I slept all right but it is certainly noisy at the moment, don't know if Franklin is worse than Eunice. It's quite cold here today; I turned my heating down yesterday but will turn it up again.

JustSmallFry · 21/02/2022 10:15

Just the other side of the channel, but we felt it was worse than Eunice too

Yazoop · 21/02/2022 10:17

I’m in North East London and the wind is pretty noisy today, seems as bad or worse than Eunice on that front (although that might just be because of the direction it is going in). Though not as many bins flying about!

So much about the coverage of Eunice being because it is London and the South… isn’t it more that it impacted over a third of the population (I think something like 28 million people in the red alert zone)? I think they said London was put on a red alert because the scale of winds versus density of the population in an urban environment (eg lots of tall buildings and dense housing) meant they needed to sufficiently alert people given danger to life from debris? People sadly still died regardless but many more might have done if not for the alert and subsequent messaging.

This was the first time London has been under red under the current rating system… so hardly a common event, and a lot of dramatic footage (like the O2!) shows how damaging it was.

LowlandLucky · 21/02/2022 10:29

The noise of the wind was deafening here in S.W Scotland during the night, hide tide last night was scary. Sun is out now but the wind and waves are huge.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/02/2022 10:30

Same here, English NW coast.

EveryAvenue · 21/02/2022 10:40

My drive to work was absolutely horrific. 7-8 seem to be the worst of it here in Manchester. I couldn’t see out of my car at all! No heavy rain here now but still lots of wind

NoWordForFluffy · 21/02/2022 10:47

I think the timing of Franklin means that fewer people were out in it, it being the weekend / overnight. And we should be thankful for that, as I would think we'd have had more casualties had it been during a working day.

I'm not sure a red warning would've been appropriate, but amber was, certainly (particularly as we had amber last week for Eunice).

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 21/02/2022 10:48

Going mental in West Midlands atm

JaneJeffer · 21/02/2022 10:55

Thank Goodness it has passed here now. I'm in the west of Ireland and it was a terrible night.

Monopolyiscrap · 21/02/2022 10:59

My colleague can't get into work as a tree is blocking the road out of the village.

zingally · 21/02/2022 11:15

I'm in the midlands, and it was horrendous here yesterday evening! I was trying to watch Call The Midwife, but was actually watching a lampost over the dual carriageway out the back of mine, which was bending so far I did think it was going to fall.
It's calmed down a little bit this morning, but still pretty blowy.

I wanted to pop out for a few bits this afternoon, but I don't like driving in the wind (teeny tiny car!), so that's putting me off!

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 21/02/2022 11:24

No let up at all here in Cumbria - the gusts are so strong!

Lubeyboobyalt · 21/02/2022 11:36

still blowy here in Shropshire but sun is out and seems the worst is gone at least - can finally let the cat out

Cognoscenti · 21/02/2022 11:36

There were some stronger gusts than usual here, but nothing out of the ordinary and no visible damage... As far as I know no school or nursery closures nearby either. Everywhere around us seems to have had it bad though. DP was driving first thing and said it was gusty but nothing overly concerning.

BIWI · 21/02/2022 11:49

The reason there was so much in the media about London was because that region of the country had a red alert - which is very, very rare.

As did South Wales - and there was also plenty of that in the news too.

Monopolyiscrap · 21/02/2022 13:34

No it was mainly about London.
The media always cover London the most.
I think if the storm had not affected London we would have heard a lot less about it.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 21/02/2022 14:09

But I think the point people are trying to make us we get worse weather elsewhere and "only" yellow warnings.

Parts of the country were on amber yesterday but the predicted wind speeds were less than what our yellow area is receiving today.

Motorina · 21/02/2022 14:17

I'm in Suffolk and would call this a blustery old day. Yes, it's windy, but not abnormally so for a stormy day in winter. Where I am, Eunice was on a different level.

bellabasset · 21/02/2022 14:27

South Cornwall coast, it was very windy last night, although the suns shining there's still gusts of wind blowing around. The number of power cuts have doubled

venus7 · 22/02/2022 19:00

Cornwall here, not bad at all...but Eunice took at least 20 tiles off my roof, leaving gaping hole, and I sleep in the attic bedroom, so I'm now sleeping on an air bed in the living room. Trying to sleep, air leaking out slowly.

Bronguin · 22/02/2022 19:25

West Sussex here. We had a power cut for few hours, and the phone signal is rubbish. Thank goodness the power’s back on now. When are our ‘world leaders’ going to stop posturing with each other and take climate change seriously?!?

Tigger1895 · 22/02/2022 19:39

I was asleep under the pillow at 7am this morning and was woken up by the rain pelting against the window. I’m on the east coast of Ireland and that storm had well past. It looks like winter has finally arrived.

Diva66 · 22/02/2022 19:44

Same. Exhausted.

Hmm1234 · 22/02/2022 20:54

And it still can’t block out the noisy neighbours! 😂

LoisLane66 · 22/02/2022 21:13

Saturday and Sunday nights I had a mug of Horlicks and a banana then a squirt of This Works Deep Sleep spray on the pillows, switched of phone and didn't hear a thing until 7ish. Bananas before bedtime are beneficial as they produce magnesium which helps your muscles relax.
