AIBU but isn't it a bit daft to end all Covid restrictions so soon.....

I'm pretty worried TBH, particularly the move from people not having to isolate if they have Covid. Let's face it a lot of people won't be able to afford to isolate! Surely this will simply allow the virus to circulate more widely - so more people with Covid, and more vulnerable people with Covid. What happens when the vaccine immunity starts to wane? What happens if we get a really dodgy variant? Why can't the government impose mandatory mask wearing on transport and shops? This would stop spread, I'd really like to hear views on this please.

@GirlInACountrySong, yes I have the knowledge. Given that people with covid don't have to isolate, some don't know they are positive because of the lack of tests, and no one has to even wear a mask,my knowledge tells me I shouldn't go out ever again.

But, I'm 71, I probably have five or six years left. Others may think that, well, she's only lost five or six years.,but these few years are very important and sweet for me.

I don't want them cut short by staying home for them.

Once again, we are shown that the economy is more important than a life. Any life

If we get a bad variant then they can always re-evaluate. At this stage, there are no real benefits to restrictions and lots of downsides.

The U.K. has spent circa 400 billion on covid response measures. It won't be people at your point in life paying that back either. Some acknowledgment of that impact wouldn't go amiss.

TheKeatingFive · 22/02/2022 22:19

Sorry bold fail

Who has told you you have 6 years left to live?

Armadeus · 22/02/2022 22:21

@Using4532 weird. I didn't know lockdown labour was in power. Thought the tories sanctioned it ?

Tee20x · 22/02/2022 22:21

Got to get on with it at some point. When would be the right time? 3 years? 5 years?

Not to mention the damage to MH, children's development and education, dementia patients who have deteriorated for lack of stimulation, businesses gone bust, services down the pan the list is endless.
XenoBitch · 22/02/2022 22:21

The restrictions had to be lifted at some point. It seems some people wont be happy until we reach total zero Covid.

Labour would still have us in lockdown and are much more likely to lockdown if in power that Tory party, if Labour had been in power we would likely be in almost constant lockdown

youkiddingme · 22/02/2022 22:26

I think they should have kept masks obligatory for hospitals and doctors. Clinically vulnerable people who cannot be vaccinated or for whom the vaccine doesn't work can avoid many places, but they cannot avoid medical facilities. It wouldn't be a huge hardship to wear a mask in those places.

bellac11 · 22/02/2022 22:26

Im trying to reply to someone but when I try to paste the copied name, it changes the name to someone else!!

I would be genuinely interested in what the updated advice is for people who are CV and CEV but who are not immunosuppressed.

If those people are jabbed correctly and take their medications that they are on for their comorbid diagnoses I havent heard that they would be significantly more at risk than the average. Certainly that applies to me and my OH I think - well no one has told us it doesnt

Therefore you do what you did pre covid.

Using4532 · 22/02/2022 22:26

You only have to look to Wales who have had harsher regulations all the way through

And thats never going to happen, has anyone seen what is happening in Hong Kong at the moment, its a car crash because they are trying to observe zero covid and as a result their entire country (region) has broken down
Zet1 · 22/02/2022 22:31

@GirlInACountrySong

the cases have dramatically dropped....even since masks were ditched
Because people are not testing Grin
bellac11 · 22/02/2022 22:32

Perhaps it is because people are not testing as much, so how do you account for the huge drops of people with it in hospital?

Arnia · 22/02/2022 22:34

Two years is soon?! We really need to get back to normal if just to stop people predisposed to anxiety from losing their marbles any further. If your immunity wanes boost away to your hearts content. This is not a dangerous disease for the vast majority of people. This shit has to stop!

nocoolnamesleft · 22/02/2022 22:38

YANBU. The next variant may be worse.

flumposie · 22/02/2022 22:40

Education will still be disrupted because most teachers I work with have said they will not go in to teach in crowded classrooms if they have covid ( whether ill or not). It's utter madness.

Just had a read. Looks really tough

Covid is never going to go away, so there will always be the threat of a new variant. Should we have some form of restrictions forever?
2X4B523P · 22/02/2022 22:42

@Zet1

Well deaths are nearly half what they were when masks no longer mandatory, are they not testing for death too?

justasking111 · 22/02/2022 22:43

To put it in perspective five million died with covid comorbidities in many cases. Spanish flu it's estimated 100 million died, young fit people not vulnerable . We've been very lucky

BulletTrain · 22/02/2022 22:45

I've not had covid yet. My son has been hospitalised twice this year with breathing issues. I'm quite pissed off that my boss is now theoretically entitled to make my 2 colleagues come and sit in the office with me while knowingly positive. (He won't).

Beyond that - I'll just wear a mask on planes and trains, keep washing my hands, and get on with life.

Wordlewobble · 22/02/2022 22:47

I totally agree with you OP. He is rushing into this.

I am CEV and ending everything now terrifies me just for some positive PR and try to distract from his antics is absolute madness.
