What are your views on a drag queen visiting a primary school for the day? Think thigh high leather boots with short revealing dresses and a dance show. The drag queen spent the day at school. Did a show for KS2 and then went around to individual classes to read a story book. The school had a themed dress up day. The theme was This is Me. Parents were not informed that this would be happening and were not given the option to opt in or out of the experience. The school has a very diverse mix of cultures and religions. This particular queen is easily found online, the kids were told their stage name and their content is rather steamy.

YANBU- It’s inappropriate
YABU- It’s appropriate

I have name changed for this.

Sod it, I’m going to post the link. It’s less than 4 minutes. And those 4 minutes make me want to vomit.

Safeguarding is bloody important. Not exposing kids to sexualised content is important. It has nothing to do with being a prude, lacking in diversity or whatever other bullshit terms get thrown about. It’s about seeing kids through to adulthood, as safely as possible. No children should be subjected to adults telling them that “this is ok”.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 24/02/2022 01:08

think it's really unfair this keeps being thrown out, would the same safeguarding thing be shouted about the local beekeeper visiting or a farmer?
Agree

Just because DQs usually do adult shows doesn't mean they don't cater to younger audiences
Yes, they don't do adult shows for a younger audience.

Cleanbedlinen12 · 24/02/2022 01:12

Umm so do people in swimsuits, but ballet dancers aren’t wearing a very sexualised dres s with a ridiculous cleavage and fetish boots. I think it’s jarring. I feel as if it’s kind of aggressive too. Sort of an anger at how men see women so I’m going to make it extreme sort of thing.

Furries · 24/02/2022 01:12

@EeeICouldRipATissue

That is a new low! Even for you What, why? Was I referring to you? If not, why take it so personally? I do think a lot of people would have a problem with a lesbian or a gay couple '' out'' together reading stories and/or talking about their lives. Unless you're saying homophobia isn't a problem?!
Nope, just that it’s a low blow to assume that objecting to DQ means that people will also object to those in same-sex relationships. You make your views known elsewhere on other matters, so stating shite like this gets noticed.

I think most on this thread would feel really offended that you’re alluding to the fact that a number of them are homophobic.

Hence the low blow comment.

Hope that’s clear enough.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/02/2022 01:16

Let X equal the number of people in the population who object to DQST in schools and libraries.

Let Y equal the number of people in the population who object to a lesbian couple reading stories in schools and libraries.

Can anyone supply reasoning why Y would be greater than X? I rather think it's smaller.

If you haven't, speculating that you think some people would object to a lesbian couple is irrelevant, given that no-one seems to care about the number of people who object to DQST!

Furries · 24/02/2022 01:16

@Bintymcbintface

Nobody is saying that safeguarding isn't important, of course it is and I am sure that the school were careful to make sure that the DQ was properly vetted and checked to be around children. I think it's really unfair this keeps being thrown out, would the same safeguarding thing be shouted about the local beekeeper visiting or a farmer?

I've said it countless times, just because DQs usually do adult shows doesn't mean they don't cater to younger audiences. Kids probably found the man in the dress funny.

If you think drag queens are making a mockery of women and feminity that's on you, a child isn't in harms way seeing a DQ reading a book.

Fuck me - so, we’ve had zookeepers and now bee keepers and farmers.

I’m interested to see what other occupations come up next.

Though a beekeeper in that attire would be a very brave soul - and would be justified in charging a shit load of money for honey harvested while dressed like that 😂

Do beekeepers perform adult entertainment now? Confused

It's not just the clothes themselves, either.

Drag is not just people dressed up. It is about sexuality. The concept is about sexuality.

So it's not appropriate entertainment in an elementary school. Even if that isn't mentioned, the concept of drag is something the kids won't understand and it's exploitative because of that.

@TheUsualShitshow

Why the ACTUAL fuck is it always storytelling? What's the link?! Is it just a lazy excuse to get someone who isn't an educator in the bloody gates?
I think it’s because there’s LITERALLY nothing else a DQ could do in a school/classroom.

I mean they clearly can’t do what this do for literally any other audience, i.e. their routine. Right?

And they can’t even engage with the kids in the playground - kick a ball around, or go on the seesaw, because their shoes and outfits are so completely inappropriate.

What else is left?

Story-fucking-telling.

There actually aren’t enough 🙄🙄 in the world.

I didn't though.
I said people.
As in some people would no doubt have a problem with lesbian or gay couples being out talking about themselves or reading a story which is what someone said should be done instead.
(Not me, but some would)

Not '' those that object to DQs. ''
That's your spin and take on what I actually said.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 24/02/2022 01:23

But they didn't, they wore a dress and read a kids book. Others perceptions of drag has turned what was probably quite fun/funny into something sinister, not me
Exactiy

Bintymcbintface · 24/02/2022 01:23

You really think this DQ showed up and put on the sort of show they'd do for an adult audience?

What does ‘cater to a younger audience’ mean?

Read them a story?

What else can they do? Any other talents?

Because I don’t see what’s so amazing about doing something most of their parents do for them every single day anyway.

No. They read the kids a book.

Scintillating.

Furries · 24/02/2022 01:26

@EeeICouldRipATissue

think you'll find zero zooming is necessary if you're looking at his official page I'm on about the photos posted on here we were told to look at and to see were inappropriate.
But that’s beside the point, surely? HT looks at the acts own SM page, no zooming in necessary - surely it’s then very simple to think “yeah, definitely not this act”.

Some of the mental gymnastics on various threads are nuts.

MoFro · 24/02/2022 01:27

I’d be fuming too! Parents should have been told and allowed to remove kids if they chose to.
Complain in writing, and get media attention!
Sick of all this woke BS!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 24/02/2022 01:27

I really must try and get some sleep!

I hope @Lennyllama you get a good response from school and your concerns taken on board. I hope you can keep us updated if so, but understand if you want to step away. I think the support on this thread shows your concerns are justified and well founded Thanks

Bintymcbintface · 24/02/2022 01:27

Yet somehow worthy of complaints and letters to mps 🤷‍♀️
