Just been reading up on this and it's fascinating.

One of mine is the monopoly man not having a monocle, I could've swore he did.

Anyone else have any good ones?

@Blinky21

No one says "play it again Sam''' in Casablanca
Play It Again Sam is a Woody Allen film inspired by Bogart’s performance in Casablanca,

My false memory is a TV series I swear I remember watching with my mum in the 90s, it had Anthony Andrews in it and was set in Cornwall. But I can’t find any reference to it anywhere, not in AA’s filmography or IMDB or on the Wikipedia page of the author of the novel it was based on.

yellowsmileyface · 28/02/2022 10:12

A weird one for me is the Flintstones. I always thought it was Flinstones.

Easily explained though, as I think the misremembered pronunciation feels more natural to say, rolls off the tongue more. Plus I was a toddler when I used to watch this show so the double T was probably a little difficult for me to pronounce, resulting in misremembering the correct title.

Mollysocks · 28/02/2022 10:16

But that's how I remembered it happened with players having 1-11 on their shirts and no names!

You are right about the numbers and no names @Spidey66

How are so many thinking this?

I think for so many years people thought Puerto Rico and District of Columbia are states.

What was the series/novel?

CounsellorTroi · 28/02/2022 10:45

It was Bride of Pendorric and the novel was by Victoria Holt.

Giggorata · 28/02/2022 10:47

On my very old school globe, (40s or 50s?) New Zealand is at 4 o'clock in relation to Australia.

ChessieFL · 28/02/2022 10:47

I think the 52 states thing is because, as a pp said, there’s 52 weeks in a year (and 52 cards in a deck) so it’s a number we’re used to. Then people think about Alaska and Hawaii not being part of the mainland and think it must be 50 plus 2 to get 52, instead of it being 48 plus 2 to get 50.

MorningStarling · 28/02/2022 10:50

Until recently I was 100% certain Roy "Chubby" Brown died about ten years ago. Apparently he's still alive.

Rantypanties · 28/02/2022 10:56

I’ve just pulled out the official Queen lyrics book and it has ‘of the world’ at the end of We are the Champions!

The actual coast lines and pictures used to draw maps only really became accurate after satellites started taking pictures,

Also a flat map is inaccurate over a large area due to the earth not being flat.

Lots of weather maps are not very accurate, the Isle of Mann and NI are often moved closer to Great Britain.

whynotwhatknot · 28/02/2022 11:10

People thinking russia is nowhere near the US because of flat maps

i love taytos btw

Bit random, but I could have sworn when the Lion King came out in the 90's, there was a song called Morning Report which zazu sang to Mufasa, however according to Google, it never made the director's cut so was never in the released version.
So where and how did I hear it!? I can remember it word for word even now!

The Morning Report is in The Lion King musical.

HoldingTheDoor · 28/02/2022 11:20

And it was included on the special edition in 2003.

There used to be so many different versions of films : tv version, vhs version, theatrical release version that it is entirely possible you did see a version of it.

We had Muppets Christmas Carol on VHS and one of my favourite songs is a love song about Scrooge’s breakup with his true love the Michael Cain joins in on. The Disney DVD release version completely cut the song out (maybe they don’t like his singing voice idk) It really confused me as it was one of my favourite bits of the film

whynotwhatknot · 28/02/2022 11:40

yeah they cut it out because they said it was too upsetting or some bollocks-it makes the film look weird once its taken out

Surely people are just getting mixed up with other brands of crisps?

Love this!

@tothesea

sashh and others I’m not talking about the credits that everyone knows. I’m talking about different opening credits. All I can remember is that they were outside but in a desert type setting rather than the fountain. I guess it doesn’t count as a Mandela effect as no one else remembers it. But I could swear on it. I remember noticing when it changed.
I remember this as well. I'm sure it ended with the camera looking at them from above as they sat down, and in a desert. I also remember Friends being brand new then, it was the first showing of the first series.

Because it was released in a special edition re-release at the cinema, may have been the 3D version. I remember because I saw it!

There was a trend in the 2000s of re-releasing older films with 'new scenes' but they were just money grabbers. Literally the same film but for the odd minute-long scene

This one I had the American dvd for and it has the song in it. Was so confused when I watched it on the European version, thought I'd lost my mind and was rewinding looking for it

ReeseWitherfork · 28/02/2022 12:08

The first I realised he was still alive was when Ground Force went to visit. So I find the Mandela Effect even more fascinating when you factor in my age / that I was convinced of it before I even knew the Mandela Effect was a thing.

If you Google Peters Projection Map, it shows you a more accurate representation of what the earth looks like.

ReeseWitherfork · 28/02/2022 12:09

Only copied half my message! Whoops. The beginning bit says I was born in 89 so I don't remember Mandela dying, but I am sure I had seen footage of his funeral and learnt about his (posthumous) legacy at school.
