Who the F**K still thinks voting Tory is a good idea.

Just that really. Sociopathic Patel refusing visas. In a time where we need leadership & empathy & intelligence there's a ducking idiot at the helm & Rees~Mogg making a fortune with insider trading.
Who the hell will admit to being so sociopathically selffish & grabby to still vote Tory?

Yep @SerendipityJane i will be an economic migrant and have had all the necessary health, police, skills and economic checks to prove that I will be able to support myself and not rely on the state and therefore not burden that country. I imagine it will feel quite good.

Bigcoatweather · 07/10/2023 18:43

I’m politically homeless, but I can’t bring myself to vote labour because they seem very weak at the moment. There isn’t a labour (or Tory) politician I admire. But as a ridiculously squeezed tax payer, I’m not thinking labour are about to do me any favours.

How will it feel to be an refugee immigrant ?

People are already doing it. I imagine they feel quite good. Globally salaries in our field are about 40% higher. So not only low wage here for our skills but ridiculous tax. All paying for the majority of adults to take from the state. More and more tax for nothing but hatred in return. Yeah - cya. Sort yourselves out.

Why refugee?

Condo · 07/10/2023 18:59

Yes @Princessandthepea0 wages do seem to be higher where we are moving but we will have to pay for healthcare which is fine if it means we don’t have to deal with the lottery which is the NHS. I think this country is at real risk of a serious brain drain with the amount of engineers and police and nhs workers I know that are making moves to leave the UK.

Also I have paid the country 6k to process my visa - meant to add that on my last post.

No - businesses will move to where they think their next hold on power is. Tell me, the current chancellor has been told in his own commissioned reports: the tax system is an leading cause of stagnation and lack of productivity.

In simple terms, the highest tax payers who are contributing the most to society financially are now changing behaviour. Reducing hours, moving, pensions etc. A combination of things: the huge cliff edges, high tax burdens at that level, high dependency on that level and unfairness when compared to the tax burden/salary in other western democracies.

Labour plans will make that worse. So whilst I won’t disagree Sunak’s police’s have doomed us to stagnation. As proven by the multiple reports into state finances - the reasons behind it will be made worse under Labour.

Business knows that Labour has a chance of stringing together something sane. The Tories have basically eaten themselves. They haven't got a coherent plan at all now, all Sunak is currently doing is blocking progress.

Anyway, if the polls are right we'll get to judge Labour soon enough.

The country needs a change.

Why refugee?

Taking refuge from the corrupt tories and incompetent labour apparently.

Or you could wait and see what labour are going to do first.

It’s already happening which is why we now have a majority of adults relying on the state. The whole tax the rich has backfired. We weren’t taxing the rich, we were taxing those who has studied and done well for themselves. Aspiration and work ethic has been crushed under both Labour before (WTC, CTC) and the Tories now (tax policy). Labour have long term plans of making the known issues around tax policy worse. This will mean the tiny minority in this country paying around 80% of the tax will get smaller again.

Politics of envy and someone else will pay has led us to a country where the majority are now state dependent. That is not a country with good long term prospects under any government- especially one which will make it worse.

People compare to other countries a lot. Other countries don’t have a majority population dependent on the state. Other countries don’t have low basic rates of tax like we do. Other countries have higher salaries. You aren’t penalised the minute you hit 6 figures as some devil; that’s a very low entry point in our field.

We aren’t a prosperous country anymore because no-one wants to address these points. It will be too late soon. If it’s not already with the ONS confirming that as of this year - the majority are state dependent.

Condo · 07/10/2023 19:18

It is an appalling state of affairs which like you say has fault lines created by both parties. Subsidising rich companies not to pay properly
by topping up wages. The ludicrous lockdown furlough catastrophe which enabled people to sit on their arses and get paid for nothing. I see it in my own field, the UK has become wholly unproductive. Too much nimbyism means we can’t get any major infrastructure projects done so we are relying on a crumbling Victorian legacy to get us by in crucial areas like energy, prisons, roads, rails etc…

I love my country but I really fear for the future.

Well I guess it leaves more room for similarly qualified immigrant refugees who do want to live here. Even if there's no legal way for them to demonstrate that.

It's somewhat ironic that the people who are fucking off out of the UK because they don't like it here are probably not the people Lee Anderson and his chums meant.

No-one in high salary industry will come here. The salaries are shit and the tax policy is fucking awful. Which is why we now have an ever increasing number people of not paying in as no-one is taking those higher paid jobs. People are paying in nothing and expecting the money to magically appear.

Oh they'll come if they are bribed enough.

How that makes native Brits feel is another matter.

Although with no limit on the number of workers from India, I don't see wages rising too much.

Yet.

Condo · 07/10/2023 19:41

People can apply for all kind of work visas to come here 🤷‍♀️ probably why there was almost 1 million legal migrants who came here last year.

of course the government has made no provision for extra schooling, housing and other needs so again everything is squeezed and overcrowded. Another reason to get the hell
out of dodge.

That doesn’t fix the issue with high-skilled, high salaries jobs. There are no bribes which cancel out the tax marginals at 100k here. Lots of basic rate tax payers coming in solves nothing. Our basic rate tax is one of the lowest in the world - it means people are still net takers.

We need higher earners, lots more of them and a larger tax base with higher contributions lower down. That will match other economies that prosper then and are often quoted in here ad the ideal.

Bangwam1 · 07/10/2023 19:46

Voting for neither. Leaving the UK is the answer to a quality of life.

My son has been on a waiting list to see a sedation dentist for over six months, now he is in pain and I have just had to lay down £400 for a child to have basic medical care or wait til December.

Enough is enough as far as I’m concerned.

Bangwam1 · 07/10/2023 19:47

It won’t improve, Labour or Tory. It has been shite here my whole adult life.

Bangwam1 · 07/10/2023 19:48

I have a few ideas, but I’m thinking UAE for a few years. Then settle where I want to (not here)

Bangwam1 · 07/10/2023 19:55

I have also heard that labour will be changing 40% tax to 42%. We have reached a stage where there is no mobility, no future and their answer to this shit show is more tax for people who are barely keeping their heads above water.

Meanwhile we subsidise companies like Tesco with working tax credits so they can pay low wages. The system is fucked.

It doesn’t take a genius to know this is unsustainable.

Someone has to fund the now majority who don’t pay in now - don’t cha know. Quite where this mystical money tree is coming from. The now minority who pay for everyone else taxed more. School fees, etc, etc. Pissing off the last remaining people now funding the majority is not going to have a positive long term impact. The difference between Blair and Starmer? The former knew this.

Exactly. Don’t piss off the people who do pay

The sheer amount of people who don’t is too big

GreekDogRescue · 07/10/2023 20:02

Do you think Sir Keir who doesn’t know what a woman is will be any better?

Can’t you see that all politicians are the same?

MarshaBradyo · 07/10/2023 20:03

The amount of times I’ve heard ‘we’ll fund it by abolishing Non Dom status’

It’s like the bloody tardis

They are also the most mobile and attractive for other countries. They’ll get bugger all

Bangwam1 · 07/10/2023 20:06

And taxing the middle classes like this is going to bite the UK in the arse so badly. We have the young leaving, and the old getting more expensive. Anyone qualified is being offered a life elsewhere (like me), and who can blame them for taking that offer.

Bangwam1 · 07/10/2023 20:09

The UK has the worst of capitalism and socialism combined
