probably hair extensions or someone with really thick hair that’s just been styled and curled

This.

Your hair is much thinner than the model's. I also think the cut is bad and there's no styling there, it looks very flat. The colour wouldn't be bad if the cut and style were better. You also need thicker hair for this effect.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 01/03/2022 00:20

I really think you need to go over it with tongs and style it before getting (more) upset. To me it looks almost like your inspo pic, just not styled and maybe a slightly warmer tone - but that could be because you're standing in sunlight, not too sure. The root melt doesn't look great I'll give you that, but that and the warm tones should be easily resolved.

I get how devastating it is to have a bad appointment with a hairdresser but this is not as bad as you think it is.

ChickenStripper · 01/03/2022 00:46

It's not what you asked for and she has done that one heavy highlight on one side and not on the other. It's a bad job and they should rectify to your satisfaction. I had a similar very bad situation funnily enough when a photo was involved and they asked me if I wanted the same person to re do it. I said no and got their top colourist instead. (I had been talked into having this new person by the company) The new person doesn't look at me when I go in now.

7eleven · 01/03/2022 00:49

That’s not good enough OP. Please don’t think I’m being rude, but I don’t think the cut looks great. I’d find another hairdresser I think, if I were you.

I once had a crap cut just before Xmas and spent the whole period with one side shorter than the other. Peed me off. Was sorted out with a free cut, but I wasn’t happy.

TedMullins · 01/03/2022 01:24

Yes, sorry I agree OP it looks horrendous. I used to have hair like the picture and my hairdresser would make it look exactly like that. Yours has put in a few random highlights and seems to have darkened the bottom. I’d definitely complain, it’s nothing like what you wanted

Soddingcat · 01/03/2022 07:03

The final pic of your original hair in later posts shows it’s blonde . The stylist has used a warm brown colour to prevent the ends going khaki . It’s always going to look teddy unfortunately. Next time a dark ash brown can be used in chunky lowlight weaves .You also need a dark root melt to soften the top .
It’s quite complex and lots can’t do it well
