On way to A&E with 3yo

Hadharra · 21/02/2022 20:52

Posting here for traffic. 3yo with high temp, legs hurting, head hurting, wants all lights off, pale, clammy, stomach hurts. In car on the way now. 111 really good and he seems to have perked up since calpol. They're worried about his leg pain and light sensitivity. I know my son and think he just wanted the lights off (hoping!) but not taking any risks. Still have a horrid gut feeling that I'll embarrass myself and he will be fine when we get there. Feel a bit sick. Anyone around?

Oh @Hadharra let us know what they say when you get there. I will be waiting to hear your update x

I too hope you follow up with 'I feel silly as it was nothing too' as that will mean he is okay!

I would absolutely 100% taken my kids in the same situation, you could not have had a moment to take your eyes off them tonight otherwise. You all all in the best place

Mumtumtastic · 21/02/2022 20:56

Hiya, I think you’re definitely making the right call and I would do the same in your situation. Could be meningitis, so best get them checked ASAP. May well not be and hopefully not, but some of the symptoms you mention match those to watch out for. Is there a rash?

Peachesandcream15 · 21/02/2022 20:57

Get him checked out.

I've never been made to feel bad by a doctor for seeking help re little kids.

X

Ludo19 · 21/02/2022 20:57

Definitely doing the right thing and I hope your wee boy is OK.

Mmmmdanone · 21/02/2022 20:58

That sounds so scary! Hope everything is OK.

BrutusMcDogface · 21/02/2022 20:58

Ah, I hope he’s ok. I would definitely have done the same thing. Flowers

Dunitagain · 21/02/2022 20:59

Axcis · 21/02/2022 20:59

Last year son had tummy ache, I insisted to see out of hours gp who sent us to a&e with suspected appendix.
It was not. It was nothing .I felt a bit stupid, but not sorry, better safe and peace of mind. Hope it's not busy for you.

Iwasonline · 21/02/2022 20:59

You're definitely doing the right thing. They sent an ambulance to my boy when he was three because he was unresponsive and floppy and sensitive to light. By the time he got to hospital he was as right as rain again

kindestregards · 21/02/2022 21:00

You're doing the right thing. I was fobbed off at A&E with my then 11 month old with very similar symptoms. Told it's probably viral and to come back in 4 days if fever not stopped. Went back the next day and refused to leave without tests. Spent a month in hospital he had a bacterial blood infection, meningitis and then endocarditis and I've never forgiven myself for letting them send us home.
You're going to the right place and it's likely probably just a virus but it's your job as mama to make sure.

SockFluffInTheBath · 21/02/2022 21:00

Another one saying you’re definitely doing the right thing. I do hope you’re feeling silly (but relieved) soon Flowers

FantasticFebruary · 21/02/2022 21:01

You're doing the right thing. Could easily be meningitis!!

& DO NOT be afraid to call 999 & go back again later if they say he's ok but seems worse to you later!! He's only little, they do often 'perk up' when ambulance, Drs, nurses make a fuss of them, but it doesn't mean they're well.

Let us know how you get on!

Biggest hugs!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/02/2022 21:01

The best outcome is you look silly (you won’t) and he’s fully fine/ remember that !

NatriumChloride · 21/02/2022 21:03

Well done, OP, you’re absolutely doing the right thing. Never ever take a chance when it comes to the kids. You’ll never regret taking your child in. You might regret staying home.

Hopefully it’s nothing and your child improves. Keep us updated - we’re here for you. Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. Xx

Definitely the right decision! I hope your little one is on the mend soon.

picklebum2011 · 21/02/2022 21:06

Hope he’s ok

Toddlerteaplease · 21/02/2022 21:06

Better that he perks up as soon as you get there, than is really Ill at home.

newcarnewhouse · 21/02/2022 21:07

Absolutely doing the right. Had something similar a couple of years ago with dd who was 3 at the time. Called 111 and they said they were sending an ambulance, I said i
Didn't think he needed an ambulance and we drove to A&E, without 30 mins of being a&e he was right as reign and playing with the toys. Turned out he did have tonsillitis and needed antibiotics.
Hope everything is okay, better to be safe by getting him checked

Sexnotgender · 21/02/2022 21:07
