To go back to hairdresser and say this isn't ok?

This is the picture I showed her. My hair was a bronde balayage but grown out for a good 8 months so the top half was quite dark and the bottom was very blonde. She said that she would do a dark root melt and then bring some blonde up to the top but that she would also add some lowlights to add dimension like ok the picture

So what the fuckety fuck has she done to my hair? I was very clearly not happy I was holding back tears but just wanted to get out of there. This isn't good enough though right?

It was never going to come out like the photo of what you wanted. That's had serious money spent on the expertise to make it look like that!!

But even as a cut & colour they haven't done a good job on yours at all. You need their most senior stylist to do what they can or a refund to go elsewhere.

ENoeuf · 28/02/2022 22:34

It’s awful, I must be the only one who can see the photos 😂 totally agree op it’s not even in the same street as what you asked for. There’s a weird difference between the top and the bottom and it’s random colours. You’re right, but don’t go back to her can you afford someone else / get her manager to fix it?

superlola · 28/02/2022 22:35

Op- I have similar hair to what you’ve asked for and have had occasions where it’s not quite right. A few things to bear in mind -

  1. to a certain extent, that very gorgeous light/dark mix will be heightened by filters that up the sense of contrast. It might not look the same in certain lights.

  2. if you’ve tried to achieve the dark colour by using dark streaks/balayage, what often eventually happens is that dark colour goes a bit orange/red eventually - not sure why is happened so quickly here but similar kept happening to me. Eventually the solution was to leave my natural hair colour alone (a dark blonde/mouse colour) and make the highlights more icy.

To me it looks like you need to bleach some of the streaks again and then cool it all down using a toner. That will give you more of a contrast and take out the red undertones. Good luck!

YANBU to be disappointed. If they couldn't do it even remotely close to the picture you showed then they should have said, not bashed on anyway with something else. My hairdresser is always very honest about what can and can't be achieved.

HelpfulAlex · 28/02/2022 22:39

For those that haven’t had a balayage before, the two first pictures are nothing like it should be.

For me a balayage always looks done, subtle in more ways and low maintenance (despite the time it takes to do it). There isn’t a root blend on this either. I would t be happy either, but you must go back and tell them you’re not happy - I’ve done this several times as it expensive!

Aubrrgin · 28/02/2022 22:43

Hush @dfendyr.

Dixiechickonhols · 28/02/2022 22:48

Your colour isn’t as blonde as your pic could she add more blonde?
I don’t understand not speaking up at time. Surely you just say it’s not how I wanted it. My hairdresser is really clear with people saying it won’t come out like x or explaining why she can’t do y but I suspect some customers have very unrealistic expectations.

SeenYourArse · 28/02/2022 22:49

I’m a hairstylist..l I would go back it’s not great at all, not bad per say but she just isn’t skilled enough to achieve the look you requested. You now need a root melt dragged down staggered amounts all throughout, including some right to the tip to get rid of the washed out tones through the lengths. An easy fix if you know what you are doing!

SeenYourArse · 28/02/2022 22:50

Plus the blonde toned not left raw bleach as it is now.

betwixtlives · 28/02/2022 22:51

the time to complain about this was when you were in the salon

dfendyr · 28/02/2022 22:52

@Aubrrgin

Hush *@dfendyr*.
Well that's me told....

Not really. It's quite common to look at it at home and realise how bad it was.

It's also really awkward. I complained about a terrible dye job but suspected the stylist was a bit aggro so called at home to say I wasn't happy. I was right, she was so rude I was glad I waited. Her manager offered me a redo with someone else but I got a refund instead and went elsewhere.

Noisyneighneigh · 28/02/2022 22:54

Sorry OP I'd be upset too. It's stripey and looks cheaply done. Is the hairdresser part of a team? Could a senior stylist fix it for you?

Brideandprejudice · 28/02/2022 22:55

@Aubrrgin

I was holding back tears

Here’s a grip for you.

That's a clip. Not a grip.

If you're going to be nasty at least be right.

Justilou1 · 28/02/2022 22:58

It’s blorange. I’d be peeved. I’m assuming you’ve tried to tone it?

Noisyneighneigh · 28/02/2022 22:58

Wait so the middle one is post hairdressers?

notsohippychick · 28/02/2022 23:01

It looks like the brown she used as a base colour had red under stones. The one you love is using cool/ash brown which doesn’t. I think that’s half the battle here. She’s used a brown with red in it. That need to be corrected for starters x

Susu49 · 28/02/2022 23:03

So i think the first two pics are your hair after the hairdressers, yes?

It's not as bad as you think, people aren't going to see you and think you have bad hair, they probably won't even notice. But yanbu, it's not good enough. Definitely speak to then, be specific on what you dislike and how it should be.

Sometimes hairdressers do get it wrong but they should be keen to correct it.

Goldenharp · 28/02/2022 23:03

I can see why you're disappointed. There's a mixture of an odd reddish colour and some less than subtle blonde streaks on top. I'd contact the owner but I'm not sure I'd trust them to fix it. The fact that they let you go looking like that and plainly not happy doesn't inspire me with trust. I'd be careful with trying to tone it myself because that blonde hair may grab the colour and ashing it down will darken it.

MillaRennt · 28/02/2022 23:06

That looks unfortunate. 😔 Sorry OP. Hope they'll fix it for you.

Elissax · 28/02/2022 23:06

Go back.

Your hair before is way blonder and nicer tbh.
It would have been so easy if they was competent to do what you wanted!

It looks fine though but I don't know what was going through their head

DifficultBloodyWoman · 28/02/2022 23:07

Call the hairdresser. Say that it is not what you asked for and you want another appointment to fix it or a refund.

I recently had to do that when a hairdresser screwed up my hair. The salon was really apologetic. I was offered a weekend appointment with the owner (he doesn’t usually do weekends). He was lovely and tried not to criticise his colleagues’ work but also agreed with me (he described it as stripes!) and understood what I wanted. I suspect words were had after I left. I wasn’t charged. I was quite miffed at having to waste another two hours at the hairdresser though.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 28/02/2022 23:08

Yes, this. It isn’t that bad really but it isn’t what you wanted and paid for.
