Why as humans do we never ever learn? It’s always about testosterone and power and oil.

Fuck off with. Why was it possible for so many countries to pull together when COVID kicked off and now it’s back to slapping their balls on the table to see who has the biggest set.

It just all so unbelievably depressing.

OP posts:

Sadly Starwreck some do.

But yeah. That's why, whilst I realise it won't happen, it's a shame that the leaders can't just resolve tensions with a boxing match.

RaininSummer · 19/02/2022 23:38

Depressing. If only the old seventies line was a thing: what if they held a war and nobody came? What is the matter with these men?

BoredZelda · 19/02/2022 23:41

What’s worse is Republicans in the US hoping for Russia to start a war because it would be bad for Biden

CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/02/2022 23:42

What’s so unbelievably awful about this how absolutely pointless it is. It will achieve nothing for the human race or the planet as a whole. I feel disgusted that a single person who is just a transient meaningless little flash in the pan, if you consider the whole of history and the future, can have the potential to cause so much misery and destruction. Go, Putin - doing wonders to further the human race, bringing enlightenment, joy, world peace and meaningful collaboration amongst all nations. Not. Yay. Hmm

radioactive4 · 19/02/2022 23:44

@FourChimneys

Anyone else wish more women were in charge of the world? There would be far less willy waving for a start.

Oh yeh? Like Aung San Suu Kyi with the Rohingya people?

Hmm

Yeah, in amidst all my eye rolling at the men waving their willies I keep giggling inwardly at the mental image of Putin, Trump and Kim Jong Un all squaring up to each other in a ring. Maybe a sumo ring. It’s what they deserve.
Tealightsandd · 19/02/2022 23:45

How do wars happen. Often it's when diplomatic or more constructive solutions are sneered at and dismissed - allowing tensions to increase and hostilities to ramp up.

radioactive4 · 19/02/2022 23:47

@dangerrabbit

Military industrial complex.

Britain is largest exporter of weapons in the world and needs them to be used so they can sell more.

Erm... do you have a source for this because I'm pretty sure it's not 😂

Tealightsandd · 19/02/2022 23:48

Boxing would be a good way for them to release the pent up testosterone.

Mikeythecat · 19/02/2022 23:50

I think Johnson would really enjoy a war. He's obsessed with Churchill. He'd love the opportunity to stand behind our troops and take credit. He'd bloody relish in it. He'll have had speeches planned for years.

vickyc90 · 19/02/2022 23:51

Honestly I supported the war on terror and had family fight, this nah. I can actually see Russia point on this to be honest, the Americans and NATO seem to be using them as a back door into Russia.

Tealightsandd · 19/02/2022 23:51

Johnson did a Chamberlain when it came to SARS-COV-2. He's no Churchill.

Booklover3 · 19/02/2022 23:57

@YouCantTourniquetTheTaint

Yup, they're just dick swinging, trying to see who has the biggest chipolata, Putin thinks his is the biggest but its just a sad flaccid little maggot.

Women should be running the world, seriously. We absolutely should be. Men have had their chance and the world is a fucking mess, and as always women are left to clean it up. There would be no dick swinging, just solutions.

I agree. I’ve had enough of men and warmongering Willy waving shite.
DrDreReturns · 20/02/2022 00:01

The Russian economy is in a bad state so Putin needs a war as a distraction. Classic dictator tactics.

No, as @Tealightsandd says the tensions and conflicts in this area go back centuries. I think in Britain we are not used to having a land border and do not realise how continuous these border struggles are. The countries in this region have had to fight and fight again for survival: they chose to join the EU to re-establish a sovereignty that Russia took from them. I think they deserve support for that alone.

So the Ukraine wanting to choose it's future path not being what Putin wants is fair game to be invaded then?
Verbena17 · 20/02/2022 00:05

Don’t worry OP - NOTHING is what it seems Wink

ParsleySageRosemary · 20/02/2022 00:05

Ps I love the idea of the boxing ring too. It echoes the early medieval idea, that reacted against the earlier imperial power struggles, that leaders should be prepared to fight themselves.

RedToothBrush · 20/02/2022 00:07

Well thats Putin told.

Peace and love will happen tomorrow.

Will they ever learn? I think Putin has learn that the West is extremely likely to appease him. Again.

Thats kind of the trouble here.

Didioverstep · 20/02/2022 00:07

I feel like Johnson and Biden are pushing Russia. To the point where Russia may not have been planning anything, but now will say we'll they think we are, so we might as well do something. If that makes sense. I haven't been following too much though as it's only ever bad news on the news

CanIPleaseHaveOne · 20/02/2022 00:10

@NaiceHamAndHugs

Lots of countries did seem to be able to agree, perhaps not unite in one big smiling happily ever after, but communication actually seemed to be possible. Why does it ALWAYS come back to dropping bombs?
I think that only women should get a vote on going to war.

We give birth to the kids they send out to die so we should choose.

They should have to ask our permission.

ParsleySageRosemary · 20/02/2022 00:10

Do you not think the the border countries themselves have any agency here or anything to say about the matter??

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 20/02/2022 00:11

That news message seems to have intimidated or frightened people v. making them feel they're in a re-run of Wag the Dog .

CanIPleaseHaveOne · 20/02/2022 00:14

@TheHateIsNotGood

It is actually built up in the media to be more than it is - to distract us from our more pressing concerns closer to home (inflation, prices, 'impropriety', weather, etc,etc,etc..).

Rather miraculously, once there's a bit of positive 'Home News', Putin will be off doing his Putin-stuff much more quietly in our media's reporting.

I completely agree OP, just fuck off with this war shit.

I do not think it is a media conspiracy to distratct us from pressing concerns!

They have news teams over there, that costs money so they want reports from there. - good result

Boris? We are no long chatting about various parties in No.10 so he is thrilled skinny. - good result

Putin? Brought the worlds leaders to visit him, scares the crap out of everyone so has impressed the home team - good result.

In the meantime some fool may just do the wrong thing .....

DryOldCaper · 20/02/2022 00:16

Oh yeh? Like Aung San Suu Kyi with the Rohingya people?

Hmm

History it littered - literally since the dawn of time - of men waging war against each other, and you come up with one woman - and react (Hmm) as if it’s some sort of definitive, ‘mic drop’ counter-argument?
