AIBU but isn't it a bit daft to end all Covid restrictions so soon.....

I'm pretty worried TBH, particularly the move from people not having to isolate if they have Covid. Let's face it a lot of people won't be able to afford to isolate! Surely this will simply allow the virus to circulate more widely - so more people with Covid, and more vulnerable people with Covid. What happens when the vaccine immunity starts to wane? What happens if we get a really dodgy variant? Why can't the government impose mandatory mask wearing on transport and shops? This would stop spread, I'd really like to hear views on this please.
@Girlinacountrysong, and others.

How do I feel that my potential death is a price you are willing to pay so you don't have to cover for infectious colleagues? Guess!

All clinically vulnerable people have been thrown under the bus. Or, in Johnson's words, left to other people's sense of responsibility. If they posses such a thing.
its been 2 years

you have the knowledge and equipment to protect yourself

plenty of CEV on the other threads very pleased that restrictions are going. you have not been 'thrown under a bus' get a grip!

AnEpisodeOfEastenders · 22/02/2022 21:25

Not a moment too soon. The majority have paid the price to protect the minority. Everyone has had time to get vaccinated, boosted and prepared. No more testing, no more isolation, no more masks, no more sacrifices.

bellac11 · 22/02/2022 21:26

@Diamondsareforever123

i apologise for putting this topic on the wrong thread. I'm a bit surprised by the reaction, I thought people would be more concerned about scientific data and contagion - but I'm obviously in the minority. I think Johnson is making a popularist move....and I think it's scary.
What data do you mean? - everything is dropping... those with it, those in hospital with it and those dying from it.

What else would you want to see?

WonderfulYou · 22/02/2022 21:26

YANBU I can’t wait to get back to normal but last time they scrapped almost all restrictions we ended up having to close schools again and go back in a mini lockdown.

I don’t see why they can’t scrap isolation periods for non positive people. Then if all goes well after a couple of weeks scrap the isolation period for positive people.

I’m happy for it to be done but it just needs to bd don’t slower so we don’t have to reintroduce anything.

Im not positive, am I meant to be isolating?
Figgyboa · 22/02/2022 21:32

So soon!? I haven't worked in over two years, my industry was absolutely decimated by Covid. We are seeing light at the end of the tunnel and you want to keep us in it. No way, time to move on but still take relative precautions

2X4B523P · 22/02/2022 21:32

Why can't the government impose mandatory mask wearing on transport and shops?

Thought this was a zombie thread for a moment, not sure if you noticed but they were mandated for a period of time before stopping for a while and then mandating them again. Now they are no longer mandatory again. They are even un-mandating them in Scotland next month, I'm sure Nicola hasn't agreed to do it because Boris asked her to deflect from the parties.

Oh and there HAS been a gradual removal of restrictions, or would you prefer another couple of years?

Using4532 · 22/02/2022 21:33

Not a moment too soon, I certainly won't be voting for the lockdown Labour Party next time

TellMeMoreHellebore · 22/02/2022 21:33

Really good news about Scotland as well

WonderfulYou · 22/02/2022 21:35

Im not positive, am I meant to be isolating?

If you’ve been in close contact with someone positive and you’ve not had two jabs then you should be.

At my workplace I have only seen a couple of my unvaccinated colleagues for 2/3 days since the start of January as every time they come in someone else tests positive and they have to isolate for another 10 days, even though they’re not positive themselves. Which is absurd.

FangsForTheMemory · 22/02/2022 21:36

@VelvetChairGirl

your vaccine immunity wears off after a couple of months and doesnt offer full coverage anyway.

get over it, we always knew it was here to stay and would melt into the background like the Spanish flu did.

'Get over it'. How charming.

'Like the Spanish flu did.' Is that the Spanish flu that killed more than 50 million people?

You're not worried about long COVID then?

DaphneSprucesPippasClack · 22/02/2022 21:38

Thought experiment. Imagine both of the following are true for you. You have no spare money & someone you love and or live with is CEV. Not working isn't an option. Free Testing isn't available. How do you now keep them safe from covid?

Ponoka7 · 22/02/2022 21:39

"The majority have paid the price to protect the minority. "

That's not what was happening. We were minimising the risk of dangerous mutations. We were also ensuring that the health service continued to run for all of us.

"It is certainly time to move on,in fact sooner would have been better"

How so when we had hospitals under special measures, long ambulance wait times and A&E departments closed? How would that have worked over winter?

I think it's the right time to have a trial run this summer. I'm sceptical that we won't need restrictions for winter again, though. Omicron was too infectious for masks to be of much use. There have been scientists bringing up the possibility of another varient, but aren't calling for restrictions to stay. I'm ECV, I've got my PCR test sent by the government, if I display real symptoms. I've also got two packs of LFTs, which I'd use first if I felt very unwell. I would hope that other ECV people are planning ahead.

Wizzbangfizz · 22/02/2022 21:40

I'd read one of the 1.3 million threads on this already OP. Usually split between doomsayers screaming selfish and those who want a blanket lifting of restrictions.

I'm in the latter camp and will never test or wear a mask again unless forced to for travel. If I'm unwell I'll stay at home. I did what was required when it was required and no more now.

DaphneSprucesPippasClack · 22/02/2022 21:40

Adding. No one wears masks anymore. No one isolates. How do you keep CEV safe.

It seems that unless you have to deal with this there are people that are happy to 'go back to normal'.

Some of you will find yourself loving someone who is CEV. You might well find it changes how you see the whole situation.

UrsulaBursula · 22/02/2022 21:40

It’s been two bloody years! Too soon!?! Hmm oh please

MrsEdnaWelthorpe · 22/02/2022 21:49

@DaphneSprucesPippasClack Some of us are CEV, and I'm sick of being used to try to guilt trip people. I'm fine with restrictions ending, I've had four jabs and have access to antivirals. What should I be waiting for?

DearlyBeloathed · 22/02/2022 21:50

No, not too soon. At all.

Bonkerz · 22/02/2022 21:51

There comes a point when we need to protect ourselves. Make our own decisions and choices.
If you want to wear a mask to help protect yourself then do so. Stay 2m away from people and avoid crowded places etc then do so.
For me personally I won't be testing after Thursday. I can't afford to take time off. As usual for me if I feel poorly I will avoid crowded places or licking peoples faces.

We don't test for flu or norovirus or other things that cause issues.
I will continue to vaccinate.

DeckTheHallsWithGin · 22/02/2022 21:56

@bellac11

I know others have made similar points but I really cant get my head around people saying 'but we should have done this gradually'..... what is not gradual about it? It is gradual

People who are ill and entitled to sick pay will be able to take time off. People who are ill and not entitled to sick pay are exactly where they were pre covid

I thought one of the things that society needed to happen was a mild variant that spreads easily to increase transmission which also boosts immunity and people have done nothing but complain that it will be spreading!!!

I work full time and am immune suppressed. Entitled to 20 days sick per year. Work place has 2000 people of all ages from all over the world. Can’t avoid contact with the others. What should I do? Get fired for not turning up or risk death by going?

I think its something like 92% of adults have had 2 jabs so its virtually no one that would need to isolate if you have been in close contact. Well not no one but so few as to be rare.

Not exactly the same but the best I can answer is that my partner and I are both CV, not CEV. Neither of us test regularly, meaning rarely. We've worked the whole way through.
TellMeMoreHellebore · 22/02/2022 22:02

very small percentage of the country is CEV. Does that group really want the entire country to keep these restrictions going indefinitely? I doubt it

bellac11 · 22/02/2022 22:03

I cant seem to reply to some posts for some reason (I find this site quite difficult to use!!)

In answer to being immunosuppressed, the same as what you did pre covid when there were a myriad of viruses and bugs around just like there always is.

DeckTheHallsWithGin · 22/02/2022 22:09

There is no support for those of us who are ECV. I either work or I don’t get paid. The relaxation of restrictions means I am highly likely to die if I go to work and get exposed or I stay at home, lose my job and don’t get paid because I’m voluntarily jobless. So what should I do? All because there are selfish idiots who can’t be arsed to wear a mask while they buy their fags.
