Just that really. Sociopathic Patel refusing visas. In a time where we need leadership & empathy & intelligence there's a ducking idiot at the helm & Rees~Mogg making a fortune with insider trading.
Who the hell will admit to being so sociopathically selffish & grabby to still vote Tory?

I think it's the crumbling concrete in schools that has finally finished the Tories.

They were told in 2018 that there was a critical threat to life unless they rebuilt 300-400 schools a year.

And they decided not to bother rebuilding 300-400 schools a year.

To date they have completed 4.

Generally after some RAAC collapsed.

There's no reasonable defence for endangering the nation's children like that.

It’s other people’s children they are endangering though so fixing it is really not a priority. The children of Tory MPs should be just fine.

CaptainJackSparrow85 · 10/10/2023 15:55

I absolutely hate the Tories. I can’t forgive them over Brexit for a start, not to mention anything else.

But I really don’t want to vote Labour either because we have some circumstances that means a Labour government would be likely to really screw us over.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/10/2023 16:01

@Princessandthepea0 well that's interesting- the FT certainly doesn't support the Tory's - and neither does much of business these days- so which part of Productive and contributing are you talking about? Everyone in the circle I know is productive and contributing, a fair number gave businesses- not one of us vote Tory-it's a mix of Lib Dem and labour depending where you live. Most people I know who support the Tory's these days are the seriously well off Manor House and pony club bunch , some of whom contribute as little as they can get away by stuffing money offshore or the absolute opposite end of the spectrum busily blaming foreigners for their inability to get on.

There really is a choice.

Tory.

Or not Tory.

Beyond that, there is no choice of what "not Tory" looks like. If you are that scared of not Tory, better vote Tory. After all the mantra "they can't get any worse" must be true at some point. Although having gone from Cameron, to May to Johnson to Truss to Sunak, you may be interested in a few bridges I have for sale.

Struggling to see how anything announced by Labour is going to screw anyone over? Are you a non-dom? If so they aren't being screwed over, just required to pay a bit of tax like they would have to do if they were, say, Americans.
I suspect your fears are based on made-up assumptions like "meat tax".

CaptainJackSparrow85 · 10/10/2023 16:55

No - not based on a made-up assumption but a core election promise, unfortunately. If it was a made-up assumption, I wouldn’t feel so conflicted.

And no, not a non-dom - sadly for me. A regular, boring, PAYE taxpayer to HMRC.

What is it? The one about building houses?

Maybe the Lib Dems could win and need your vote in your constituency?

I'm not sure what what referring to about the Labour party but maybe you're wrong? There's no manifesto yet and I'm only up to date as far as yesterday's conference so I'm no authority on their policies.

Making their own profit from Govt employment or Govt contracts isn’t capitalism.

Of course it is. An extreme form, otherwise known as theft.

No. It’s theft by Govt. Corruption through Govt. That is socialism.

PPs definition of capitalism was fine. The point is that people voluntarily pay for things they want.

When Givt takes money by force, or prints it, then anyone who grows rich through that is indeed stealing. That’s socialism.

Capitalism = voluntary exchange

Socialism = force, theft, robbery

Separately, socialism makes a country poor.

R37sraY · 10/10/2023 23:25

Passepartoute · 10/10/2023 10:22

The well-off always claim that they will live if Labour get in. The only ones who actually do it are the ones who would do it regardless of which government is in, notably because they want to retire abroad. Investors find a stable government a hell of a lot more attractive than the shitshow of the last few years.

Retire? 19 year old kids know they can earn twice as much in America and Middle East.

MrsPottomous · 10/10/2023 23:26

It’s the turkeys….they like voting for Christmas! 🤣😂

R37sraY · 10/10/2023 23:27

To be fair, those kids starting Russell group STEM degrees will leave whichever party wins. Tories have been Champaign Socialists for decades.

travellinglighter · 11/10/2023 06:34

Katypp · 10/10/2023 13:08

And therein lies the problem. And the excuses that will be peddled by Labour should they win the next election.
If something 'good' happened under Labour and was continued under the Tories, the credit is all Labour's
If something 'bad' happened under Labour, we ignore that fact and blame the Tories for not putting it right.
Your argument would be a lot more credible if you could just remove your blinkers and accept that Labour is not the answer to every problem we have.

A if something b ad was introduced by labour and 13 years of Tory inaction caused it to continue then we shouldn’t blame the tories for doing nothing about it? If something good happened under labour and the Tory party continued it, they can claim credit despite doing nothing?

Zonder · 11/10/2023 06:47

Oh @R37sraY did you come on here straight after watching Gbeebies? Although even they seem to be trying to shift a bit less right these days. Or do you consider them far left too?

I haven’t heard of them.

It’s my kids friends who are at uni and planning out their lives, not mine!

I'm sure we all thought all kinds of things when we were young and at uni.

Yeah the Tories are socialists, and my Dad’s the Pope.
Who makes this ridiculous crap up and spreads it about?
As for people retiring abroad - I am seriously considering it and I never thought I would. I have never voted Tory but this place is turning into a right wing shit hole with all the people who want to send kids back up chimneys to teach them the value of hard work.

Bells3032 · 11/10/2023 08:59

honestly if you asked me last week i probably would have said i'd vote labour in the next election. But as a Jew I was scared, whilst Starmer has tried his best to rid the party of Anti-semitism my fear would be that in time the party would pull him down and install another Corbyn. But i probably would cos lesser of two evils and just hope Keir keeps control.

However, this week seeing the images of groups at the Labour party conference celebrating the massacre of women and children (and no matter what has happened walking into a town and beheading 40 babies cannot be considered "freedom fighting") has absolutely terrified me and i think i will be voting Tory next election. Who knows - a year is a long time. (I live in a Tory safe seat anyway so makes little difference)

I don’t blame you at all. This weekend has shown how dangerous Corbyn’s views actually were

I hadn’t fully paid attention at the time. I wouldn’t go near the same party

Corbyn isn't in the Labour Party, unlike the Tories who abused this Jewish candidate and are still in the Tory party. You need to stop trying to point score on this because every party has questions to answer.

Dan Ozarow, a Jewish Labour activist in Hertsmere who stood as a candidate in the Borehamwood Kenilworth ward byelection in 2020, suffered antisemitic abuse at the hands of Tory councillors, including a mocked-up poster suggesting he supported Hezbollah, and says the abuse has continued.

“From day one, many in the Jewish community have been saying how disappointing it was that those found guilty by the independent KC and panel of inciting antisemitism and conducting a personal, negative campaign against me were merely reprimanded by the Conservative Party,” he said.

I don’t need to do anything. My empathy lies with the poster who has every right to feel as they do.
