It's very bad here in sefton, much worse than Friday when we were on an Amber warning.

cobblers123 · 21/02/2022 09:09

Right down on the Hampshire coast, very, very windy at the moment and likely to continue until about 5pm ish today.

My roof tiles tend to clack when it gets really bad, I put ear plugs in when I go to bed as it would keep me awake otherwise.

Was going to go out but there's nothing I can't live without until tomorrow morning so I'm not going to go anywhere today.

solbunny · 21/02/2022 09:10

@RedToothBrush

There are numerous trees down around here so many local roads are also impassable. Thats if you can get around the local roads which are impassable due to flooding.
Oh yes, lots of severe flooding in the nearest town to me too!
BIWI · 21/02/2022 09:11

I think that the problem with trees blowing down isn't so much Storm Franklin, rather that Dudley and Eunice created so much damage and weakened them - Franklin is just coming along to finish them off Sad

All northern rail trains have been cancelled in the North west
Needmoresleep · 21/02/2022 09:14

BIWI, by chance I have just been speaking to a surveyor.

He says the combination of rain and wind will be a problem. The rain softens the soil, so more easy for the wind to blow trees over.

Storm Eunice was dry, at least where we are. Franklin came with some quite heavy rain.

Tulipvase · 21/02/2022 09:15

@RedToothBrush

There was a meme going around last week about the north v south and eunice.

On it there was a northerner going 'meh just a bit of rain, im off to work' (i paraphrase) and a southerner doing a good Lance Corporal Jones 'Dont Panic' routine.

I think, it has been well demonstrated.

Tell that to families of the four people that died during Eunice.
HesterShaw1 · 21/02/2022 09:18

Has any lofty twat come along telling you you're all snowflakes and it's just a bit of wind yet?

Here in West Cornwall it's been worse. We've had damage we didn't get during Eunice - crawling round with a bloody torch during 80mph winds. The sustained wind speed has been higher and more prolonged

Tulipvase · 21/02/2022 09:18

@Alexandra2001

145mph wind speed of the coast of Northern Ireland.
Really?

Met office showing highest gusts of 79mph at Capel Curig.

Livpool · 21/02/2022 09:19

Same in Liverpool- I have barely slept

Lovemusic33 · 21/02/2022 09:21

I’m in the SW too and it’s been so noisy, i think it’s more annoying because it hit during the night where as the last one was during the day, it kept me awake and now I’m in a sh*t mood.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 21/02/2022 09:23

South Wales, very noisy and windy much noisier than eunice and colder in the house imo.
Eunice had these sudden strong gusts but this is just constant.

LadyEloise1 · 21/02/2022 09:24

Dublin here and it's so windy.

I think storms are worse since they gave them names Grin
Before you'd just say "Gosh we've had a very windy week of it."
Now it's "Franklin was windier than Eunice but nothing like Ophelia !"

It also created gaps so that previously sheltered trees no longer had a baffle barrier of the now blown down trees to reduce the strength of the wind when it reached them.
lightand · 21/02/2022 09:26

Lost parts of rooves on old outbuildings. Insurance Co wouldnt insure us last year on the older buldings. Ought to have been a warning to us to keep them in a better state I suppose, going forward. Not sure of how much all the repairs will cost.

Moonlightdust · 21/02/2022 09:46

East of England here - much worse than Friday. All the build up to Eunice. I cancelled all my plans when the first part of Friday was relatively calm and then we had a few hours of strong wind. It came in bursts but this seems relentless - the wind was going all night and is very noisy. I can’t believe this is milder than Eunice?

BIWI · 21/02/2022 09:48

We were stuck in Cardiff when Eunice hit and the rain was awful - it continued raining all the next day when we were able to drive back to London.

Possibly. However we also have the issue of how the wind speeds being actually recorded in the north west seem to be higher. (Ive checked my nearest met office officially recorded speeds. The numbers for last night are higher than last week. It will be interesting to see if this is the case for other stations in the NW).

And the issue of the saturated ground from all the rain, weakening stability of roots.

GracieLouFreeebush · 21/02/2022 09:56

I’m about to drive from leeds to Liverpool - I have no choice, leeds is relatively calm now. Is anyone along the m62 that can inform me if I need to be panicking or not?

WigglesWaggles · 21/02/2022 09:59

South east, had to drive in it yesterday to collect my son. 45 minutes each way and I was terrified. Pools of water everywhere. Wind forceable moving my car. Fast A roads lined with leaning trees. Fog. Total darkness due to powercuts. It was white knuckles all the way and I'm a confident driver. I had to get petrol before leaving and didn't even fill the tank because I physically couldn't stand there any longer.

mam0918 · 21/02/2022 10:01

I'm on the east side of the Pennines and honestly have barely noticed any storm.

There was a slight sprinkle of snow Friday morning, our recycling bin took a little wander down the street around Friday lunchtime.

Saturday we went to the beach and it was lovely, we had a picnic on the beach under clear blue skies.

Yesterday we had about 10 minutes of heavy sideways rain and it was grey but that's been about it.

The gale-force winds at the beginning of Feb did FAR more damage here, blew over most fences/gates, bins were completely gone (anything not tied down was gone) and most people had roof damage... builders got a lot of work though.

Elphame · 21/02/2022 10:01

Bad here last night and this morning.

Sounds way worse than Eunice here too and we were in the red area for that one (Somerset).

Christ such contempt for the South. I’m originally from Birmingham but moved down South sometime ago, it was horrific here on Friday, I’ve never experienced anything like it before, people were killed, trees falling down every where, the local community centre roof took right off along with a tree uprooted with half the pavement, people still without electricity, mothers with new borns worrying how to take care of them without power etc. It is terrible again here today but not as bad as Friday, I was in contact with relatives in the Midlands who thankfully didn’t get it as bad as we did on Friday, I’m really glad they didn’t experience what we did, as I am always sorry when any one any where suffers or struggles with what life is throwing at them. We have a yellow warning here today, it feels worse than that. People have suffered every where with these awful storms, to turn it into a competition is in poor taste. Have a go at the experts, the media & the way it’s being reported not the people who are having their life torn apart by this.
Titfortatfortit · 21/02/2022 10:03

We are on a yellow warning for wind yet it’s far worse with Franklin than the Orange warning with Eunice.

This has just happened.

Storm Franklin is driving me nuts !
Timeturnerplease · 21/02/2022 10:12

In Sussex. Finally got power back yesterday after being out since Friday morning. Put children to bed only for power to go out again overnight and 3yo to wake up howling because she ‘can’t see myself Mummy’ - it’s rural here so pitch black in her room. Took three hours to get her back to sleep.

Sodding Franklin.
