Do you get jealous of people who go on cruises

Feeling very envious today. Friend is about to set off on a cruise for 14nights.

Cant stop thinking about it and them.

Can you put me off please?

Tell me some downsides of cruises.

@FlyingFlamingo

I was tempted, once. Then my parents went on one and told me that one evening there was a ‘patriotism party’. This involved singing Britannia Rules the Waves waving a union flag Envy (that really really isn’t envy)

No, just no

Ye gods! I'd have to leap over the side or I'd kill myself !
hiraffe · 19/02/2022 17:54

And finally The Kraken

😆

@Classica

I haven’t tried anal or a sub-dom relationship, that doesn’t mean I don’t have the ability to know that I wouldn’t do it if someone paid me.

Those are two of the activities offered by Royal Caribbean Cruises.

Cruising definitely isn’t for me. I can get seasick in the bath. My last venture onto the waves was a Brittany Ferries sailing to Brittany. I literally felt seasick within 5 minutes of leaving the harbour, and I threw up 10 minutes later. The sea was a bit choppy, but nothing serious. My body just can’t handle it.

Mirrorball2022 · 19/02/2022 17:57

@Sportslady44

what about all the good things though lol the entertainment, the being at sea, the different countries!!!
I can get a holiday with all those things without being in a boat in the sea!

@CrimbleCrumble1

I’m loving all the snobby comments from people who have never cruised.
I posted a negative comment (scary & tacky). I have been on a cruise (med, medium sized ship), it was both of those things.

I hate big ships and fear deep water. Scary.
I was young and many of the staff were leery and creepy. Scary.
It was glitzy and the entertainment was like upmarket butlins. Tacky
The food was fine but not outstanding.
The stops were short so you never really got the opportunity explore the area because you didn’t have enough time to get far enough away from the boat.
There was a sense of being hemmed in both in the small cabins and in the public areas even though it wasn’t a particularly crowded boat.

It’s just not for me and I wouldn’t do it again.

Recycledblonde · 19/02/2022 17:59

I love them, but then I've actually been on one. Smallish ship, max 900 people, never saw the same people twice, fabulous food, saw a lot more of the places we visited than if we'd gone there independently, local guides who knew the places and their history.
So far we've done a fjords one and a Danube river cruise and will be doing a Douro river cruise in June. Hopefully will do a Baltic cruise including St Petersburg next year if the Ukraine crisis is sorted.

I must admit I wouldn't want to do the huge cruise ships but then I haven't got kids who holiday with us and I have a nasty feeling I'd hate centre parks too but I've never been so can't be definite.
We have friends with young children and they love the big cruise ships as there's so much to do for the children.

Christ no! My idea of hell on earth!!!

sodabreadjam · 19/02/2022 18:00

We went on one - 7 days round the med. Doubt I would do it again. Think of the environment - this big mobile hotel is guzzling fuel 24/7 - and you need flights to get on it. Huge waste of food from all the 24 hour restaurants.

There is an underpaid underclass of staff who have to rely on tips - Philippinos on the ship we were on.

Overcrowded - you can't really get away from people and noise.

The tourists contribute little to the economy of the places where they dock - might buy a coffee, snack or souvenir.

It was quite tiring - we got up early every day to go on trips.

One benefit - we made visits to places we hadn't been to before. Half a day in Tunisia helped me to decide I wouldn't go there again.

“Hell on Earth. Wouldn’t go if you paid me”.

… hey, guess what? you’ve just won two free tickets for a 14 day cruise!!

“Oh my God!!! Most amazing Holiday Ever!!!”

Gilly12345 · 19/02/2022 18:00

Why are you jealous?

Save up for your own holiday adventure.

Oddbobbyboo · 19/02/2022 18:00

The 4 year old DD asking constantly “Are we there yet?” Fml 🤦‍♀️

Nah. Sell them
PolytheneRam · 19/02/2022 18:03

Absolutely not. I'm seasick

hiraffe · 19/02/2022 18:03

I've always wanted to do a fjords one as I'm not sure how else you could get that view

DaphneSprucesPippasClack · 19/02/2022 18:04

It's a Cramped crowded covid virus's dream....

AllOfUsAreDead · 19/02/2022 18:04

I'd be OK with it if it was a private cruise, or I could have everyone tested for any type of disease before they get on board. If they are ill even with a cold virus that hasn't fully started yet, tough you don't get on.

bearess1978 · 19/02/2022 18:05

@DramaAlpaca

I love cruises but no, I don't get jealous when I hear of someone going on one.
Same
OwlNoises101 · 19/02/2022 18:05

Nope.

Thelnebriati · 19/02/2022 18:05

I get so seasick that when I get off the ground is moving and I have trouble walking. You couldn't pay me to go on a cruise, it would be torture.

Christinatherabbit · 19/02/2022 18:05

What a coincidence I've literally just got back from a cruise (P&O Iona) My mum booked it for us as a wedding present and I thought all the above and was a bit freaked out until we actually went. Would never have considered it in a million years.
We absolutely loved every min and are thinking of booking another. Sorry we thought it was amazing 🤷‍♀️

Mayorhumdinger19 · 19/02/2022 18:06

Cruise in winter, two words, norovirus outbreak 💩💩💩

RoseMartha · 19/02/2022 18:06

No as does not appeal to me at all. I hate going on a boat or ship of any kind and will only do so out of necessity.

newbiename · 19/02/2022 18:07

Trapped on a floating germ factory.

Mirw · 19/02/2022 18:08

What is to jealous about? Go on a cruise if that is ehat you want, just don't bleat about your friend.
