What are your views on a drag queen visiting a primary school for the day? Think thigh high leather boots with short revealing dresses and a dance show. The drag queen spent the day at school. Did a show for KS2 and then went around to individual classes to read a story book. The school had a themed dress up day. The theme was This is Me. Parents were not informed that this would be happening and were not given the option to opt in or out of the experience. The school has a very diverse mix of cultures and religions. This particular queen is easily found online, the kids were told their stage name and their content is rather steamy.

YANBU- It’s inappropriate
YABU- It’s appropriate

I have name changed for this.

You don't tackle gender stereotypes by focusing on what glam glittery shit people wear.

Apart from anything it'll all be micro plastics.

TheUsualShitshow · 24/02/2022 17:58

@WorriedMumsDontSleep

Nope, just pointing out that just because wingscrow's aggressors were not trans or dq etc doesn't mean no women have ever been the victim of one.

It is a stupid comment.

Oh I know, sorry! I did think after I posted it that it would look like I was accusing you when I wasn't, I quoted the wrong post. Smile
Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/02/2022 17:58

Why on earth do you all suppose the teachers would have organised this

I strongly suspect at least some of it will be the result of messages from some deranged committee at the LEA, pressing for use of this "valuable tool" with the full intention to follow up on whether their "recommendation" has been followed

It's not always appreciated how assertive these committees can be, nor how often they're peopled by those with little common sense but an awful lot to say

Jijithecat · 24/02/2022 17:58

@Bintymcbintface

Do actors change their names for when they're in U and PG films so they're separated from their 15/18 films when googled?

I'd get changing the name if it was something like tits mcgee but dolly trolley isn't at all suggestive or inappropriate.

I'm not sure if you're being deliberately obtuse. Dolly Trolley is quite clearly a play on Trolley Dolly and hardly an empowering term to describe an air hostess.

A definition courtesy of Urban Dictionary for you:

'An often over-painted but nonetheless glamourous and sexy female cabin crew member on a commercial airline, so-called because they offer drinks and other refreshments from a trolley pushed down the centre aisle. Once, it was acceptable to also pinch or grope them as they passed with their trolleys but alas, no longer. Now they must use more complicated methods of picking up men that they fancy.

Otherwise known as "tarts with carts" or "flying mattresses ". Were known once for offering "coffee, tea or me".
"But mammy, I've always wanted to be a trolley dolly!" "But you'll be nothing but a flying mattress!".'

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:00

Unfortunately a lot of teachers are ru Paul fans (I know one) and the pride / stonewall messages have been effective at telling everyone late night seedy nightclub entertainment is part of diversity and must be included in a well rounded curriculum.

I bet they also shoved it under cultural capital and literacy thus ticking several boxes at once.

Bintymcbintface · 24/02/2022 18:01

The DQ didn't show up in suspenders though, they were wearing a sparkly dress

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:02

And?

Still not getting the educational value.

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:04

Op was it part of the end of a no outsiders programme by any chance?

My son's school came to the end of a 3 yr NO project this term and did a "this is me" day.

But they just wore their favourite clothes. Colour was encouraged. But had to be PE safe and sensible.

Bintymcbintface · 24/02/2022 18:05

The "inappropriate dress" has been called out a few times when in reality it was just a sparkly dress with a leotard underneath, hardly the eye popping x-rated attire people are claiming it to be

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:06

Again, what educational value does a sparkly dress have in school?

Bintymcbintface · 24/02/2022 18:07

Yes I got that, you're reaching quite a bit here I think. Kids aren't going to be using urban dictionary, trolley dolly is quite an outdated term that I don't think has been heard for quite a while. There was a prime time tv show of the same name a few years ago however

frostedfruit · 24/02/2022 18:07

Yes this!!

The microplastics GrinGrinGrin

Also, this is me:
Heterosexual, chainsaw weilding, woman who loves a bit of glam but also happy in hiking boots. Don't attempt to pigeon-hole me or gaslight me that I'm gender fluid or non-binary - I'm a woman!

Bintymcbintface · 24/02/2022 18:09

Showing people that you can wear whatever you like regardless of who you are and not being made to feel bad for being different?

Educational values don't come purely from an academic point of view, nor do they only come from people who are disabled, adversity fits lots of different things, including boys who want to wear "girly clothes"

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:10

Yeah they do that in eyfs.

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:10

Most reception and nursery classes have a Shed load of sparky Elsa dresses that the boys can wear.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/02/2022 18:11

I bet they also shoved it under cultural capital and literacy thus ticking several boxes at once

Almost certainly - worse still, the kind of deranged committees I mentioned may well have "explained" how the shows link into these important aspects, if only so the schools had some excuse ready for angry parents

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:12

This was the teachers projecting.

Jijithecat · 24/02/2022 18:13

I don't think the issue with the name is kids going on Urban Dictionary, the issue is that the name is derogatory towards women. You're constantly telling us that DQ's are fun and sparkly rather than misogynistic stereotypes. Their stage name tells us otherwise.
WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:14

Yes it may have also been "evidence" for some sort of quality mark.

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:17

Any drag queen themed thing in schools excludes girls.

Lennyllama · 24/02/2022 18:17

I couldn’t agree more!

The Safe Schools Alliance agrees with you too.

@WarriorN It is part of ‘celebrating differences in the community’ week. This was all we were told about Tuesday. Yesterday was about celebrating all the different families at the school. It’s funny how the religious families weren’t considered on Tuesday.

Ofsted……..stonewall…….. need I say more.

Read Glimmer. The links are incredible.

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:31

"pathway into the imaginative, messy, and rule-breaking aspects of drag for children.”

From that article.

Well, boys. Not girls. And again, eyfs is supposed to give opportunities for messy creative age appropriate play.

I dispute the imaginative aspects of drag. 1) Ant and Dec now do it and 2) I can think of way more imaginative practitioners to go into schools. Who've been badly hit by the the pandemic.

WarriorN · 24/02/2022 18:33

celebrating differences in the community’

Ahhh drag queens are part of the everyday school community now! Of course. How silly of me.

I'm wracking my brains of any of the dads at school who wear drag Hmm
