Children told about war in Russia in school

Dd is a sensitive soul in year 3 and today their class was told that people in Ukraine are having to leave their country with their pets for fear of being shot by Russians (this is the gist of what dd says). We haven't spoken about this at home.

AIBU to think the school shouldn't be talking to such young children about this?

Be glad your child isn't one of the children being bundled into a bus without their fathers to leave the county. They bewildered and confused. The school can sensitively talk to my 7 year old and she can ask me questions if she wants to. I am not going to hide this

No YANBU unreasonable OP. I discovered today the topic had been covered with my 5yo’s class. They were shown videos of parents kissing children goodbye as they went off to war. I would not be complaining if this was an opt-in lesson or we were asked for consent. Many children in the class have been left anxious, with one lad crying and begging his mother not to send him to fight in a war. 5 years old. I do not see why we cannot leave children to be children. Particularly after the time they have had.

I don’t think this is something you can fully protect your kids from. If they don’t see it on the tv or hear it from you they will hear it in the playground. Sadly a conversation with kiddies will need to be had.
