Why as humans do we never ever learn? It’s always about testosterone and power and oil.

Fuck off with. Why was it possible for so many countries to pull together when COVID kicked off and now it’s back to slapping their balls on the table to see who has the biggest set.

It just all so unbelievably depressing.

@vickyc90

Honestly I supported the war on terror and had family fight, this nah. I can actually see Russia point on this to be honest, the Americans and NATO seem to be using them as a back door into Russia.
Are you Russian, by any chance? This is 100% the little man in the Kremlin's fault.
RedToothBrush · 20/02/2022 00:17

Dictators tend to act like... well dictators...because well... they are not very nice... and thats kinda the point.

Archersandlemonade · 20/02/2022 00:19

Absolutely agree with four chimneys - women need to rule amd then we would see sense and compassion - all we have now is threats of who has the biggest dick

Tilltheend99 · 20/02/2022 00:19

Hopefully it will blow over (in terms of world war) feel very sorry for the people of Ukraine though.

Everything Boris is saying things to hype it up is just an attempt to cling on to his job. The sooner he goes the better. If he was in charge during a real WW the whole country would be bankrupt by the end of it.

But you are BU in the sense that there are loads of Wars going on right at this moment and the people of those countries don’t have the luxury to go ‘hey fuck it!’

AlexaShutUp · 20/02/2022 00:23

I can't stand Putin but I don't think Biden or Boris are helping the situation either. I said to DH earlier that we would have far less of this sort of nonsense if more women were in power. His comment was that Kamala Harris doesn't seem to be doing anything to tone down Joe Biden. He has a point.

Surely a diplomatic solution would be possible if they worked hard enough. I actually think Boris quite relishes the idea of a conflict. It would distract from all his other woes and I think he quite fancies himself as a great wartime leader. Hmm

Kinsters · 20/02/2022 00:23

It's awful and just as we're starting to put the covid pandemic behind us there's more death and unrest on the way.

I would guess that the western reports are correct re russian forces/invasion plans - especially the part about them trying to make out Ukraine is the aggressor so they have an "excuse" for war. After the annexation of crimea I don't expect Putin thinks much will happen if he invades but hopefully he is having second thoughts. He's an awful man who need to go. We also need someone a damn sight more competent than BoJo to lead us through this.

Tilltheend99 · 20/02/2022 00:26

And a point about the pro-Kremlin peeps on here.

Putin has literally been poring money and energy into flooding social media with propaganda via the ‘opinions’ of bots in his bot farms. This is sadly why so many working class British people spout tripe about how great he is.

On news websites like The Guardian half the comments come from fake accounts with opinions that don’t even relate to the topic in the article.

Just Boris and Biden eh? Diplomatic resolution with Russia? Say you don't know anything about it without telling us.
ThatsNotMyGolem · 20/02/2022 00:30

Men. It's men.

SomePosters · 20/02/2022 00:36

The bbc stirring up fear and alarm… what are they trying to distract us from now?

AlexaShutUp · 20/02/2022 00:38

Fuck off with your patronising comments @Tabbacous. You might be buying into all the willy waving, but some of us would prefer a more grown up approach.

sarah13xx · 20/02/2022 00:41

I was just thinking this the other day. I really feel if this all kicks off we’re going to end up pulled into it too 🤦🏼‍♀️ We have Boris who doesn’t even know if he was at his own party representing us here, I’m so embarrassed that we’re stood behind him 😭

KloppsTeeth · 20/02/2022 00:45

100% agree. Ordinary people will suffer yet again, families seeing death and disaster, and for what? Absolutely nothing at the end of the day, except power, greed and money. Makes me sick.

Tabbacous · 20/02/2022 00:45

The irony of referring to a grown up approach when going on about willy waving. How about you grow up and read up on the situation- if you don't buy into countries coming together to support the Ukraine if things esculate than that's pretty sad. There is no diplomatic approach here as there hasn't been for the past few decades. And it's not just Boris and Biden, its the entirety of NATO and in fact most of the international community.

He is a dictator. They don't do diplomacy.

The whole point is you can't reason with a dictator if theyve decided they want to do something.

pollyglot · 20/02/2022 00:56

Youcan'ttourniquetthetaint "Putin's is a sad. flaccid little maggot" - you made my day!

IrishMama2015 · 20/02/2022 00:57

The irony of the British government wanting to support a small nation that's in danger of being invaded by its larger neighbour who wants to colonise them and wipe out their way of living......rolls eyes in Ireland 🇮🇪

What are the non willy-wavers proposing? Maybe take a casserole and ‘have a bit of a chat’ with his mum?

What patronising, embarrassing piffle this thread is.

Well im glad someone is saying it.

The trouble here is someone is lining up his tanks and has started a false flag operation.

Do you think he's really interested in talking, other than for the purposes of delaying the west from taking it seriously.

Look at hostorical precedence. Democracies never take the threats of aggressive dictators seriously. Why? Because war is too awful for them to contemplate because lots of their citizens will day.

And therein lies the rub. Dictators don't mind if lots of their citizens die if it gets the job done because humans are disposable.

Failure to understand this dynamic is where you get multiple countries invaded before Democracies get their head out of their arse and think 'hmm' can't ignore this any longer.

Tiddlesthecat · 20/02/2022 01:15

What I find shocking is how these men end up in power, the worst sort of human beings, then people are powerless to get rid of them. It comes back to the silent majority who become frozen to act. Although arguably not as bad, I would say that Boris is another example of an egotistical leader whom has no sense of shame and choses to ignore public criticism.

Rhannion · 20/02/2022 01:30

The Russia people like to be liked, they don’t want any wars either.

Rhannion · 20/02/2022 01:33

It’s like North Korea, lots of noise & men grandstanding but I honestly don’t think they will invade.

givethatbabyaname · 20/02/2022 01:43

I had been viewing this as sabre-rattling by Putin. He does it periodically. But I’ve been wondering why now, and I think it’s to do with Germany. Merkel would have pulled the EU, NATO and (if she’d been bothered, because I don’t think it would make much difference either way these days) the U.K. together in a single, unified force militarily, diplomatically, economically. That’s a lot for Russia to stand up to. Russia is getting close to China but there’s still a long way to go before that relationship is strong and secure. Russia would still be alone against all of the developed Western world and she needs to build her credentials if she’s looking at a partnership with China.

Schulz isn’t capable of doing a Merkel. Tbf to him he’s only had the job for two minutes, but this is the weakness. Germany gets 80% of its natural gas from Russia (not it’s only energy source though), and Russia wants to extend those pipelines throughout continental Europe to secure energy dependency. (The US is shipping natural gas over but there’s no way it can provide by sea the sheer volume required by Germany.) Russia has to pass through the Ukraine to do that. The Ukraine is merely in Russia’s way, and far from being a benevolent grandparent Russia sees the Ukraine as an annoying truanting teenager it needs to handle and train to do its bidding. Once through the Ukraine, it’s but a Russian hop, skip and jump into the EU heartland. Crimea was a foreshadowing of what Russia has planned (its access to sea trading, rather than energy in that case).

I think this could end up being more than sabre-rattling. Biden, Johnson, Schulz - they’re all weak, at home and internationally. Biden is the only one with any experience of high-level, international statesmanship - the man can’t get through a press conference on home territory without messing up. Macron had a go but c’mon, he’s young enough to have Putin for a dad and so naive I think he’s actually terrified of Putin as an individual. It’s a perfect storm for Putin. If he can’t win this thing now, with these muppets as his opponents….well, he’s going to look a tool going up to China, isn’t he? I have a horrible feeling he’s going to make a go of this.

Those poor people.

Justgivemewine · 20/02/2022 02:02

100% agree. utterly, painfully, pathetic.
This^^ Just so pathetic
TheresSomebodyAtTheDoorNeil · 20/02/2022 02:09

Depends on the woman........ Thatcher did her fair share of boob waving if I remember correctly.

Lets face it most politicians are narcissistic arseholes so whoever's running the show will wave whatever's to hand and won't stop until theyre satisfied the small chunk of land they're in charge of is suitably fucked up.
