right i wasnt sure where to put this, but i think this thread is the most appropriate.
We have recently had a couple of scares with beetroot, first off my ds (8) went the toilet for a poo and started shouting me manically, the toilet looked like something from jaws, after a few minutes of severe panicking it emerged he has eaten beetroot at school, secondly my dad phoned me in a right old flap because he was weeing blood, again turned out he had eaten beetroot, the thing is, what if someone with heart problems or similar was unaware of the effects of beetroot this could cause catastophies, i really think there should be some sort of a warning on the jars, whgat do u think? am i being silly? or should i contact some manufacterors?

I demand that the asparagus growers and retailers of the UK warn people that eating their product can make your pee smell funny.

And only for a minority of people too. I'm being opressed by stinky wee.

Do you think I can report someone for not warning my dd that sitting on her foot can cause pins and needles...she raised merry hell when that happened the firt time.

And who should I contact to get a General Warnin issues about the danger of gravity? Dangerous stuff gravity.

Sheesh , what next? Warnings on packets of nuts that they may contain nuts? Oh sorry, we already have those.

loopylou6 · 02/01/2008 13:49

ohhh dear, look at the end of the day i had the best possible intentions, i was trying to save other people the horrible moments i had - sorry if that is funny

fizzbuzz - and I bet they find it just as funny as we did! Don't get narked Loopy, pisstaking is a time-honoured MN tradition.

suedonim · 02/01/2008 14:12

Something similar happened to me but now I'm laughing about it because it's funny. I went to the loo in the Louvre (haha!) recently, and not just for a wee . When I...ahem...finished, there seemed to be rather a lot of blood. As I've had amoebic dysentry a few times recently (I live in the tropics) I was a bit concerned, but then it dawned on me that the entire place was bathed in an eerie glow and I figured out it was lit by some sort of UV lighting. So (TMI alert) I found my penlight and carried out an inspection, whereupon I discovered that things were as they should be and indeed it was the weirdy lighting. And are there warnings about that in the Louvre? Of course there aren't! It's all part of life's rich tapestry.

fizzbuzz · 02/01/2008 14:15

Yes, they were laughing....but it IS a shock if you don't know about it.

Dd age 18 months loves beetroot. Often have very pink nappies

Kewcumber · 02/01/2008 14:18

I love the idea that you carry a torch around to inspect your poo, suedonim. Are you Gillian McKeith?

Can we get warnings on peanuts too, that if they don't get chewed sufficently you will have painful poos

Sorry, I see your point loopy, it isn't something you would've expected.

hifi · 02/01/2008 14:39

i have exactly the same feeling about sugar puffs making your wee smell, definately a warning!

MrsCarrot · 02/01/2008 14:45

I eat tons of beetroot and am always making soup but I have never noticed any red emissions. I will look out for it, so Loopyloo, you have enlightend me.

loopylou6 · 02/01/2008 14:49

VictorianSqualor · 02/01/2008 15:15

quick loopy, start a thread on parent and toddler parking spaces - it'll take the heat of this one!

kittylouise · 02/01/2008 15:48

This thread has made me laugh.

Knew about the beetroot wee effect, but didn't know anything about asparagus. Does it really make your wee smell funny - what of? I have never noticed (mind you, don't tend to skulk around toilets sniffing my own wee to see what the day's aroma is).

Please enlighten

loopylou6 · 02/01/2008 15:49

lolol HC think i should just zip it from now on - every thread i start i end up getting in trouble, i must be a weirdo hehe
