To think he should ask for scraps?,

DH called into our local chippy after work tonight, kindly bought me a bag of chips... yet no scraps (batter!).

He NEVER asks for scraps or claims they never have any...i mean is it even worth having chips without scraps on the top??

Aibu to LTB?

So as not to dripfeed... DH does not have scraps, salt nor vinegar on his chips...

They're called gubbins or gribbles round ere.

Bromse · 23/02/2022 23:20

I've never had scraps. Chips are nice if you are in the mood for them, grated cheese on must be better than 'scraps', and vinegar. I always used to think that a bag of chips, even a small one, was too much for one to consume alone, nice to share.

Mammyloveswine · 23/02/2022 23:20

I can feel the love for scraps...

Even M&S sell scraps

MimsyBorogroves · 23/02/2022 23:24

Scraps are where it's at.

Bet most of you lot haven't had a patty either. Mmm.

WiddlinDiddlin · 23/02/2022 23:31

My OH does this too... mines from Portsmouth. I am from Manchester.

I swear, he won't ask as he thinks it's wrong or asking for a freebie or something, but here in the Midlands you only get if you ask, they're not advertised unlike many chippies up north.

He comes home and mumbles how they didn't have any but its funny, any time I'VE been in, they've had scraps... (and he does the same thing about anything he can't find in a shop that he might have to ask for.. just mumbles 'didn't have any' like I don't know what he's up to!).

Scraps are brilliant!

pawpaws2022 · 23/02/2022 23:38

LTB. Here, have some of my scraps

pawpaws2022 · 23/02/2022 23:41

To be fair actually we do only have one local chip shop that does scraps
I love going "home" to Bolton and asking for a pasty barm and not getting Hmm face and it's only 30 mins down the road!

narcdad · 23/02/2022 23:41

I'm a southerner and scraps have been scrapped here for years, I asked a few times at different chippy's and got strange looks and was told they don't know what I mean 🙄

I really want a bag of chips with scraps now, onion vinegar as well as normal and loads of salt, prefer to eat them walking outside too!

slimshady18 · 23/02/2022 23:45

@GreenFingersWouldBeHandy

Russia is about to cause WW3, but you don’t have scrappy bits of leftover batter?
Oh piss off
Dixiechickonhols · 23/02/2022 23:45

I’m in Lancashire and our local chippy doesn’t do scraps but over border in Yorkshire I see them. Scallops are popular - potato slices in batter. Special at chippy last week was a Wigan kebab (pie on a muffin)

saleorbouy · 23/02/2022 23:48

Would a pickled egg not suffice for the lack of scraps!

sweeneytoddsrazor · 24/02/2022 00:03

We call them scrumps down here in the west country.

And funnily enough autocorrect just tried to change scrumps to scrumpy which is of course the correct drink to have with chips Grin

Boadicea2 · 24/02/2022 00:11

We used to call them browsels, which is apparently Kentish dialect. I used to get 3d's worth on the way home from Brownies. Haven't had them for ages and I'm not sure what they call them round here - Thames Valley.

Bromse · 24/02/2022 01:09

The difference is, scraps are free. Poor people used to ask for them. I was told that when I was a child. I daresay some people who are not poor do like them, such as the op.
Quackpot · 24/02/2022 01:46

Yanbu. He's broken. Return for replacement 🤣 assuming there's warranty?

MingeofDeath · 24/02/2022 01:53

Whilst we are doing Chippy Bible quotes -Jesus held up a buttered barm, placed inside it a pie and said unto us " Behold a Wigan kebab" and it was good.

SD1978 · 24/02/2022 02:02

Never heard of scraps.....and salt and vinegar- you're all weird. Chips and brown sauce (Scottish) is the only way to go. Unless it's 0300 and then chips, cheese and curry sauce is acceptable.......

dipdye · 24/02/2022 02:17

"always give this man scraps"

😂😂😂

dipdye · 24/02/2022 02:18

Sorry, whhhaattt

Thoosa · 24/02/2022 02:49

We have family in yorkshire. I used to live in slight fear that the DC would go back into their London schools after the summer and tell the teachers we’d been feeding them “scraps”. Grin Not a widely known thing down here. Smile

DearlyBeloathed · 24/02/2022 03:03

@GreenFingersWouldBeHandy Shall all MN topics from now on be about Russia then? Or do you just take offence to this one?

YANBU, OP. I love them and am craving some now...

jamandmarmaladeoncrumpets · 24/02/2022 03:30

I am Southerner.

No scraps here. Never had them??

I just like normal haddock and chips eaten out the paper - noooooo plates or cutlery Angry. Lots of salt n vinegar!

SamMil · 24/02/2022 03:39

I've never heard of scraps (yes, I'm a southerner) - they look good though!

I also don't add salt or vinegar Blush Don't judge me! Grin

timestheyarechanging · 24/02/2022 04:41

Noooooo not ever would I ask for scraps, I wouldn't want to eat them either. Ex P (Yorkshire) would and did but I wouldn't! Thankfully current DP doesn't even know what 'scraps' are.
