How much is a cinema ticket round your way?

My local multiplex charges about £15 for a standard screening of an evening for adults- which I think is about double what it should be...

And thought may be a terrible side-effect of illegal streaming and downloading...

But on here a poster up in Lancs says they only pay about £4 for the same...

Does it make me seem old if I can remember when we paid 6d, (2.5p) if you were feeling flush it was 9d in the circle. It was a bit of a flea pit.

GougeAway · 21/02/2022 22:49

£4.99 or £5.99 (depending on time of showing) at Vue with reclining seats and free parking. We’re in the SW where wages are low though.

Whydoesthecatalwaysdothat · 21/02/2022 22:49

Cineworld £9.99 plus booking fee of 75p
Very nice local independent cinema £10 plus £2 booking fee

I really like going to the cinema but it does seem pretty expensive these days.

Piggyk2 · 21/02/2022 22:51

Blue light card holders are offering discounts on certain cinemas currently.

clpsmum · 21/02/2022 22:51

I've just paid £14.80 this evening for me and my son

RampantIvy · 21/02/2022 22:54

£4.99 at Vue, and £6.50 at the local independent cinema.

Womencanlift · 21/02/2022 23:05

Another Cineworld unlimited cardholder here which is about £20 a month and I use it weekly. Love going to the cinema and we tend to go on a Sunday afternoon. 2 films a month and you have your money back

I refuse to pay extra for IMAX,4DX etc (done 4DX once and if wasnt worth the extra imo). Although I will be booking something on the IMAX this Saturday as no extra charge as part of their promotional day. Want to see what the fuss is about

Jody21 · 21/02/2022 23:35

I'm shocked at some of those prices to be honest. How can they justify charging so much?

I'm in Ireland so not the same as a big UK city but my lovely local cinema charges 5 euro. They have a Sunday matinee for 3 euro but thats usually packed with noisy kids so we tend to avoid that!

ukborn · 21/02/2022 23:36

I paid £17.50 for IMAX in SW London (not the Waterloo imax).

hamsterchump · 21/02/2022 23:37

£8 normal price, £5 on Mondays and we almost always use Meerkat Movies so with that it's £8 for two people which I think is really good value. I love the cinema.

LunaMuffinTop · 21/02/2022 23:56

I’m in the NW and the vue by me is £4.99 online or £5.99 in the cinema.

jobhunter7 · 22/02/2022 10:07

@Jody21

I really think it shouldn't be much over £8.

We only have a cineworld close by, think we’d have to drive a good 30 mins to get to any other cinema. It’s £10 for an adult and £6 for a child. They’re having a cineworld day on Saturday so it’s £3 a ticket for all ages, they do this sometimes on a Saturday morning as well and that’s pretty much the only time I’ll take my DC.

tttigress · 22/02/2022 10:23

Not sure how much it is now, but o used to view it as a cheap night out when I was a teenager/early 20s.

lucillelarusso · 22/02/2022 10:26

The Vue £5
The odeon £9
The showcase £12
The Everyman £15

claracluck1978 · 22/02/2022 20:52

We're on the south coast and our local is an Odeon. We've paid £42 today to watch Sing2.
With drinks and snacks on top that's made it an expensive afternoon for 2 adults and 2 kids.

Kitkat151 · 22/02/2022 20:57

Vue 4.99 ( that’s where I take grandkids)
Everyman 14 ( date night with partner)

HomeEdRocks18 · 22/02/2022 23:54

£4.99 at Vue if booked online, £5.99 at the cinema.
£5.99 at Cineworld. Both in Plymouth.
£8.99 at local independent cinema

middleager · 23/02/2022 00:02

We use Meerkat or the Charity Worker discount site. It's too pricey to go otherwise.
Last time we went, it was frustrating, others kicking seats, talking.

I love the cinema, but have compromised with a larger Oled TV and Netflix etc.
I'll make an exception for big films and we have been known to Imax it for the likes of Avengers Endgame.

Tequilamakesmehappy · 23/02/2022 00:15

£8.50 for adult ticket. £4.50 on crazy Tuesday. Kids ticket £5.50, teens ticket £6.50.

JaceLancs · 23/02/2022 00:18

Vue £7.99 for luxury seats

Myadhdusername · 23/02/2022 00:20

£30 for a family ticket (2+2) at the Showcase here with the nice seats. It's closest and the cheaper ones further away aren't worth it after travel costs - I would imagine.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 23/02/2022 09:46

Just to say, Cineworld have an offer this Saturday -£3 per seat, any movie, includes IMAX.

longwayoff · 23/02/2022 10:30

Everyman over the road so no transport or parking costs. Is about £15 or so, haven't been for a while, go on my own occasionally. Wouldn't contemplate a family trip though, far too expensive.
