you shouldn't be surprised if they get a transvestite in to speak to your children?
Ok, so forget drag for one minute, for this comment... Because transvestitism is not just drag...
I wouldn't care if a transvestite came in. As far as I'm aware that term is just an outdated way of saying "cross-dresser". If someone came into school, who was a man and wore dresses, to give a speech about, say, how clothes are for anyone and they can wear whatever they like, that wouldn't be a bad thing. Actually that would fit "this is me" as it would be someone wearing what they want despite society telling them it's wrong and they should "be a real man".
Transvestite is not synonymous with drag or with autogynephilia and kink. It's literally just someone who wears clothes unhindered by stereotypes, or maybe even just prefers the clothes for the other sex. And they were thought of as weird and deviant because why would a man want to wear women's clothes? Must be nefarious.
Taking issue with someone for being a transvestite/cross-dresser (if what they are wearing is appropriate!!!) just reinforces sex stereotypes.
I wouldn't even say a drag queen is a "transvestite" as they don't live their everyday lives wearing women's clothes etc, it's an act.
But no, what would be the issue with a cross-dresser specially, if they were talking about how you don't have to be confined to traditional clothes for your sex? Boys are still shamed for wanting to wear princess dresses ffs.
