What are your views on a drag queen visiting a primary school for the day? Think thigh high leather boots with short revealing dresses and a dance show. The drag queen spent the day at school. Did a show for KS2 and then went around to individual classes to read a story book. The school had a themed dress up day. The theme was This is Me. Parents were not informed that this would be happening and were not given the option to opt in or out of the experience. The school has a very diverse mix of cultures and religions. This particular queen is easily found online, the kids were told their stage name and their content is rather steamy.

YANBU- It’s inappropriate

I have name changed for this.

Completely unacceptable.

There shouldn't be a representative from the world of adult entertainment performing in any capacity in a school, much less a primary school.

No strippers or lapdancers reading to the kids in a sparkly dress.
No porn stars.
No Anne Summers reps.
No fans only stars.
And no drag Queens.

I've worked at a venue that had drag shows. Bloody good fun, very successful.
We would've been shut down if we had a group of school kids come to the show, even if it was toned down.

Entertainment from the adult world has no place whatsoever in children's education.
That is not the way to promote diversity at all.

I don't understand how this is happening in schools from time to time.

The school I currently work in had to run an end of term staff party past the governors and make sure it complied with all kinds of crap. We were also asked not to go too ott with dress code as we had to keep in mind that the reputation of the school was at stake.

I'd be very surprised if those who made this decision weren't didn't face consequences for this poor judgement.

alphabetsoup1980 · 23/02/2022 18:28

Wouldn't care in the slightest!!!

MangyInseam · 23/02/2022 18:31

@Puzzledandpissedoff

Just catching up on the repulsive "Rainbow Dildo Monkey" act put on for the kids, and thinking again that we need a vomit emoticon on here

I'd ask why nobody had the sense to step forward and stop what was happening, except I strongly suspect they were all terrified of being labelled bigots - the same response I'd expect to follow any complaint OP makes

I am sure this is true. And I understand it. Some of this stuff comes up at my workplace and I am always torn because I do actually need a job.

But even so, you have to wonder, who are the people, the school heads and such, who think - yes, this is what our school needs. A rainbow dildo monkey.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/02/2022 18:39

Who indeed - though some may well regard it as due warning about where not to send their DCs

In fairness I believe Redbridge school claimed they didn't know what the act would be because it was "arranged by someone else", but then to borrow a hackneyed phrase they would say that wouldn't they?
And it still doesn't answer why nobody had the courage to step in during the act, accusations or not ... after all the performers apologised afterwards, so presumably an objection at the time wouldn't have been badly received

Except if the local Head's experience of refusing even to have them is anything to go by, it almost certainly would have been

@TheUsualShitshow

I find the 'logic' behind deletions inexplicable, I wouldn't stress about it.
Thank you
ScrollingLeaves · 23/02/2022 18:53

I haven’t rtft but in case no one has posted this already this is a drag Queen saying why he thinks this is the wrong thing for children.

ScrollingLeaves · 23/02/2022 18:55

This is worth looking at:

LauriePartridge4Eva · 23/02/2022 18:56

Feminist women always said abusive men would make merry once the gender movement and its advocates put down foundations, and they have....in schools, hospitals, the third sector, government, hospitality etc etc etc...

I honestly think all we can do now is keep our own children safe and keep asking the schools what they have planned if they aren't going to tell us. We can't hold back the tide but we CAN protect our own.

DryOldCaper · 23/02/2022 19:09

@Bintymcbintface

Yeah sparkly dress tacky boots
So no worries then about letting parents know what’s happening - rather than keeping it as some dirty little secret - as you would with anything else.
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 23/02/2022 19:20

Safeguarding is not just about physical abuse it's also exposing kids to experiences or topics they are too emotionally immature to process.

Drag is a sexualised caricature of a woman so yes you can add "unhelpful stereotype " to why this isn't good.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 23/02/2022 19:21

@SoftwareDev

Serious question……

Would it be okay for a female teacher/parent to read to the children dressed like that? I seriously doubt it. So why is it okay for a DQ?

Also, it is my understanding that DQs are a form of ADULT entertainment so again - how is it appropriate?

Or, a teacher in a naughty nurse outfit?
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 23/02/2022 19:23

@doadeer

I would love to see someone disabled doing a section for this is me. The go to is always drag Queens/ transgender now. It's so limited
Unfortunately that person isn't fabulous enough Sad
isadoradancing123 · 23/02/2022 19:24

I think it is totally inappropriate, you say the school is diverse with different cultures and relegions, hopefully the muslim parents will complain and make a fuss and stand up for their beliefs as recently it seems that parents of mainstream relegions are much too accepting of this nonsence

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 23/02/2022 19:26

@doadeer

I guess aswell Little Mix have a message of empowerment for women and girls. When I've watched drag race it's usually about gay male empowerment?
Spot on.

Drag does diddly squat to empower or lift women. We're the joke.

ListeningButNotHearing · 23/02/2022 19:29

Fucking furious.

CIaireFraser · 23/02/2022 19:40

Drag does diddly squat to empower or lift women. We're the joke.

This, a million times this.

Any woman who thinks drag is ok is also ok with themselves being the punchline.

Willyoujustbequiet · 23/02/2022 19:43

I'd complain and report to ofsted.

It's so misogynistic. If blackface is inappropriate then surely womanface is too

frostedfruit · 23/02/2022 19:53

Really bored of the obsession with spending copious amounts of times teaching children to completely accept a man with a beard wearing makeup and a wig. Who cares telltale? If I walked around looking a bit absurd people would point and goggle at me too. I think we'd be much better off spending this precious time helping children understand much more important life altering stigmas such as disability, downs syndrome, spinabifida, blindness, deafness etc. At least you can wear something different if you don't like the looks/comments you get. People with genetic conditions birthmarks or disabilities don't have that luxury.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 23/02/2022 20:04

@TonyBravo

We have a famous drag Queen in the family, so obviously I'm bias however.

There is no way a DQ walked into a school and performed the same adult routine they do on stage every night. They quite obviously had a much more toned down persona to spend time in a school.

Very much the same way that when I'm working a Saturday night bar that's loud, rowdy and crude, I will behave one way, vs a family Sunday lunchtime bar when then are kids and their families, pensioners etc trying to eat a roast, I will behave totally differently. That's common sense.

You might think so, but if the video evidence of Drag queen story time in various libraries etc is any guide, then common sense need not apply. They tone down nothing.
UnevenBooks · 23/02/2022 20:13

Some DQs can look more panto. That would have been more appropriate.

That, or something completely artistic and wacky and fun.

I think WHAT THE F###!!

UnevenBooks · 23/02/2022 20:14

A revealing sparkly dress with thigh-high PVCs is really not appropriate and also really boring!!!

Westfacing · 23/02/2022 20:20

A pantomime dame-type performer might be acceptable, depending on the script, but this looks to be very sexualised at least in appearance.

A woman teacher wouldn't last long if she turned up for work dressed like that for the classroom - why is it OK for a man to do so?

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 23/02/2022 20:21

Yes because those wouldn't give primary age children nightmares at all Hmm

The green one is positively terrifying.

UnevenBooks · 23/02/2022 20:22

Yes because those wouldn't give primary age children nightmares at all hmm

My child wouldn't, no, but you have a point, some kids might find it scary.

It doesn't have to look exactly like the photos I posted, does it? Just saying it doesn't all have to be sexual, they could do something more funny or out-there.
