BEETROOT

right i wasnt sure where to put this, but i think this thread is the most appropriate.
We have recently had a couple of scares with beetroot, first off my ds (8) went the toilet for a poo and started shouting me manically, the toilet looked like something from jaws, after a few minutes of severe panicking it emerged he has eaten beetroot at school, secondly my dad phoned me in a right old flap because he was weeing blood, again turned out he had eaten beetroot, the thing is, what if someone with heart problems or similar was unaware of the effects of beetroot this could cause catastophies, i really think there should be some sort of a warning on the jars, whgat do u think? am i being silly? or should i contact some manufacterors?

can't you get yellow beetroot these days?

08aGreatYearForCarmenere · 02/01/2008 12:54

I think it is general common knowledge that beetroot does this so I don't think that there should be warnings on jars.

Manufacturers of beetroot? The vegetable?

Misdee · 02/01/2008 12:55

YABU and really a bit silly.

sorry!

dooley1 · 02/01/2008 12:56

this is a joke right?

dooley1 · 02/01/2008 12:56

do you think beetroot only comes in jars?!!

TigerFeet · 02/01/2008 12:56

Warning on the jar would be an overreaction imo. There is so much info on food labels these days that it would probably get lost amongst the rest of the blurb anyway.

If someone was concerned then their health practitioner would soon put them straight.

Kewcumber - yes you can and jolly nice it is too

mrspnut · 02/01/2008 12:56

I definitely think you're being unreasonable. Should we all stop eating and drinking everything in case it affects our bodily functions?

At least beetroot is a fairly natural product. It could have been an overload of brightly coloured sweets that caused the disturbance.

pinetreedog · 02/01/2008 12:56

yes, we really should ban beetroot as soon as poss and make the world a better place

scatterbrain · 02/01/2008 12:57

Hmmmm - bit Loopy if you ask me ! Beetroot is pretty easy to avoid tbh - I haven't eaten it for about 20 yrs and am suffering no ill effects !

Warnings on jars sounds OTT - very American - like the warnings on McDonalds coffee and rear view mirrors imho ! Nany State strikes again !

loopylou6 · 02/01/2008 12:57

thanks for your replies, i havent heard of yellow beetroot lol? i know it sounds a bit daft, but the shcok we had was unbelievable

We grew some stripey beetroot this year...

Kewcumber · 02/01/2008 12:58

does it taste the same as red tiger? I Lurrve beetroot.

Iota · 02/01/2008 12:58

they should also out warnings on bananas and sweetcorn if they are to be eaten by weaning babies

scatterbrain · 02/01/2008 12:58

BTW - Beetroot is GROWN not MANUFACTURED !! It is a vegatable you know ?

Kewcumber · 02/01/2008 12:59

I don't think it can be that serious - I haven't seen any shocking stories of heart attacks induced by beetroot in the Daily Mail recently.

Iota · 02/01/2008 12:59

perhaps they could be genetically modified to have the warning going through them like a stick of rock

Kewcumber · 02/01/2008 12:59

and tinsel for cats...

smeeinit · 02/01/2008 12:59

please tell me this is a joke?
warnings on jars of beetroot?

WARNING eating beetroot can turn your piss purple!

YABTOTALLYU!

loopylou6 · 02/01/2008 13:00

yes scatter brain i am fully aware that beetroot is a vegatable, i am also fully aware it is grown, but it obviously has to be put into jars, this is what i meant when i said manufacterer

OP posts:
TellusMater · 02/01/2008 13:01
